Chapter 324

He came to a few minutes later, still soaring through the sky. The air had become unbelievably cold, and frost had formed on his armor, and weapon. Luckily he had maintained a tight grip on Mjolnir, or else the weapon would have been lost. However, he was miles up in the air, and he had no way to escape from his predicament. A skill notification blossomed in his vision, and he quickly read it, realizing that he had some time before he came back down again.

Sam closed the notification and felt a profound sense of pride rise up within himself, bubbling like a well of lava. He had done something that nobody had ever done before, and it was all thanks to his own power and drive to succeed. He would only grow more powerful as time went on, as his Daos began to assert himself more effectively. He had two Fragments now. What would he possess at the end of F Rank?

His pride in himself was all well and good, but he still had a multi mile fall to deal with, and he was currently at the mercy of whatever ranged weapons the enemy could level at him. He could sense a stirring in the Dao of the universe around him as one of the ships above charged up another lance of pure power, no doubt aiming it directly at him.

With his two Dao Fragments, his senses had skyrocketed, and he could now detect the strains of the Dao in the world around him, similar to how he found his destination while teleporting. It seemed that he had gone from being a mere nuisance to being a tactical weakness in the accounts of the warring factions. Sam only smiled at this. He was used to danger and this kind of danger would no doubt lead to his strength skyrocketing at the end.

He flipped, getting into a vertical position, and prepared for landing, propelling himself downwards with a stream of Dao energy coming from his hands. He needed to avoid the airstrike coming from above, as even with all of his strength, that thing would atomize him in an instant if it struck him.

The sky above him started to glow blue as the ship readied its cannon. A moment later, there was a dull roar as the strike tore through the air above him, heading for his upper body. Sam teleported out of the way at that last moment, but he was clipped by the strike this time, and it tore out an entire chunk of his right arm, causing him to let out a cry of pain. As he tumbled, his momentum in disarray from the cannon, another ship began to fire, sending its own deadly payload towards him.

Sam gritted his teeth and used his healing skill, repairing the lost chunk of flesh at the cost of a large portion of his elemental energy. As he watched the encroaching beam of death heading his way, he only smiled, sending himself zigzagging away with the use of his teleportation skill. His Dao stores recovered at an insanely fast rate, far more than that of his mana or elemental energy. It was likely an unspoken benefit of his Dao heritage, and he was sure that what he was doing would be impossible for most people.

Sam flitted across the sky, gradually losing altitude as he did so, heading for safety. If he managed to lose himself in the enemy ranks once more, then he would be in no more danger from the airstrikes, as the commanders of the armies, or whoever was sending the beams of light after him, would be unable to detect him, and even if they did, they would have to weigh the benefits of killing him over wiping out tens of thousands of their own troops.

In the far distance, a different light blossomed, one that was a deep red in color. It formed on top of the fish man city, and it seemed to wink in the dull light of the sun as it blossomed into being. A moment later, a ball of power streaked across the sky towards Sam, heading at speeds beyond anything he had seen before. However, seeing as it was coming from tens of miles away, it gave him enough time to react.

The ball was easily a few hundred feet across, and as a result he would be unable to teleport out of the way in time if it neared him. However he had no intention of letting it do so, and he accelerated his descent even more with streams of his Dao and elemental energy, propelling him towards the ground at hundreds of miles per hour.

However, the ball of light seemed to have a minor tracking function, and it changed trajectory to head towards him. Well, if he was going to be targeted like this, he reasoned, it would be better to make it have the greatest impact he could.

As he neared the ground, Sam teleported the last few feet, landing in a sprint. He raced towards the nearest concentration of enemy soldiers, his feet beating the ground beneath him into a spray of vaporized earth. He lashed like a streak of silvery light across the ground, the various light sources of the battlefield illuminating him as he ran.

There was a large concentration of the fish like alien fighters near him heading out from the city and into the battle. As he neared, their faces turned into masks of horror as they saw the massive ball of glimmering death behind him. Sam laughed out loud and leaped the rest of the distance, his speed sending him dozens of feet into the air.
