Chapter 41.2: Healing (part 2)

Zur entered the healer-pod, and reached out. Yet none responded.

Zur felt around, is there something here? and she felt and she found one.

Or what used to be one. A body, two bodies, a couple more. Zur felt some fear she knew not what killed them but there was no living healer here. She left the over pod and stopped. Maybe the healer's pod could be used? Maybe the healer's pod could be used by Uxim. But without a healer, Uxim would not last.

She knew not what killed the healers and the others. So first she returned to Fei.

----------------------------------------

Zur returned to Fei and something had upset her.

He reached out further and inquired.

The healers were dead, others in their pod were dead, and she knew not the cause. If there was a guarantee of safety, she could maybe make use of the healer's pod.

He interrupted her there.

And leave the hive with no healers? Was she injured, did she absorb something that caused her harm? Was there a resting healer for this case? He inquired, again.

Zur does not know, and he felt her worry.

Well, this would be a role for others that dealt with death. But it was not the place for her to be. Where should he guide her next?

To either He Who Transfers Memories or They Who Remember War. One of them has to know.

And they could check the other guides as well. They might know of the location of other healers.

So he leads her on her way.

----------------------------------------

He Who Duplicates Memories had a break. Not that it didn't take anything for him to store the memories of the injured young, but the most difficult memories had to be stored by Uxim. No one else could interpret them, and providing shards that would be returned later was not very taxing.

And with that thought the rest of the young arrived, followed by He Who Nurtures.

And He Who Nurtures wanted access to the stored memories, and it was still his place to be the one facing out. So he had to spend his time and attention looking after the young so that they wouldn't overwrite or mess up valuable memories when exploring the thoughts of others. And he knew his interactions would shape their development and who they became in the early stages, so he had to be careful not to communicate too deeply when doing so.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

And that wasn't even including limiting the involvement of They Who Remember The Dead. It is good to teach the young of past roles, but you must not involve yourself so...

He was not having a nice time.

----------------------------------------

He Who Nurtures saw the lost young one. And if one could be lost there could be others. It was their role, his role to take care of them, and yet others were lost. This could not be, He reached to the one that just entered the pod and thought:

They Who Remember War have been running the hive recently?

The other affirmed this thought.

So they needed to see this.

The other, it thought of itself as Zur affirmed this. And he reached for the injured one so they could continue...

She interrupted his thought.

We could not take Uxim, he was injured, He Could Die for this!

This needed to be resolved. And his injuries could not be resolved, he could not live without a pod. So he would come along.

But they would fly as the guide Fei showed them. And it would be given a pseudo-pod of shards so it could...

He interrupted that, do as Zur would. I shall confirm the young safety and I shall bring that one this way.

----------------------------------------

They remember war, they prepare for war, they keep the hive safe in times of war. all this because they know what will happen what can be lost. And they have been reminded of all that again by They Who Remember The Dead.

Why should they care for a few lost childeren?

And Zur responded, they should communicate with the child, and as He Who Explores Consequence felt for Uxim, he reached and retracted. Its thoughts were like that of the enemy. It could hardly be seen as part of the hive. And it took injuries within this area of saftey? Could that happen to scouts it was an immense oversight...

But the thoughts were that of an enemy. Zur echoed. What use was protecting the hive if we were not growing it.

But we were other young existed and with resources from the enemy existing members could do so much more.

But what if the existing member were lost...

Again an interruption, this one from He Who Nurtures.

The young are needed.

But why? They inquired. They could be delayed, and the use of resources...

They thought again, a disturbance within them. The young were what we protect. we are the hive, and the young are our future. If we don't die what need have we for many young.

The thoughts of Uxim were communicated further. They pulled back, ENEMY. But this is of uf. What are we creating? What if the living were injured or altered so. We needed to prevent the creation of the young if this is the case we must delay it.

But they did not agree and in all those thoughts communications echoed, He Who Nurtures waited, but Zur and Uxim were involved further, and through all those thoughts Uxim picked up an echo, a line it could understand continuing echoing and repeating through the others.

So he reached to as many as possible and Inquired, What of the missing roles?

And there was silence, as Zur shared memory, a fear, a place of healing. Unmoving.
