Chapter 98

Chapter 98

Complicated feelings rose up in her, but she didn’t want to dwell on them. If she did, she’d only get depressed.

Eager to distract herself she began moving around and observing the remaining vegetation.

Some hardy trees were scorched by the fire but otherwise still alive. While some on the other hand were completely engulfed by the fire, very much dead.

Why? There wasn’t much sense to this. There was not a drop that fell from the sky that could even begin to explain this.

She was here, in this very forest when water started magically appearing from every surface but she very clearly remembered looking up and seeing no clouds in the sky.

Where did the water come from?

It was almost like… almost like when in the very early mornings water beaded itself on the grass and plants. They made the plants very refreshing to eat.

Except it wasn’t at all early in the morning. Asleep and drowsy she may have been but she knew when she woke up and looked up that it was late in the day.

As she was contemplating where the water actually came from she continued to look around when she stopped and looked at a tree she was passing by more closely.

She knew some trees had patches of rocky looking plants on them. She remembered them quite clearly because her mother warned her and her siblings that while they could nibble on this stuff it shouldn’t be what we primarily what we ate. She remembered trying some but it was pretty gross so she spit it out.

What was interesting about this one was that it had a white root digging into the ground. None of the ones she remembered growing up had something like that…

Suddenly clarity hit her fast and quick-like, the white root look exactly like the ones that poked out from the ground and had the stink of the flowers.

She went back to look at the white things again just to check if they looked the same.

They did.
