Chapter 157
If elder could ignore the pun then so could I, repressed memories for the win.
Which is not something my therapist would approve of but hey! She ain’t here!
Elder explained the mechanics on how the nodule was made but thinking on it, it very decidedly stuck to that specific knowledge. And not once did it explain how it actually worked. I, being an idiot, hadn’t realized it until just now.
I’m dumb.
Apparently the translation nodule works by having it interpret the information it receives and renders it into this emotional type language that it then sends back to the user. Inversely when information is being sent from the user into the nodule and then out to another it translates it back into whatever language the other uses.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Which was … well I was gunna say a dumb way to invent something, I mean why couldn’t you just translate the words your sent back into your own language, but then I realized you might miss something vital.
Even back home translations were never perfect there was always something missing, something that was changed or just plain missing. No two languages had the same exact word after all. Sometimes the other language just plain ole lacked the proper cultural context that was integral to the original language.
This nodule circumvented that entirely, you get the other’s meaning, in the truest and literalist sense.
Sometimes even more than what the other intended.
Like elder’s other two emotions.
It felt stressed, cautious and sorrowful.
I was responsible for it feeling cautious which was something I’ll have to deal with eventually but it also felt stressed and sorrowful.
I only got a bit of why but from what I did get I knew it did something impulsive and it regretted it. And it was feeling stressed out on how to undo it.
Also whereas it’s cautiousness felt connected to me it’s other two emotions felt somewhat disconnected from me.
Meaning I wasn’t responsible for that which was honestly a relief.
