Chapter 116
I wait. And I wait. And I wait some more.
I was just about to reach my breaking point and speak up when Elder responds and says, “Before I answer that question can you answer one of mine?”
From what i can tell from its tone or whatever im getting the distinct impression it’s wary. Which is weird as hell, what’s it got to be afraid about?
However I won’t find out nothing without responding so I do.
“Alright that’s fine.”
“The fire that decimated this forest, were you responsible for extinguishing it?”
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Oh shit it said it was keeping track of my actions, but in all the excitement that particular detail must have slipped my mind. Honestly a bit stalker-ish for my tastes but different species different customs I guess.
“Yeah that was me. Why?”
I had a feeling that it was confirming something for itself, but I can’t for shit figure out what that is.
“You must understand, when I told you that I have come across your kind before I was not misleading you. In all my time I have been alive I have personally come across five members of your specific species. And each time I have, multiple members of my colony were killed. Your kind seem to have a penchant for sapping and decimating the habitat around you in order to feed yourselves and grow rapidly larger. So coming across one such as you doing the complete opposite of what your kind typically do is quite unusual. Why are you so different?”
Woah fuck me, forget the age question—although I still very much wanted to know—five others exactly like me but… each one killing its environment in order to grow larger and bigger?
Fuck.
No wonder it was threatening me when it first contacted me. I would have done the same damn thing.
… still being on the receiving end of a death threat in an unknown world all alone by myself? I’m still just the tiniest bit pissed about it. In fact thinking about it I’m even tempted into being petty about this and do what elder did and stay quiet for a long time and not answer its question but a question of my own hits me and I can’t help but ask it something.
“Hold on you’ve come across five of my species, did you ever speak to them like we are right now?”
