Chapter 65
Done.
I was finished measuring the fire. The son of a bitch was long. Probably because I served as an effective blockade for the fire, which only made it flare outwards.
It’s gunna be a pain to expand into such a large enough size to contain the fire but at least I had an idea of its size now. I was only a quarter of the way through growing on a sufficient number of trees but I did find another colony of lichen. Which was really promising, if this pattern continued I doubt I would have to fear going without nutrients. Things were looking great!
Which kind of made me scared.

This was when shit hit the fan in all the shows I’ve watched. You know the plan is going according to plan and then wham! Something unexpected happens and messes it all up.
Or maybe even just a small part of the plan goes awry but it has such significance that even if they do succeed its essentially a Pyrrhic victory.
Oh… oh god. Which I mean fuck hi… not the point right now!
Buttons!
In all this planning, growing, cannibalizing and protecting I failed to consider its safety. I haven’t even started to grow a… a… Mycelium carapace! Its not actually carapace obviously but the name is catchy. I like it.
Anyways, mycelium carapace, I need it on buttons like yesterday.
This is exactly the type of thing the main protagonist fails to remember but then its too late and they feel like shit afterwards even if they did win at the end.
And its the kind of thing thats so quick to do too. Buttons is very small barely any bigger than a toddler. It was done before I even realized it.
Im so glad I remembered. Something like this would definitely gut me. Metaphorically obviously.
Now I just had to grow on the rest of these trees and their surrounding areas and project fuck fire 2.0 will be a success
