Chapter 93

Chapter 93

She took a closer look at the white things and found that they did indeed not smell anymore. She was expecting the taste of the air around her to be disgusting but she barely got anything from them.

She didn’t know what to make of this. She would have assumed they were just smaller versions of the flowers she memorized but these don’t even remotely look the same.

She stood there dumbfounded before realizing that it was just another weird part of what made this forest so strange.

With the smell gone however it occurred to her that she was free to take in a deep breath with her nose. She did so but immediately regretted it.

She nearly hacked up her lungs at the awful smell.

Free from the stink of the plant it was but what it wasn’t free from was the smell of burnt vegetation.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

She breathed shallowly and through her mouth on her way here so the smell barely registered but it never occur to her that this close to where the fire made itself known, the smell would be just the tiniest bit overwhelming.

Even now looking a bit closer at her surroundings she could tell that some of the plants and trees were a bit scorched. Some even look wilted.

She should have realized sooner.

She shook her head a bit and began breathing through her mouth once more. She wanted to see where she collapsed so she put her recriminations aside and started to follow the white things. She remembered in her flight away that she kept coming across the white things so it stood to reason that backtracking would allow her to end up somewhere back where she started.

As she followed them it finally registered that the white things were arranged in a straight line. Nothing in all her experience grew like that.

Just another weird thing she supposed.

She felt uneasy about this whole forest but continued moving forward anyway. She wanted to know what would have happened had she stayed. The answer seemed obvious but she wanted to know for certain.

She studied her surroundings as she continued. She was a little out of it when she collapsed but at least some of the forest registered with her because soon enough she recognized a very memorable tree. Charred as it was it was a miracle she recognized it at all but she did.

She looked around some more and felt her heart sink.

Yeah… she definitely would have died had she stayed.
