Chapter 115
I hesitate to answer the mushroom’s question.
Surely telling Guardian the various ages of its kind I have come across will inevitably lead it to asking me how I obtained that information. And If the young mushroom was upset at the mere suggestion of me destroying it, then telling it that I systematically killed and digested every single devouring mushroom i came across to get detailed information such as their age and basic composition it would make guardian at the very least uncomfortable and at the most enrage it.

And if this young mushroom does get upset it might very well rampage and destroy what is left of my colony and after the devastation wrought by the fire I do not wish any more death upon us.
I do not desire to bring it to an end however. This one has shown great intelligence and more importantly kindness towards its surroundings. None of the others I have come across in all my time have shown any compassion towards the other inhabitants of the forest.
For this reason I do not wish to deceive Guardian, but I must tread carefully.
I come to a decision when I realize Guardian has yet to disturb my thoughts without interruption like last time. Even this I find astounding.
Which only reinforces how I wish to answer its question.
“Before I answer that question will you answer one of mine?”
