Chapter 89
I end up finding 10 more lichen colonies. It was a pain finding them but I got through it.
Since I found more colonies I decided to take tiny bits of mycelium from each colony. I combined the nutrients and then used them to grow just one proto-lichen mushroom. Unlike with my first batch where I divided the nutrients between multiple mushrooms I wanted this mushroom to already have a chunk of algae already built in. That way I actually might get some productivity out of them.
Originally with the first batch I just wanted the algae cells to grow and multiply themselves and wait it out but quiet frankly I greatly overestimated my ability to keep patient. They definitely provide nutrients but at such abysmal rates that they might as well not give anything at all.

The thought of cannibalizing the first batch and concentrating all the algae into one mushroom was extremely tempting.
They’re not completely useless though. They do function as a daylight sensor. But since I’m already connected to multiple lichen colonies that really isn’t saying much.
… hmm. The more I thought about it the more I wanted to say fuck it and just do it but … I don’t know.
After mulling it over I choose to just be done with it cannibalize all of them save one.
I wanna see how long the algae take to completely cover that mushroom.
That decided, I checked in on the progress on my fix-the-damned-burnt-clearing project. And while the name was shit the project was going pretty well. I resolved to first spread a bit further before I acted as a nutrient delivery boy for all the little asshole baby flora still left within the clearing and around the perimeter.
Once I reached most if not all of the crispy areas I would connect to all the plants, trees and shrubs and I will usher in a growth period like no other!
