Chapter 173: He Took My Husband!

“…” Rena still refused to respond.

Kazuya stared at her coldly, threatening her for an answer. The temperature dropped significantly as silence engulfed the room. Lilica felt a little scared and tried to calm him down.

She put her hands on his hand to make him retract his cold gaze from Rena. She didn’t like this cold side of his at all. It felt like the man she loved was replaced with a cold devil.

“Rena, tell us you didn’t do this.” Lilica looked hopefully at Rena. During the time she was preparing for the wedding, she had gotten closer to Rena and considered her as a close friend. She also didn’t want to believe that Rena was one of the spies. It’s impossible that the enemy had planted a spy so close to them!

“Lilica…” Rena uttered, feeling heartbroken when she saw Lilica’s eyes that were filled with trust.

Lilica looked at Rena with hope that they were just thinking too much.

“I… I’m sorry…” Rena apologized as she looked down to the floor to hide from Lilica’s trusting gaze. It made her feel guilty.

“Don’t tell me…” Lilica couldn’t bear to finish her sentence as she felt her heart shaken.

“It was me… All along it was me who had informed them… I’m sorry… They… That man…” Rena said as she gradually lost control of her emotions. Her limbs gave out and she flopped down to the floor.

The couple looked at Rena with eyes filled with disbelief.

“That man… He… *whimpers* …He took my husband hostage… *sob*” Rena broke down as tears ran down her pretty eyes.

“…What do you know about that guy?” Kazuya asked. He was sure that the man Rena was talking about was surely the one behind everything.

“I… I was given the list of all spies once. I still have the list in my phone…” Rena said as she took out her phone. She then handed it to Kazuya.

Kazuya took the phone as he looked at the screen. It was a document that was filled with names.

“He had given me the list so that I could make use of the spies to harm the royal family.” Rena continued.

However, Kazuya was a little confused. There weren’t any attacks during the time they had prepared for the wedding.

“Did you help prevent some of the plans?” Lilica asked. The same thing was on her mind.

“…Yes. I’m sorry I couldn’t prevent all of it. If I did, then my husband’s life would have been at stake.” Rena replied as she felt guilty.

“Can you tell me… whose body was in the dungeon that night?” Lilica asked with a serious face. The fact that Rena was helping them behind the scenes had made her feel that the possibility of Lacey being alive was high.

Kazuya turned to look at Lilica with a confused look. What did she mean? Wasn’t that Lacey’s body? Indeed, the body had been chopped up beyond recognition. But there was no one else near the cell. It was impossible that it was someone else.

“… It was one of the female spies that had a similar figure to Lacey.” Rena replied. She then continued, “I swapped Lacey and the spy secretly. The guard that was sent to kill Lacey didn’t know what lacey looked like. He just knew that it was a female spy that he had to killed. I then had Lacey put on a disguise and join me in helping behind the scenes.”

“As I thought!” Lilica exclaimed.

Kazuya was shocked. Such a thing was possible? Kazuya looked at Lilica questioningly. What did you mean by ‘as I thought’?

Lilica noticed Kazuya’s questioning gaze and then forgot about the fact that she hadn’t told him about the person behind the door that she had met with on their wedding night. She was too busy being drowned in his love that it completely slipped her mind.

“On our wedding night, a woman told me over the door that there were some spies among the maids that were supposed to dress me. She told me that she had already gotten rid of those maids and that it was the most she could do for us. At that point, I already had a hunch that it was Lacey. I just couldn’t figure out how she had suddenly appeared even though she should’ve died.” Lilica explained.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me about this?” Kazuya asked with a frown. If she had told him about this beforehand, then he wouldn’t have felt so surprised now.

“Hehe~ It completely slipped my mind.” Lilica replied cutely as she looked at Kazuya with her adorable eyes.

Kazuya saw her adorable face and sighed helplessly. He couldn’t win her no matter what.

“Make sure there’s no next time. Be sure to tell me everything from now on. It might be crucial for our investigation.” Kazuya lightly reprimanded her as he pinched her soft cheeks lightly.
