Chapter 156: Was She Playing Favorites?

On the other side of the palace

Kazuya had woken up from the butlers’ knocking, feeling a sharp pain in his head.

‘Damn it!’ Kazuya cursed, feeling resentful that the guys had given him so much alcohol to drink. He was feeling a constant throbbing pain, cursing the guys inwardly.

“Come in.” Kazuya answered the door in a bad mood.

Sensing that the prince was in a bad mood, the servants felt a little frightful. The head butler politely said, “Second Prince, we are here to help you get ready for the wedding.”

Hearing that his wedding was today, Kazuya’s mood brightened up instantly as he got up from the bed. He then followed the butler to the bathroom, to complete all the traditions.

Kazuya dipped into the pinkish pool diluted with Lilica’s blood. He felt that using her blood like this was too wasteful as he took in the scent of her blood. Just the scent of her blood was enough to arouse him, making him miss Lilica even more. He didn’t stay in the pool for too long since he was sure that he would be completely in the mood for it if he stayed there any longer.

After the bath came the massaging. Coincidentally, Lilica had also chosen roses for him since she felt like roses went well with his image. Kazuya revealed his charming smile at the thought how they were like-minded as he let the servants massage him. However, remembering that Lilica had ordered him not to show his smile to anyone, Kazuya quickly went back to his usual cold face before anyone could catch a glimpse of his smile.

Kazuya went to the fitting room after the massage. His wedding suit wasn’t all that special except the fact that he had to wear some emblems since he was the prince. He had also left his costume to his mother, so he didn’t know what he was going to wear.

The butler came into the room with Kazuya’s suit. It was a pale blue suit made from high quality fabric. The design was quite simple, with some diamonds embedded here and there. In fact, it was really simple. It even looked a little plain, making Kazuya wonder if his mother really had any fashion sense. Why was his wedding suit so plain compared to the suit from Kazuki’s wedding? Was his mother playing favorites? He was started to get worried about Lilica’s gown.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Unknown to him, his mother was taking a little revenge on him for the countless times that Kazuya had blocked her away from Lilica. How dare he prevent the queen from bonding with her daughter-to-be?

Although the suit was a little plain, paired with the emblems that Kazuya had to wear, it surprisingly made the overall look balanced, not too much, not too plain. This made Kazuya start believing in his mother’s tastes once again. Maybe his mother had some fashion sense after all.

As the butlers were dressing him up, someone came into the room. It was the king.

“Father.” Kazuya greeted him politely.

“You know I’ve been trying to convince those old ministers for a long time, but it seems that they still couldn’t accept her. It would seem like she needs to accomplish something for them to be able to trust her.” The king sighed helplessly. Sometimes, those old ministers were too stubborn.

“I understand, Father. I have an idea on how to make them accept her. Lilica’s father, Mr. Stell, had agreed to join in the hunt for the enemy. If her father manages to accomplish something from this mission, they will naturally start feeling that the daughter of an accomplished family, Lilica, is worthy enough to marry into the royal family.” Kazuya explained his plan.

The king then remembered something and gestured for all the servants to exit the room.

“There have been more clues from the investigation team. Although our enemy is a demon, he is working in a human organization. This organization consists of over 500 spies, 1000 researchers, and many more. There’s about 2000 members in total and it seems like the number is still growing. One third of the members are demons while the rest are humans. Some members that were caught had no idea what they were doing. It seems like it was just a high paying job so many researchers joined their organization without knowing the motive behind it. All members are given numbers as code names. Members that died would be replaced by another quickly, inheriting the code name.” The king gave a brief update on the report.

“Father, I don’t think that that man would actually work for the organization. The way he had talked seemed arrogant, so I thought he was the leader.” Kazuya voiced his opinion. From what he had heard from Ken, Lacey also said that the leader was a demon.

“That is right. The organization was a human organization in name only. They do have a human leader, but I did research on him and found that he was just acting on behalf of someone to make the humans work for them. It seems like the real leader is a demon, although we still couldn’t find any information on who he is. I’ve already talked about this with your grandfather. He’ll be attending your wedding today so after the wedding, I’ll take him to see the magic trace for more clues.” The king replied seriously.

“Today’s your wedding! Don’t think too much of the serious stuff! Just enjoy today and leave the rest to us.” The king continued in a fatherly tone before exiting the room, allowing the servants back in.
