Chapter 63: Why Wait!?
(Marinkia’s POV)
My oh so lovely daughter had an amazing idea. Rather than just kill the undead that cross our path, why not just go out of our way to kill them all? How would we do this? Loud… fucking… noises, in a dark area.
Ava: “How much Credits did this cost?” She asked with a curious tone.
Marinkia: “Not that many, don’t worry.” I answer.
That was a blatant lie, though. It’s not like sounding up a sound system this damn advanced is cheap. It wasn’t at all. In fact, I had just spent easily over 300,000 Credits. Not to mention, the price for the songs were high, too.
Stupid fair new world… They assumed that such a product would only be used by a business. As such, to play any song, you would have to license it. Even during the era of Grant, artists and creatives were almost always screwed over.
With practically never ending lives, Numens highly value creative people. It wasn’t like all of us were creative, either. This meant that making sure no creative person was shafted was a high priority to us. In our society, they get paid a fuck ton of Credits for their works.
This gives most a problem, though. As art is highly respected, the quality of it must be at a high level. Luckily, with infinite time, and basically infinite money, most creatives are easily up to the task. Don’t even get me started on copyright laws… That is to say, they actually work now.
Man… I am getting sidetracked so damn often these days. I wonder why? Eh, I’ll figure that out in the next ten years or so. For now, I shall enjoy the soon to start undead slaughter of the ages!
Marinkia: “Please do the honors.” I say with a smile.
Ava: “Okay! Will these earplugs actually work?” She asked with a nervous tone.
Marinkia: “They’re working right now. They only allow permitted voices to reach your ears. Anything else is blocked completely.” I answer, kicking a hole in the wall that neither of us actually heard.
Ava: “So cool!” She happily exclaimed.
This tech isn’t foolproof, mind you. Which is why I chose songs in a different language other than English. With that precaution, no music should be heard by us. With a childlike smile on her face, Ava started the music.
Rumble!
Marinkia: “…”
Ava: “…”
Maybe starting it at 100% volume was a bad idea? The entire building shook, almost threatening to collapse onto us. I am sure that it will hold up, though. The entire place vibrating was weird, if I am being honest. It was like I was in a giant massage chair…
The district where Paradise is located in, was completely void of undead. Killing them all was too much of a hassle, and Krul didn’t expect the glowing eye zombies to be a future problem. So she just let most of them go.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
This is where I uh… kinda fucked up? Well, it wasn’t that big of a deal. But Ava might have some difficulty fighting off the more special undead. Why would they show up? The music… judging from what my PC says, it can be heard for countless miles. And the undead have good hearing. Oops?…
Days Later.
The music never stopped, and nor did the undead. Early into the siege, many glowing eye zombies showed up. But with their more than average intelligence for a zombie, they stopped coming here. Just a day in, and we had to move the music to the outside.
Inside of the building were countless bodies, and the place was starting to fall apart. This was fine, as the zombies would show up even in the day. Of course, there were way less of them in the day. That is, if you count a few thousand less being a low amount of rotting shambling corpses…
Ava: “Mom… I am so tired.” She said with a yawn after killing yet another undead.
Marinkia: “Hey, this is your plan. So you have to carry it out until the end, dear daughter of mine.” I reply with a laugh.
Ava: “But it stopped being fun yesterday! Even the special zombies were beyond boring…” She said with a pout.
Marinkia: “Just hold on for a while longer, Ava.” I console with a kiss on her head.
Killing so many undead, which by now probably numbered in the hundreds of thousands, it was impossible to not get bloody. Through our blood covered selves, you could hardly recognize us at all. This is probably the bloodiest that I have ever been. And I have been eaten alive before, needing to kill a monster from within them…
But we must push on. The music clearly was heard by even our kind. Krul contacted me a day in, and I informed her of Ava’s wonderful plan. Krul, being the good mother that she is, helped with rounding up every undead that she and her private military could find, and funneling them to us.
I was told that Ava and I would be rewarded greatly for this effort. It wasn’t like Krul and Clare didn’t give me a lot of allowance, they very much did. Though, one of the rewards is a pension that will last forever. How much? 20,000,000 Credits per year…
As such, we have to finish this plan! If for no reason other than us activating an infinite money cheat IRL. Also, I am paying so much damn money to have these songs played over and over again…
A Month Later.
The abandoned city was covered in bodies as far as the eye could see. And we Numens could see for miles and miles… In the end, Krul estimated that Ava and I had killed over 100,000,000 undead. This was amazing, as it was very close to what Anna estimated the remaining number of undead to be.
Ava’s spur of the moment plan had helped us out greatly. Not just in the far future, but in this current war as well. Anna, with the rarity of the special undead with glowing eyes, says that there can’t be more than a few hundred of them remaining.
Rather than a war, this is more of a cleanup by this point… Currently, I was carrying my daughter away from the city. Enhanced sense is one of the traits of our kind. Due to this, the city was a nightmare to be in. Let alone fight for over a month in…
Luckily, those bodies can be used for fertilizer. So basically, Ava and I just made the world’s biggest human body fertilizer storage city. Heh, that’s funny. Now in a new abandoned city. Which is also funny to say. I went into a very expensive-looking hotel.
Going to the top floor, I was happy to know that the elevator still worked. Not! Why the hell would it work? This place has been abandoned for many years, after all. Regardless, the top floor was a penthouse.
Now, it wasn’t like nothing was still working. The elevator, after so many years, finally collapse to the bottom floor. Which was why I couldn’t use it at all. But the electricity still worked, and so did the water. This hotel seemed to be reserved for the most elite of people.
I saw many pieces of tech that shouldn’t have been common at the time that this place was built in. There were even small robots that cleaned the place, so the room was pristine, like it was brand new.
With a satisfied grin, I took my still sleeping daughter to the bath, and I bathed her carefully. I didn’t want to wake her up since it wasn’t needed. She did a lot of work for our people; you know. Once I cleaned her and I off completely, I put some lingerie and a nightgown on her, and getting dressed in a similar outfit myself, I then put her to bed. Hugging her, I soon fell asleep with a happy aura surrounding me.
