Chapter 53: Skipped!
(Marinkia’s POV)
Since I have married Mai and Mercedes, it has been over twenty years. No, really. I am not lying about that at all. It didn’t feel like that long of a time. Numens were always ageless, and so was humanity for a long time.
For us, a long time would be fifty or more years. In those twenty years, or rather, I am too lazy to count how many years it has been exactly. Now it was just a few minutes away from the new year.
Bang!
Marinkia, Clare, Berna, Mai, and Mercedes: “Happy new year!” We all exclaim.
Confetti rained all around the room as we celebrated the new year. In fact, it was the start of a new century. That’s right! The year was now 2100! Such a smooth looking year…
For welcoming in the century, Krul decided to host a party. Krul’s parties were always extravagant, but this one was even more so. Pretty much everyone important attended the party.
Sarin: “When I first met you, I didn’t expect that you’d end up as our princess.” She said with a laugh.
Anna: “I figured that out before everyone else, which means that I can be smug about it.” She giggled.
Marinkia: “…”
Much Partying Later.
The party was over, so we went home. With Mai and Mercedes being my wives, they both have lived in Krul’s estate this entire time. Each had their own personal room, just like I do.
Krul: “Now that the fun is over, we all need to have an important discussion.” She said with a serious tone after we all sat down on the couch.
Clare: “Yes, it is very important. So please you three, listen well.” She said also in a serious tone.
Mai: “Did something bad happen?” She asked.
Clare: “Somewhat…” She said with a sigh.
Oh? What could have happened? These two have kept us in the dark, what it is that happened…
Krul: “Do you all remember the undead with glowing eyes?” She asked.
We all did, so we just nodded in reply to her question.
Krul: “Okay… The ones from my hunting grounds escaped many years ago. Tracking them was impossible, so we gave up on doing so.” She explained.
Marinkia: “Did they cause a problem in one of our other districts?” I ask.
Krul: “Yes. It is just that we have found an entire empire of undead with glowing eyes. All lead by one woman who doesn’t look like an undead, but is.” She replied.

Mercedes: “What is her goal? Does she wish to go to war with us? From what I understand, all undead with intelligence hate us greatly.” She asked with a thinking pose.
Krul: “That’s correct. Yesterday, their queen had sent a declaration of war.” She answered.
Mercedes: “…”
Mai: “…”
Marinkia: “…”
A new war? But… we haven’t even been at peace for that long… ironic that it is our “pets” that will start yet another damn war…
But this easily make sense. Zombies need to eat humans as well. Luckily, I don’t, and I find human meat kinda disgusting. That’s not the point, though. As of right now, we own all the livestock of humans.
In these past twenty or so years, it would seem that the smart undead have run out of living humans to feed their people with. It is no wonder why they wish a war now. It is either go to war, or starve to death.
Marinkia: “When will the war start?” I ask.
Krul: “In a less than a few days. For now, only the outside districts are in danger. There is a reason why I’ve brought this up.” She replied.
Mercedes: “What’s the reason?” She asked.
Krul: “If we go to war, then many of our people will die. Before letting that happen, I wish to go fight this war with my daughter. Alone.” She answered.
Mai: “Alone!? You can’t really be serious about sending Kia to war like this…” She exclaimed.
Clare: “I have already agreed to it, and I am sure that Kia will agree as well. Once the war is over, no one will ever try to attest to Krul’s and Kia’s position.” She said with a serious tone.
Marinkia: “Okay, I’ll fight. It has been a while, and I was honestly just worried that I wouldn’t get your permission, Mom.” I say with a smile.
Clare: “…”
Krul: “…”
Mai: “…”
Mercedes: “…”
Ah, I guess that is overselling it, huh? Rather than permission, it must be that Krul convinced her to let me fight in this war for our people. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have accepted me fighting once more.
Krul: “We need to leave today, Kia. The first wave will reach one of our districts in just a few days.” She informed.
Marinkia: “I understand.” I reply.
Saying goodbye to everyone, giving them hugs, kisses, and the like, I left the estate with Krul. Our destination is district 1285. Which is a district used primarily for farming humans.
Marinkia: “Is there a spy?” I ask with a curious tone.
Krul: “Extremely unlikely. Instead, they must have just smelled the humans.” She denied.
I guess that must be the case. After spending so long with my new people, I learned that really no Numen would ever betray each other. Conflicts for our people are small and rare.
You wouldn’t think that for beings that eat humans, that they would just talk out their problems. But the key reason is most likely due to their age. Krul rarely makes new Numens these days. In fact, besides Mai, there hasn’t been any new one made by her since then.
The reason is due to the lack of mates. This lack negatively affects our people. Those do have mates are fine, but it is a little ridiculous when a mate has 15 adoptive mothers… That is how much of a lack it is.
Krul: “Kia, I lied to your mother and our people.” She said.
Marinkia: “What did you lie about?” I reply.
Krul: “There was no declaration of war.” She answered.
Marinkia: “…”
Krul: “We aren’t going to any one district. Instead, we are taking the fight to them directly. Although no war has started, her people have already attacked many of our more remote human farms.” She explained.
Marinkia: “…So, we’re invading their land?” I ask with an unsure tone.
Krul: “That is correct. This is where I must ask yet another cruel thing of you.” She replied.
Marinkia: “…”
Krul: “I want you to invade them. My face is known to them, but yours isn’t. I will handle the ones attacking our farms, and you will kill the queen.” She proposed.
Marinkia: “Okay.” I agree.
Krul: “…Once again accepting so easily…” She said with a sigh.
Marinkia: “This will be the last time I accept a request from you without any reward in return.” I reply with a laugh.
Krul: “Very well… May you be successful. If you die… I will prevent Clare from ending her life.” She said with a serious tone, before giving me a hug.
Once the hug ended, the shuttle landed. Now, we were outside of our society. Waving Krul goodbye, I watched as the shuttle shrunk into a small dot in the distance, and eventually vanished from my sight. With a general direction given to me by my mother, I set off to hopefully end this “war” as soon as I could.
