Chapter 55: Shitty Nest.
(Marinkia’s POV)
Ava guided me to the nest that she escaped from. The trip there was all quiet. The woman clearly didn’t have much want to converse with a race that enslaved her people as nothing more than meat.
Ava: “It was in this building.” She said, pointing to another warehouse.
The smell of humans was nowhere besides right next to me, so this will be just a nest of undead.
Marinkia: “Follow me.” I order.
Ava: “I’m fine with waiting out here.” She denied with a wave of her hand.
Marinkia: “Are you sure? There might be other zombies around, or one of those special zombies may come and take you with them.” I explain.
Ava: “…”
Like a duckling, Ava then stuck close to my side. With a sigh, I walked up to the door and kicked it in. Inside were many normal undead. They seemed fresh… Most undead, by this point, should have rotted away. It has been years, after all.
For what purpose did they have for turning valuable sources of food, humans, into cannon fodder undead? Whatever the reason, I should just kill them off right away.
Some Time Later.
Cut!
Slash!
The nest was now destroyed, all the undead were re-deaded by me. Besides the cannon fodder, there weren’t any special zombies at all. Did this group get abandoned by their leader?
Marinkia: “What happened to the leader of these undead?” I ask.
Ava: “I have no idea. They just took us, and they then put us in this old warehouse. Since then, I haven’t seen their leader.” She answered.
Marinkia: “…”
They just left the humans to the undead? It was no wonder that Ava and her group managed to escape. These kind of zombies aren’t really smart, and they need someone to order them around.
If you just leave them alone, they will just be braindead wastes that only seek out the living. The only order they received must have been to not eat Ava’s group. Maybe the leader thought that fear would keep them here? Who knows…
Marinkia: “Let’s leave.” I say with a sigh.
Ava: “Are you going to take me back to the farm?” She asked.

Marinkia: “No. I have much more important business to deal with.” I deny.
Ava: “Then… can you please…” Her words were cut off.
Why? Because something swooped down from the ceiling and tried to attack her. Luckily, I was able to push her out of the way in time. Now, standing before us, was an odd, skinny, human-sized zombie. Glowing eyes, as you would expect at this point.
Marinkia: “You really failed with this group of feed, you know.” I say with a smug tone.
Skinny Special Zombie: “Fuck off! I was busy with other things. Besides, it is just a small group of humans. What does it matter if I lose them?” He replied with a scoff.
Marinkia: “Are you fucking stupid!?” I yell in annoyance, quickly cutting his legs off before he could react.
Skinny Special Zombie: “…”
Marinkia: “We can farm as many humans as we want, but your group cannot. Humans are an extremely limited resource to your group, but you wantonly waste such a valuable resource like this?” I say with an angry tone.
Skinny Special Zombie: “Pah! Why are you bothering to lecture me? Just kill me already, bitch!” He yelled.
With a scoff, I pierced his skull with my Katana, killing him instantly. Was this the group that wanted to take over our world? Is this a fucking joke!? I hope that this one was just a low ranked idiot.
Marinkia: “Ava, once again, let us leave.” I order.
Ava was staring at me like I was some monster, or at least some dangerous being. I guess that, to the undead that our enemies to us, and the humans, I am a threat to Ava, those groups as well.
Ava: “Right…” She agreed once she woke up from her shock.
Leaving the warehouse with Ava, I saw that the sun was in the process of going down. It wouldn’t be a good idea to explore during the night. I could do it alone, but not with Ava.
It would be far too hard to protect her while fighting in the night. After all, it only takes a single bite or scratch to get infected by a zombie. And unlike that special zombie from earlier, I don’t waste resources.
Looking around, I saw what looked to be an apartment building in the distance. It was similar to the one that I used to live it. That room was considered to be in a classical style, so it made sense for me to recognize the style.
Marinkia: “I am going to pick you up now.” I inform.
Ava: “What? Wah!…” She exclaimed in surprise.
Marinkia: “?”
Ava: “…”
Her face went red, and I understood why. It would make sense that she would be either embarrassed or aroused by me doing this to her. I have no intentions like that with her, though.
Jumping up the three story building, I jump from building to building until I was on top of the apartment. Putting Ava down, I took my Katana out of its sheath once more, and we descended the stairs carefully.
Sticking to the top floor, as it would be safer, we entered a room that didn’t have a broken in door. Inside was pure silence… Before the place was abandoned, it was still used up until it was.
This meant that the bed, and the bedding, were all still in perfect condition, and was even clean. All we had to do was shake out the dust. Picking up a bookshelf and a couch, I used them to block the door.
Hah… this reminds me of shortly after when I met Mercedes. With these, it was unlikely that any common undead would break down the door. We should still worry about the special ones, though.
Ava: “There is only one bed?” She said with a nervous tone.
Marinkia: “We’ll both be sleeping on it.” I replied.
Ava: “…”
Marinkia: “Don’t worry. I am not lusting after you. Besides, I am a married woman. If I cheated, my wives would surely kill me. Or at least, they would never forgive me. Which would be far worse than death.” I say with a laugh.
Ava: “That’s good.” She said with a relieved tone.
I laid down on the bed, and I was instantly annoyed. This bed was shit compared to the one that I usually sleep on… But this was war, I guess. I just need to ignore it for now.
Ava laid down next to me, and I waited for her to fall asleep before I did so myself. Looking up at the dark ceiling, as it was nighttime by the time that we made it to this room, all I could think of was my family. I hope that they won’t be too upset that Krul and I lied to them…
