Chapter 49: Amazing Daughter.
(Krul’s POV)
I have known my wife, Clare, for many, many years. Never once, despite me saying that she should do so, did Clare ever adopt anyone. Truly, she was just waiting for the right person to come along so that she could adopt them.
That person ended up being a mate by the name of Marinkia. The information that I learned about her was very interesting to me. A mate having glowing eyes? And ones that glowed a golden color?
How unique. In our entire race, only I have different colored eyes. But for some reason Kia had uniquely colored eyes as well. I figured that it was somewhat similar to how some undead have glowing eyes as well.
I was aware of Kia far before Clare decided to adopt her. After hearing Berna explaining how well she fought, I realized that I could easily accept Kia as my daughter.
When hearing Clare plead for me to save Kia, my heart stung. I can’t recall a time when Clare was ever this distraught, nor a time where she pleaded me for something. I knew then that Clare truly cared for our daughter.
Speaking of our daughter, I rushed over to where the abomination was, due to an explosion that I heard. Coming out of the large hole that she clearly made, Kia went to fight the monster without a care in the world. Not even noticing me watching her fight.
Ring!
Oh? Anna was calling me? What could she want?… As Anna was a very trusted person of mine, and how she really is a genius. I made it a point to always answer her calls. Hm… Kia seems to be fine with fighting that monster for now.
Krul: “What is it, Anna?” I ask.
Anna: “It’s about Marinkia.” She replied.
Krul: “What about her?” I reply.
Anna: “You remember that I took her blood a while back, right?” She asked.
Krul: “I do.” I reply with a nod.
Anna: “Earlier, Clare informed me that Marinkia’s identity was normal. But that isn’t true. In reality, Marinkia is a sleeper agent for Grant.” She explained.
Krul: “Sleeper agent?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.
Anna: “Simply put, Marinkia is an experiment by Grant. Using your DNA, she was created in a lab. Growing up, she showed no signs of being special, so Grant had her memories erased and threw her away.” She clarified.
This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
Krul: “…”
Anna: “From Berna, it seems that Grant messed up, and Marinkia has no loyalty to him at all. So you can rest assured. But this does explain why she is so special.” She continued.
After hanging up, I was very happy. Marinkia really was my daughter, even by DNA. As I had recently turned Mai before she marked Kia, this most likely caused the dormant DNA of mine within Kia to awaken.
This would explain everything unique about her. In reality, she isn’t a mate, nor one of the main race. Instead, she is a mix between the two. Now, thanks to my wife, I seem to have found someone to share my legacy with.
Later.
Kia fought almost identically to how I fight. The abomination couldn’t keep up with her, but neither could her weapons, both of which eventually broke as she fought. My Katana, which I’ve never given to anyone before, I was so easily able to let Kia borrow it so that she could finish the fight.
Once it was over, the smile on her face was intoxicating to see. This was the smile of a girl covered in the blood of her enemies, in pure bliss from managing to kill them. It was like that I was looking into the mirror…
Kia: “Hello, Mom.” She said with a happy tone, skipping up to me in glee, and handing me back my Katana.
Mom?… if anyone other person called me this, I would beat the shit out of them on the spot. But it felt so right for Kia to call me as such. It felt… very fluffy. That is all I can say to explain it. I had an urge, and I didn’t fight it.
Krul: “You did a good job killing that monster, Kia.” I say with a smile, after getting Kia to kneel down so that I could rub her head.
Are daughters supposed to be this damn cute?… The more that she rubbed her head in my hand, the more and more that I wished to continue patting the head of the blood and gore covered cute girl.
Once done, Kia looked to be sleepy. That would make sense. She was inside that monster for more than an entire day, after all. Not only that, but she still fought until the monster finally died from her relentless pursuit of killing it.
Kia: “Mom, inside that monster was a secret lab! And, I found the Grant AI!” She happily explained, taking off her backpack and pulling a chip out of it.
Krul: “…”
My eyes were glowing, so Kia had to tell the truth. This might that Kia really did find Grant. The last loose end to complete this war. With this, the war was officially over, and now I could rest while my empire expands in peace.
Krul: “How did you know who I was? Did Clare tell you my description?” I ask with a curious tone.
Kia: “No? I just used context clues to figure out who you were. I am glad that I was correct. I would have been so embarrassed if I called a real child my mother.” She said with a giggle.
Krul: “…”
Context clues, huh… This girl is kinda annoying. Though it isn’t her fault. In fact, it is my fault. My daughter acts just like how I do with Clare. No wonder Clare decided to adopt her. Kia was basically a younger, taller version of me.
It is actually very vexing to have a daughter that is far taller than you. If I had known that I would be a mother like this, I wouldn’t have chosen such a small permanent vessel to use…
Krul: “You seem tired, Kia. Let’s go home.” I suggested.
Kia: “Okay. I am very tired.” She agreed with a cute yawn.
While walking out of the tunnels, Kia fell asleep. Luckily, I was able to catch her in time. And as I was in the form of a little girl, I couldn’t safely carry her back to the shuttle. But Berna was here, so she carried her instead. I sure do hope that me saving our daughter will reward me with a few wonderful nights with my wife…
