Chapter 56: New Day.

Chapter 56: New Day.

(Marinkia’s POV)

Smash!

I woke up to the sound of glass being broken. Sitting up in bed, I saw Ava using a chair to break the window of the door to the balcony. Is she stupid? Though, to be fair, not many people lived in a place with doors that you had to open up yourself.

Marinkia: “What are you doing?” I ask, grabbing her hand.

Ava: “What am I doing!? Trying to survive!” She exclaimed in a hurried tone.

Marinkia: “What do you mean?” I reply.

Ava: “…The building is burning down!” She answered.

Marinkia: “Oh.” I reply with an unbothered tone.

Ava: “What do you mean,“Oh.”!? This isn’t a joke!” She yelled in anger.

With a smug grin, I walked over to the door she smashed, and opened it up casually. This earned me a good confused reaction from Ava. She really didn’t know how to open up the door, huh? Which is funny, because I showed her me opening up a door yesterday…

Marinkia: “Princess carry for safety.” I say, reaching out my arms toward her.

Ava: “…Okay.” She agreed.

Now carrying the funny human girl like a princess, I jump off of the burning building. Landing just a few feet away from the flames. Looking at the building, I was certain that the fire was set on purpose. You would need something to burn such a large building like this, such as gasoline. Or some other thing that burns well.

Marinkia: “Why didn’t you wake me up?” I ask after letting her down.

Ava: “Huh!? I tried to wake you up for an entire hour! You slept like a dead person the entire time…” She said with an annoyed tone.

Marinkia: “Ah… I am a heavy sleeper, you see.” I reply with a laugh.

Ava: “…”

Still… who set this fire? I don’t recall being followed to this building, nor do I think that someone knew our location… Wait! I forgot that Numens can look through the eyes of their controlled undead. It wouldn’t be that crazy of an assumption to say that these special undead could do the same as well.

Slash!

For a reason I didn’t really understand, I blocked a slash directed at Ava, using my back to take it. Why the hell did I protect her? To me and my kind, she wouldn’t be something so valuable that you’d risk injury to protect them…

Stolen story; please report.

Ava: “…You’re bleeding.” She said with a shocked expression.

Marinkia: “It’s fine. My kind heals quickly.” I say with a shrug.

Drawing my Katana, I faced the one who attacked me. It was an undead with glowing yellow eyes, who dressed up like a samurai. I guess that he might be similar to Axel? Though, he might just be a silly undead cosplayer.

Marinkia: “Were you the one who set the fire?” I ask.

Samurai Undead: “That is correct. I had little hope that it would kill you, if I am being honest.” He answered.

Marinkia: “…”

Samurai Undead: “Instead, I just wished to not fight you in such an enclosed space. Now, we can fight on equal footing.” He exclaimed before lunging an attack at me.

Clang!

He was fast, but Axel was far faster and seemingly more skilled as well. It is getting annoying to keep having to deal with such disappointing opponents one after the other… Regardless; I didn’t let my guard down while fighting him.

A Fight Later.

Slump!

The samurai undead finally fell to the ground, dying his second and final death. I let the fight go on for over thirty minutes, but even I have my limits. I don’t mean that I ran out of energy. Rather, my limit to boredom was long since passed. I was almost falling asleep…

Ava: “Are those special zombies really bad, or are you just really strong and skilled?” She asked.

Marinkia: “They aren’t weak humans, that’s for sure.” I reply with a smug tone.

Ava: “…”

Marinkia: “And, yes. I am very strong and skilled. Looking at the corpse, I would say that he was friends with that one I killed yesterday.” I say with a thinking pose.

Around his arm was blue cloth band. I didn’t think much of it yesterday, but that other special undead had a similar thing on his arm. I guess that this is a way to tell a friend from a foe, or something along those lines.

Ava: “That would explain why he came after us…” She replied.

Marinkia: “That’s what I think as well. Anyway, we shouldn’t stay in this area. We have no idea if there are more of his group waiting around this place.” I say with a serious tone.

Ava: “What about your wound?” She asked with a concerned tone.

Marinkia: “My wound is already healed, and I didn’t get hurt at all during that entire fight.” I reply with a shrug.

Ava: “That’s good.” She said with a smile.

Marinkia: “Though, I am upset. This dress is worth 500,000 Credits… on sale.” I say with a sad tone.

Ava: “…”

Damage of my expensive dress aside, I picked up Ava once more, and jumped from building to building. I went as fast as possible, so no one would have the chance to follow us. Of course, I didn’t go too fast to the point where Ava would get hurt or sick.

Ava: “Wow… a forest. I haven’t seen one this big in… well, ever.” She said with an excited tone.

Currently, we were in a large forest. It wasn’t that far from the city, due to the fact that the forest was already in the process of overtaking it. As for why… this area was one of our tests to revive the earth. It would seem to be possible.

Hm… I should invest in the company responsible for riving the earth. Hah… It is so funny. In a world that would normally be considered to be apocalyptic, I am worried about investing in a random company. I am sure that most humans would find this laughable.

For me, I have honestly forgotten about the apocalypse. Since humanity was taken over by us, and turned into just being our livestock, it wasn’t an apocalypse anymore. Hell, I haven’t even seen zombies in many, many years. We killed off all of ours; you see.

Ava: “Wow!” She exclaimed.

Marinkia: “What?” I ask, snapping out of my thoughts.

Ava: “There is a package of food over there!” She explained, quickly running off to the food.

Marinkia: “Wait!” I say in vain.

Is this girl stupid!? Why would food be in such a place? It is blatantly a trap! Stupidly, the girl harnessed power that only a hungry human could, and ran faster than I could react. Within seconds, the silly human girl fell into a stupid and obvious trap…
