Chapter 35: Annoying Girl.
(Marinkia’s POV)
Even now, I was still staring down the barrel of a handgun, all while having a smug as all hell look on my face.
Faye: “Why aren’t you scared?” She asked.
Marinkia: “Should I be afraid?” I reply.
Faye: “Do you think that I won’t kill you? Even in this building, it won’t matter. Not only can I kill you, but I can get away with it too!” She exclaimed.
It wasn’t that I thought I was bulletproof. I am pretty sure that I wasn’t. Even if she does kill me, what does it matter? Clare will get pissed off, and could perhaps convince Krul to get revenge for me.
And if she didn’t, Mai and Mercedes wouldn’t take my death so easily. Even if it will break the rules, they would come here to get revenge on this woman. What do I have to fear? It should be clear at this point that I do not fear death.
Marinkia: “I am sure that you can kill me, and even get away with it. But does that matter?” I reply.
Faye: “…”
Marinkia: “Clare isn’t stupid. You won’t get charged with my murder, but you are a fool if you think that Clare won’t try to get revenge. On top of that, do you really think Clare will accept you if you murder her lover?” I explain, taking a sip of my tea.
Faye: “Tch!” She clicked her tongue and then she left the office.
Wow… giving up so fast? I guess that it really was an idle threat. Said threat didn’t work on me, due to the fact that I don’t really care if I do die. And also because I knew her firearm wasn’t able to fire.
If she really did try to kill me, I had ample time to stop her from doing so. I might not fear death, but that doesn’t mean that I will just sit there and let some random person end my life. After all, Mai and Mercedes will be upset.
The secretary returned to the office with a very remorseful expression on her face. I just waved her away, and she went back to her job. I wonder what her reaction would have been if my brains were plastered all over her couch?
An Hour Later.
Clare: “Marinkia, are you okay?” She asked with a concerned tone after entering the office.
Marinkia: “…”
Oops… I forgot that I can’t lie to her. Or any other Numens, for that matter. Will she be pissed off about what Faye did to me? Ah, I should just keep quiet about it.

Clare: “Not answering? Hey, what happened while I was talking to Faye’s mother?” She asked her secretary.
Secretary: “…”
Clare: “Answer within ten seconds or I will have you fired, and you will no longer work in this city. I might even throw you outside the city walls.” She said with a serious tone.
Secretary: “Miss Faye kicked me out of my office and had a private chat with your girlfriend!” She hurriedly admitted.
Clare: “I see…” She said with an annoyed tone.
With a scoff, Clare guided me back to her office. Much to Clare’s surprise, I just sat back down on her couch and I played with my smartphone. Not even looking like I just had my life threatened.
But the threat was from and by a weak human. As such, did it really count as a threat? In reality, the only reason why I didn’t kill her… was because it would be illegal. I don’t want any problems with Krul Tepes, after all.
Clare: “Marinkia, answer me truthfully.” She said with a serious tone.
Marinkia: “Faye tried to pay me off, but I said that I had access to all your money. I also said that we were childhood friends, and that you are making our relationship public sometime soon.” I answer.
Clare: “That all? Though, I am very happy that we somehow came up with the same story.” She replied with a laugh.
Marinkia: “Hm… Besides Faye threatening me with a handgun, nothing else happened. I am pretty sure that I pissed her off, though.” I reply.
Clare: “…”
Oops… I messed up again. Now Clare was forcing me to look into her deep red glowing eyes. I kinda hate that these Numens can’t ever believe someone at face value. They always have to resort to their damn truth seeing ability…
Clare: “Is everything that you’ve said true, Marinkia?” She asked with a serious tone.
Marinkia: “Yeah.” I reply with a nod, that didn’t really go anywhere as Clare was holding up my head.
Clare: “Were you scared?” She asked.
Marinkia: “Not even a little bit.” I deny.
Clare: “Why weren’t you afraid? Even someone like you who has gone through a lot, surely you should have still been a little afraid, right?” She asked with a curious tone.
Marinkia: “Like I said, I wasn’t afraid. At worst, Faye would have killed me, and you or my wives would have gotten revenge. Or I would have had to kill her. Why should I care about the threat of a little human girl?” I reply with a scoff.
Clare: “Hm… That’s a good answer.” She said with a laugh.
Clare then stopped holding my chin, and she went back to sit at her desk. Oh, she even went back to working? Man… I feel like I barely understand these Numens sometimes.
Clare: “I’ll get off of work in a few hours. Just mess around on your smartphone until then.” She said without looking up from her… I think that’s called a laptop?…
Anyway, she didn’t need to tell me twice. There were many games that you could download and play, and that’s what I spent most of my time on doing. The problem with them was that each had way too many ads…
If I was an asshole, then I would just waste a bunch of Clare’s money on these so called “Micro-transactions.” Even if the game is free, I don’t think that these transactions would be micro in the least…
Clare: “Oops… It seems like we pissed off Faye and her mother too much…” She said with an annoyed tone.
Marinkia: “What happened?” I ask, not even bothering to look up from my smartphone.
Clare: “They’re a bunch of people slandering one of my businesses online.” She answered.
Marinkia: “Just spend even more money than they did and hire a bunch of people to praise your company instead.” I suggest.
Clare: “That’s what I plan to do, but I might have to stay at work for longer…” She said with a sigh.
Marinkia: “I don’t mind. Just do you work, I will just be chilling on your couch.” I reply.
Clare: “Okay, just expect us not to leave until late in the day. Or possibly even late in the night.” She advised.
I wonder how long it will take for her to save the reputation of one of her businesses? Eh, not that I really care. I have no skin in this game. Not to mention, I have various shitty mobile games to play!
