Chapter 44: Mother Daughter Bonding.
(Clare’s POV)
For our kind, either you adopt a mate as your daughter or son, or you adopt a newborn one of our kind. Even with Krul’s knowledge, they’re still weak. Taking millions of years of knowledge into your mind, and fully grasping it, takes a long time.
The quickest someone has done such a thing was Anna. That woman… If it wasn’t for her, then we perhaps wouldn’t have been able to deal with Grant and destroy his empire so fast. Anna’s contributions to our kind are many.
Back on topic, there is no such thing as going out hunting with a mate daughter or son. They’re too weak and, if they have been a mate for a long while, far too innocent.
As such, you can only take an adopted newborn one of our kind out to hunt. This means that I will be the first person in history to hunt with a mate daughter. Kia is far more special than she thinks.
After all, it’s not like she is the first double marked mate in history. But she is the first one to gain Krul’s knowledge. Berna’s theory on why this happened is due to Mai. Apparently, Krul had turned Mai into one of our kind, and Mai marked Kia not that long after.
That meant that Krul’s virus, which is an important part of our DNA, was still very much within Mai. So, Kia had gained some powers and knowledge that only a non mate of our kind would get.
Kia: “Will the spitters not try to take our shuttle down?” She asked.
Clare: “Usually not. You don’t think that we flew out of the city where others could see, right? The outside of this car is invisible. That is, it reflects what is above and around us.” I reply.
Kia: “Oh, so it is see-through… Good to know.” She replied.
Some Time Later.
We had to land in an area that wasn’t in the use of that underground monster. If we tried to land near it, our shuttle might have been attacked. But we didn’t land that far away from our target. The monster is less active at night, so that’s when we decided to go hunt it.
Currently, we were on the ground floor of the city, heading to where we can find that monster. It seemed that Kia knew her way around this place. It does still shock me that Kia survived this place, though…
Thud!
Suddenly, there was a tall variant of the undead, jumping down from a building, and standing right in front of my daughter. They had weird mouths, and they honestly looked very hideous. Out of most of the special undead in this district, this one is Krul’s most hated.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Kia: “…”
This one even had glowing yellow eyes!? Oh, no… Kia is just standing there. Is she unable to move from the fright? I need to protect her, even if Krul will be upset! But what happened next shocked me even more…
Kia: “Hey, your eyes changed color. Did you get stronger?” She asked with a curious tone.
Clare: “…”
Special Tall Zombie: “Haha, yes I did. And it was mostly due to those crystals that you gave me before.” He happily replied.
Clare: “…”
Kia: “My mother and I are going to go kill that underground monster, do you mind?” She asked.
Special Tall Zombie: “You’re going to kill it? Please do! That thing has been stingy with the food lately, and it has even started to eat undead, rather than just eating humans.” He agreed.
Clare: “?”
Kia: “Really? I wonder why it decided to change its mind on feeding you all.” She said with a thinking pose.
Special Tall Zombie: “The ground around it shakes from time to time. I think that it is getting larger… Maybe it needs more food to do so?” He suggested.
Kia: “Maybe…” She somewhat agreed.
Special Tall Zombie: “My kind has already mostly left the sewers, but the remaining ones will not attack you or the other two. Please hunt that thing!” He said with an energetic tone.
Kia: “I will kill it dead, don’t worry! I will even leave the meat for you as well.” She happily replied with an excited smile.
Clare: “???”
Special Tall Zombie: “Oooo! Nothing better than free food! Please kill it quickly, then!” He exclaimed.
With a thumbs up, the undead had left the area. What the hell? Not even Krul has been able to converse with an undead. Most of them attack on sight, even if they have regained their mind.
After all, they know it in their bones that we’re the ones responsible for turning them into such monsters. Looking over at Berna, her expression was one of bafflement, just like mine was. So… this was a crazy thing to witness.
Kia: “There is a sewer just a little way from here. Let’s head there.” She suggested, not even realizing what a crazy thing that she just did was.
Clare: “How… how many zombies have you talked to?” I ask while walking with Kia.
Kia: “Hm… Probably five or so. Why?” She replied.
Five of them!? I didn’t even need her to look in my eyes to know that Kia was telling the truth…
Clare: “No reason.” I lie.
Kia: “?”
Kia seemed to think that I was lying, but she didn’t press me on it. And as for that undead, if he saw that our eyes could glow red, he probably would have attacked us. Regardless of his good relationship with Kia.
Berna: “Marinkia, how do you know that undead?” She asked.
Kia: “Shortly after arriving in this district, I went to a camp of weird humans. Since they were aggressive, I just killed them all. I gave the bodies to him and his group, so he promised to not attack me, and the same went for any of his species.” She explained with a nonchalant tone.
My daughter just causally admitted to killing a large amount of humans, and then feeding them to some undead. Was this really a mate? Even if Kia doesn’t see humans as her people anymore, why is it that she can kill them without any remorse at all?
Krul’s knowledge that Kia has access to must be more than we originally thought. As Krul very much sees humans as nothing more than food and entertainment.
This image that she has of humans is very strong. So strong, that all of the people that she turned into our kind, thinks the same of humans. There isn’t a single person who feels remorse for the humans.
Mates would be upset to see them killed, but they don’t really care that much about them. With just this, Krul is certain to accept Kia as our daughter already. Now then, what else will my daughter amaze us with tonight?
