Chapter 48: Let’s Escape!
(Marinkia’s POV)
Fun fact: these pruning robots always come with warnings. Why? Because they’re the cheapest made ones. Hell, even those that live off of their UBI could afford one. Not to mention, they were a very old model from the 2050s.
The warnings were simple, too. Just don’t drop it from a high, shoot it, or hit it with a large impact. The reason was that this robot was very explosive. Though, with how rare it was for people to do something this stupid, or do a little terrorism, such an incident never came up.
Clank!
Back on topic, or rather, it was on topic. In the room where I found Grant, I gather up as many robots as I could. This amount of them, which, as this took HOURS to do, was in the hundreds, should practically be a nuke.
One time, I had submitted a report to the engineers of this robot. The report detailed, as I sometimes like to tinker with things, that the robot could be easily rigged to explode.
And it wasn’t a hard thing to do, either. I am glad to see that they never took my report to heart and fixed the damn glaring problem. You could even rig them to explode on a timer.
Though I had no need to know how to set such a time bomb before, setting a timer on one of the robots, so that I have more than enough time to escape the blast, is very useful. From my limited understanding of my position, I think that this lab is in the front of this monster.
Marinkia: “It’s a shame that I am not stupid enough to stand close to the explosion. I am sure that the fireworks will be somewhat pretty…” I say with a sigh, rigging the robot in front to explode in five minutes.
Once the timer was set, I booked my ass out of that lab as fast as I could carry myself. It didn’t take long for me to be well away from the blast, and the flesh of this creature should give me much meat cover from the impact.
Boom!
Marinkia: “…”
Good thing that I blocked my ears… I might have gone deaf from the sound of the explosion. Running back to the where I set up the makeshift bomb, I saw an amazing sight!
A giant hole was created, revealing a large exit out of the creature. While exploring, I didn’t see any hearts, so maybe to kill it, I need to destroy the heads? Coming of the hole, I was greeted by attacking tentacles.
Stolen novel; please report.
Slice!
Oh, so you gained more energy since our last fight, huh? How annoying. But that won’t save you! Cutting another tentacle, I looked at my reflection on my Katana. I saw that my eyes were glowing gold, so I didn’t hesitate any longer.
Climbing up the fat meat body, I made my way to the first head. Now that I was up close to it, the size of the head was insane. Could I even cut this head off? I think that I could…
Slice!
Wow… that was far easier than I thought that it would be to cut. The neck of each head was far weaker than any other part of the monster’s body, including the tentacles. Such a glaring weak point… Grant, you disappoint me once again!
Smash!
The giant head, with no neck to support it, fell to the ground. Its large size and weight caused it to be instantly turned into a red paste when it hit the ground. This earned me a loud roar from the remaining heads.
With one of their heads gone, the monster took no more chances with me. At any one time, I would have to fight off over a hundred different tentacles. This bombardment didn’t stop me from doing my job, though.
An Hour Later.
Cut!
Thud!
Once again, another head was decapitated by me. It fell to the ground and splattered just like the other one. I didn’t expect such an attack, but I managed to dodge in time.
Rather than attack with tentacles, the monster sprouted out giant arms and hands. I would surely be squashed like a bug if I get hit by one of them… But this was a mistake on the monster’s part.
The large limbs gave me an even easier route to the heads. Rushing up, I stuck my sword into another head. Halfway through the neck, I had to stop and jump off from the monster. Looking at my sword, my heart ached…
Snap!
The sword that my mother, Clare, just had remade for me, was broken at the hilt. My Katana was also broken not that long ago, snapping at the hilt just like this one did. Despite being weaker, the flesh of this monster still damaged my weapons a lot.
And my combat knife was nowhere near long enough to cut off a head. Shit… what do I even do now? I have no weapons, and I was so close to killing this monster. With only three heads remaining…
Krul: “Here, use this.” She said with a giggle.
Turning around, I caught a Katana that was flying in the air. Looking at who threw it at me, it was a little girl in a pretty red dress? Whatever… Unsheathing the Katana, I was shocked by the red gleam that it radiated.
This Katana was on a different level from the one that broke earlier. It probably wouldn’t even be damaged by this monster at all… Managing to resist the urge to ask the girl questions, I went after the monster once more.
A few Hours Later.
Splash!
The monster’s final head hit the ground, turning into paste just the others. The abomination was dead, no longer moving even an inch. Ah, so my assumption that the monster needed its heads to survive was right, huh?
With the monster dead and gone, I breathed a sigh of relief. As I turned around to look behind me, my glowing eyes returned to normal. The girl was still there, sitting like she was watching some amazing piece of entertainment.
Who even was this woman? Her eyes… they glowed with a deep purple. Unlike a Numen, but I could still feel that she was one, all the same. Hm… do Numens not age, or is this really a little girl?
Ah, who am I kidding? This is clearly my queen and my mother, Krul Tepes. Who else would this be? Surely, Clare pleaded with her to come save me. Man… I truly do have very kind and loving parents! I am very tired…
