Chapter 62: Teaching!
(Marinkia’s POV)
With Ava now being a Numen and having a weapon, there was no need to find shelter for the night. Ava was more than capable of defending herself. And besides, our kind can easily see in the dark.
It isn’t nightvision similar to how dogs and some animals see, either. At least, from the random information that I knew of such animals… To date, Krul was only able to save things like cows and chickens. Dogs and cats are still extinct.
Well… they were, but during this time, Anna was able to revive them. She estimated that it will take another hundred years to bring back most species. But that’s completely beside the point. What I am trying to say is that we can see in the dark just like it was in the day.
This doesn’t mean that going to sleep is hard. It isn’t. Unlike humans, we can choose rather or not that we wish to see in the dark. Which is something that Ava is still very happy about, even hours later after the sun went down.
Ava: “It is so weird to be able to see in the dark like this…” She said with a wistful tone.
Marinkia: “You’ll get used to it.” I reply.
Ava: “Does this mean that I can stay up for as long as I want to now!?” She suddenly exclaimed.
Marinkia: “For our kind… well, the record was staying up for twenty years without ever getting a wink of sleep.” I explain.
And who else would get such a record? That was obviously Anna. Not to mention, she was going to stay awake for far longer, but Krul forced her to sleep. Not in the friendly way, either. Krul can order any of us to do anything, and we cannot resist it.
Her extreme action wasn’t without cause, though. Staying awake for some many years had a negative on Anna’s health. There was a genuine fear for her life, you see. In fact, now there is an entire position dedicated to just managing her life.
Anna is that type of person, you see. The kind that puts all of their effort into their craft or research. Even with her basically being immortal, there is no reason to let her have such bad habits. At the very least, we should assist Anna with her life, as she neglects everything besides her research. I need to be careful with Ava on this matter…
Ava: “Can I stay up forever, then?” She asked.
Marinkia: “No.” I deny.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Ava: “Why not?” She asked with a pout.
Marinkia: “You will start to feel sick after a year or two of not sleeping. At most, I can only allow you to stay awake for a week or two.” I answer with a stern tone.
Ava: “Aw… But I honestly hate sleeping. So much time wasted…” She said with a sad tone.
Marinkia: “Don’t compare Numen sleep to human sleep, silly girl.” I say with a laugh.
Ava: “?”
Marinkia: “For us, sleeping anymore than an hour is considered oversleeping. And no, one hour of sleep isn’t the equivalent of 8 hours of human sleep.” I continue.
Ava: “What is it, then?” She asked with a curious tone.
Marinkia: “About 15 hours, depending on if no one wakes up you or disturbs your sleep slightly.” I answer.
Ava: “What the hell… At that point, is there really any reason to stay awake? An hour is nothing…” She said with a thinking pose.
Marinkia: “You’ll understand it better soon. As you won’t feel sleepy for weeks, haha. I only slept with you since I had nothing else better to do.” I say with a giggle.
Ava: “…”
Slash!
All of a sudden, a figure jumped down in front of Ava. With speed that was the same as mine, she quickly cut the figure in half. Anna did a lot of studies, and she found that I was on the same level as Krul. Better than 100% of other Numens.
It would seem that Ava has gained the same level as me. Which is insane… This would mean that our new species in the newest pinnacle of our race. The implications were crazy to think about, to say the least…
Ava: “Wow… I killed that zombie before I even realized it…” She said with a shocked tone.
Marinkia: “Good job! Though, some special zombies can talk. Most of them are enemies, but it is best to avoid killing them instantly.” I say with a proud tone.
Ava: “Sorry…” She said with a remorseful expression.
Marinkia: “This one doesn’t have glowing eyes, so there is nothing for you to feel sorry about. You did a good thing in defending yourself so skillfully.” I say with a motherly tone while rubbing her head.
The changes to Ava didn’t just extend to her hair and eyes. Her body was now flawless, just like most Numens. Though, on top of these changes, she also got far taller. Frankly, she was practically my height now…
Ava: “How many special zombies are there?” She asked while looking at the bisected body.
Marinkia: “Hard to say, if I am being honest. It seems like there are new ones all of the time.” I say with a sigh.
Ava: “Don’t our kind control the undead?” She replied.
Marinkia: “We can. But they were just needed to win against the humans. Culling the humans was part of the plan, you see. We didn’t need that many of them for food, and nor did we need any low-quality humans to turn in our kind.” I answer.
Ava: “And the zombies?” She asked once more.
Marinkia: “We have already dealt with the ones on our side. That being, we killed them all of. Any of the rest are just stragglers. Of course, we plan to revive the earth, so we will have to kill them all, eventually. That goes for the remaining humans as well.” I explain.
Ava: “Don’t we eat humans, though?” She said with a cute head tilt.
Marinkia: “We don’t. That is, this variant of Numens that we are. Anna and Krul are working to get rid of this human eating trait of ours. Soon, this planet will be only for Numens, and Numens alone.” I answer.
Ava: “The world is still changing? Crazy…” She said with a sigh.
Marinkia: “Yes, it is crazy. I admit.” I say with a sigh of my own.
Somewhere along in the conversation, a swarm of undead surrounded us. Of course, they were all the weak basic ones that were hardly a threat. As such, we just talked while killing them. Even with just one kill under her belt before this, Ava was already killing the undead with skill, not even getting hurt or letting blood get on her. Ah, I am so proud of her!
