Chapter 34: Another Mess…
(Marinkia’s POV)
Marinkia: “That reaction looked pretty real to me…” I say after getting off of Clare’s lap.
Clare: “You see, this is why our mates need to be protected.” She said with a smug tone.
Marinkia: “?”
Clare: “Not only can we force humans and our mates to tell the truth, we can also tell when someone is lying. This also goes for fake emotions or acting. Mates tend to be somewhat pure, so it is understandable that they would get tricked.” She explained with a slightly stuck up tone.
What the heck? How many damn powers do these Numens even have access to!? I feel like they keep revealing more and more of them to me every so often… Her tone kinda pisses me off, though…
Marinkia: “If she can’t fool you, then why did she start crying?” I ask.
Clare: “That show wasn’t for me, but for my employees and anyone else that witness her crying.” She replied.
Marinkia: “What is her identity?” I ask.
Clare: “She is Faye Maticula. The Maticula family has existed since the war started, that being over 40 years ago. As such, they have a lot of power.” She explained.
Ah, so the war has been going on for 40 years… That was a good slip up of information! That bastard… He actually kept quiet about the war between him and the Numens until he gave up? That just pisses me off even more…
Marinkia: “I see… No wonder that she has access to your elevator. The receptionist, no doubt, she wouldn’t want to anger such a powerful family. Even if she is your employee.” I say with a thinking pose.
That doesn’t say anything about me, though. As I have definitely angered that powerful family. At least, I hope that I have just angered their little miss… Do I now have a powerful family after my head?
Come to think of it, I haven’t ever gotten the last names of any Numens. Even on that device, it just had Anna’s first name on it. Not her last name.
Marinkia: “What’s your last name, Clare?” I ask.
Clare: “Well… for our kind, we only have one name. Only Krul Tepes, our leader, has a last name. Actually, in a sense, our last name is our mothers, Tepes. But we just always use only our first name.” She answered.
Marinkia: “Ah, no wonder I never gotten a last name from a Numen. What is your fake last name here, though?” I ask with a curious tone.

Clare: “I don’t have one. In fact, the people of this place gossip about which family I am actually from. Or if I am from some secret family that wants to take this city over.” She said with a laugh.
Knock!
Coming inside the room after knocking on the door was Clare’s secretary. The woman didn’t look too good. What happened?
Secretary: “President… Madam Maticula is here to see you.” She nervously informed.
Clare: “So fast? That is surprising.” She said with a whistle.
Secretary: “Madam Maticula came with her daughter, but Faye took your private elevator up. Madam didn’t seem like she was going to meet you today, but after she saw her daughter crying…” She said, deciding not to finish her words after she laid her eyes on me.
Marinkia: “…”
Please don’t look at me like that… I know that this is a play, but it still hurts my feelings…
Clare: “I get it. Take Marinkia out with you. It wouldn’t be wise to let Madam Maticula vent her anger on her.” She ordered.
Following the secretary, I left Clare’s office. Then, I ended up at the secretary’s office. From one office to the next, huh? How funny. The secretary gave me some tea to drink, so I just chilled out on her couch and played with my smartphone. Though this little fun time of my was interrupted pretty fast…
Secretary: “I am sorry…” She said with a bow before leaving her own office.
Marinkia: “…”
Standing before me was that same woman who I tricked just a little bit ago. Ah, so did she expect that Clare would have me go to a different office? Faye would even use her own mother as a pawn… How also funny.
Faye: “How much is she paying you?” She asked with a serious tone, sitting down on the couch in front of me.
Marinkia: “Hm… I have access to her account, but I don’t really buy much.” I answer with a half truth.
Faye: “…”
Ha! She really was going to pay me to fuck off? Does that mean that Faye doesn’t have more money than Clare? I guess that even though she is the little miss, Faye doesn’t have full control over her family.
Marinkia: “Did you come here just to accost me?” I ask.
Faye: “Accost!? You’re the one who is lusting after my woman!” She yelled in anger.
Marinkia: “Your woman? Clare doesn’t belong to you, fool.” I say with a laugh.
Faye: “…I can say the same to you.” She said with a scoff.
Marinkia: “No, you actually can’t.” I say with a smile.
Faye: “…”
Marinkia: “Clare and I have been dating for many years. In fact, we are childhood friends. Frankly, it was quite annoying to watch you try to seduce her. But you failing was pretty funny, if I am being honest.” I say with another laugh.
Faye: “I don’t believe you.” She said in denial.
Marinkia: “Guess what? I don’t care about what you do or don’t believe. Clare has gotten tired of your antics, so she has decided to make our relationship public.” I reply with a shrug.
In anger, the woman took out a handgun and pointed it at my head. Which dumbass let this woman have a handgun?! Honestly… I can’t tell if she actually does like Clare, so she is willing to kill me for her.
Or that Faye just really doesn’t want to lose the chance of becoming Clare’s kept woman. As for why I was calm right now, the firearm was antique, but far newer.
On the slide, I could see that the loaded round indicator wasn’t popped up, the hammer wasn’t cocked, and the damn safety was on. Was this woman stupid and forgetful, or just making a false threat?
Marinkia: “Hm… It seems that the little princess you has access to some very dangerous toys.” I say with a calm tone.
Faye: “…”
Whatever the reason, it was far more fun to goat her into anger. Now then, will she try and actually get the firearm ready to shoot me, or will she just keep threatening me like this? Yeah, let’s just ignore why, for some reason, I now know a lot about firearms, similar to how I somehow knew a lot about fighting with swords a while back…
