Chapter 30: Before Exploring the City, Drunk Woman…
(Marinkia’s POV)
Splash!
My head went under the water, which really, really woke me up from my slumber. Note to self: don’t fall asleep in the bathtub again… Getting out of the bath, I cleaned off my backpack.
And by that, I just meant that I took everything out of it, even though it is waterproof, and dumped it into the bath until the blood and guts… and other things were washed off. Then I was left with a clean backpack that looked brand new.
My current clothes… Yeah, I wasn’t going to bother with trying to wash them off. These clothes were stained with the blood of probably thousands of undead and humans. Not even holy water could clean these clothes…
As such, I just threw them into the trash. I brought many sets of clothes to wear with me before I left my apartment. So I just changed into a new outfit, dried off my backpack, and then re-stuffed it with my stuff.
I was actually very surprised that I lasted so long in those clothes. I am being very strict with my resources; it seems. Which is actually very good. Looking at myself in the mirror, I saw new change…
Either I became more of a narcissist, or my body is now better looking. That is to say, there weren’t any blemishes on my body at all. My other eye was starting to turn golden, and more of my hair was golden as well.
With this, I am at least 90% sure that I will actually survive and become a Numen. With a smile, I left the bathroom and went to explore the hotel room. I didn’t explore it last night. I was much too tired to do so.
Much Exploring of the Hotel Room Later.
Come to think of it, I was just being an asshole. This place was very nice. Who did I think that I was? This district was clearly one that was for the wealthy people only. The kitchen was nice and was filled with machines that were old.
Of course, they weren’t actually old. They were new. I just meant that they were old tech. I guess that this place abandoned Grant’s tech faster than anyone else did. It was like I went back in time, or something.
Was this how people in the 2000 - 2040s lived? The last place on the list to explore was the bedroom. Opening it up with excitement, I was shocked at what I saw on the bed…
Marinkia: “Who are you?” I ask with a confused tone.
On the bed was a random woman. She was wearing a business shirt and skirt, and she really looked like an office lady. Though, rather than just an office lady, she looked like a CEO. She reminds me of my boss…

Woman: “…”
My words seemed to have woken her up… The woman got up from the bed and pulled me onto it. Then she got on top of me, straddling my waist. Excuse me? Why are you trying to assault me right now!? Please… I am a major bottom…
Woman: “I keep telling them not to send beautiful women to my room… but you’re very beautiful indeed.” She said, with her hand lovingly rubbing my cheek.
Marinkia: “…”
Woman: “Tell me… who sent you? Oh, I am not mad… I just want to reward them for sending such a tasty-looking treat to my bed.” She asked with a giggle, while playing with my hair.
Her eyes glowed red… This was a Numen. Ah, so this place really was controlled by the Numens… Well, I expected that. Anna’s device was enough to tell me as such. The problem now was… I couldn’t lie to her…
Marinkia: “I wasn’t sent by anyone.” I reply.
Woman: “Explain…” She said with a serious tone.
Marinkia: “I just came to this city last night. I met a guard and bribed him with some of those zombie crystals. He then informed me of this hotel, and helped me get a free room.” I explain.
Woman: “Right… I might still be a little drunk, but I do recall a room-service maid having to knock on your door… Why didn’t you open it if you were still using the room?” She asked.
Marinkia: “I…” I try to say more, but the woman stopped my words with her finger on my lips.
Woman: “Make sure to tell the truth, dear. Even if you’re a spy here to kill me… I will let you go.” She said with an evil smile.
Marinkia: “Do I even have the option of not telling the truth? From what I’ve experienced, most Numens can force people to tell the truth.” I reply with a head tilt.
Woman: “…”
Marinkia: “As for why I didn’t open the door… That’s because I fell asleep in the bathtub…” I admit with a red face.
After hearing my words, the woman stared at me. Then, she soon burst into laughter, getting off of me and going into the bathroom. What the heck… After waiting for ten minutes, still lying on the bed, the woman came back.
Clare: “What’s your name? Mine is Clare.” She asked.
Marinkia: “My name is Marinkia.” I reply, sitting up from the comfy bed.
I wish that I slept on this bed last night…
Clare: “Cute name.” She praised.
Marinkia: “I get that a lot…” I say with a red face.
Clare: “Did you call me a Numen?” She said with a curious tone.
Marinkia: “Yeah. That’s what I call your people.” I answer.
Clare: “So… you know that I am not a human? Tell me, how is it that you are still alive? Surely, you should have been killed by one of my kind.” She asked.
Marinkia: “I’m a mate, I think? Well… two Numens marked me. Both consented, by the way. And they didn’t really tell me much about anything.” I explain.
Clare: “Double consented and double marked? How rare… And you haven’t evolved yet, though I do see some early changes. You know… I have a friend who would very much like to meet you.” She said with a thinking pose.
Marinkia: “I have already given my blood to Anna. Copiouse amounts of it, at that.” I quickly say.
Clare: “You know Anna? Was she the one that marked you? And… how did you know that I was talking about her?” She asked with a serious tone.
Marinkia: “That’s a lot of questions… Sure, I know her somewhat. She didn’t mark me. And for the last question… I just guessed. Anna seemed like a big shot researcher of your kind. I was shocked to see that she made those zombie infection detection devices.” I explain.
Clare: “Heh, if you’ve met her…” She was going to say more, but then her PC lit up with a notification.
What the fuck… a PC!? Why is she able to use one!? It still works too!?
Clare: “Marinkia, I have something to attend to. Be a good girl and stay here. We have more talk about. Oh, you can order as much room service as you like. Just use the phone by the bed.” She informed, quickly making her way out of the room.
Marinkia: “…”
I guess that she really was in a hurry, huh? Considering that very old antique phones are used here, I doubt that everyone has access to PCs. Eh, I have more to ask of her, so I will wait here like the good girl that I am. It’s totally not because I want to eat real food and not those damn pills again…
