Chapter 31: Being a Good Girl.
(Marinkia’s POV)
Adjusting to this kinda outdated world took only a little bit of time. Soon, I was eating a very nice steak, that I totally didn’t pay for, while watching a tv show… that I also totally didn’t pay for, either.
Some of the shows available were just on a hard-drive that was connected to the tv. I didn’t even know that someone had kept digital versions of all these things.
As for the TV, it wasn’t that confusing to figure out how to use. It was sorta like a PC, but you had to use a remote thingy to operate it. Thankfully, I found a series that I didn’t get to finish before the world ended, so I watched it.
And in fact… I literally spent all day just eating and watching TV. This isn’t me… Sure, I stayed inside my apartment a lot, but never did I just sit here and consume entertainment like this. Now I fully understand what that old saying, “Couch potato.” actually meant…
I paused the show, so that I could see what time it was. Which was something that I haven’t been able to do for a while. It was now 8PM. Before starting the TV and watching shows while eating, it was 6AM. I really watched shows for that many hours?…
Speaking of which, where the hell was Clare? I guess that she really was a CEO… Though that is kinda funny. Being a CEO in a world destroyed by the undead. This normalcy was weird to me. If you never left the walls, you honestly wouldn’t even know that the world was ended by zombies and the Numens.
Knock, Knock!
Clare: “Ah, so you didn’t run, huh?” She said after entering the room.
Marinkia: “Why would I run?” I say with a head tilt.
Clare: “Because I am not a human?” She replied.
Marinkia: “Neither am I.” I say with a shrug.
Clare: “Surely you don’t believe that.” She said with a laugh.
Marinkia: “Oh, I very much do. I can jump great distances, kill countless undead, and I feel no remorse at all for killing humans.” I reply with a confident tone.
Clare: “Ah, so you’ve gone through a lot of changes, then. I am going to go take a bath. Please wait for me.” She said with a smile.
Marinkia: “Okay.” I reply.
I still had my steak to finish off. Man… I so missed real food. And I mean real food. This steak wasn’t made via Grant’s machines. They must have livestock, like cows and chickens, here in the city.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Leave it to the Numens to bring back a species of creature that is supposed to be extinct… After waiting for ten minutes just like before, Clare came out of the bathroom, wearing just a bathrobe.
Clare: “Now then, let’s ask and answer each other’s questions, okay? Keep in mind, since your wives are waiting to tell you everything, I cannot answer all of your questions.” She said after sitting down on the couch in front of me.
Marinkia: “Is this city a farm?” I ask.
Clare: “A farm? Not quite.” She replied.
Marinkia: “Then… what is it?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.
Clare: “Krul Tepes, our progenitor, and our Queen, our sole ruler, this is a paradise for her.” She answered.
Krul Tepes? Progenitor? More and more questions without answers… I doubt that she will answer these ones even if I asked her to do so.
Marinkia: “How so?” I reply.
Clare: “These humans live like people did in the 2020s. It’s fun, you see. Think of this as a theme park for our kind. Only those highly trusted and respected by Krul can be in this city. It is a privilege, you see.” She explained.
Marinkia: “I see… Does that mean that no one really knows about it?” I ask.
Clare: “That’s correct. It is a secret from really everyone in our race. As for Krul, she is throwing a ball in another city. Now, please answer my questions.” She replied.
Marinkia: “Ask away.” I urge her to ask me a question.
Clare: “How did you end up here?” She asked.
Marinkia: “I explored a secret lab in an abandoned part of my district. I ended up having to fight a giant, manmade organic weapon, probably of Grant’s design. Once I had killed it, I then walked into a tube machine thing, and got teleported to this district.” I explain.
Clare: “That so? Krul was the one who destroyed that lab. She told me so herself. You just went into the teleportation machine and got sent to the last inputted destination. Which was this district.” She said with one of her hands on her chin.
Ah, so it really was destroyed by a Numen? Damn… I am getting pretty good at guessing the truth…
Clare: “Who marked you?” She asked.
Marinkia: “Mai and Mercedes.” I answer.
Clare: “I haven’t heard of Mai… Must be a new one of our kind. As for Mercedes… we are actually friends.” She replied.
Marinkia: “Really?” I say with an excited tone.
Clare: “Yes. Though, her and Mai cannot come and save you. This district is known as Krul’s private domain. Only a select few can come and go from here.” She said with a sigh.
Marinkia: “That sucks… How can I escape?” I ask.
Clare: “You can’t.” She replied with a nonchalant tone.
Marinkia: “…”
Clare: “Don’t give me that sad look, you silly cute girl… Around the walls of this district are state-of-the-art force-field technology. Only those with specific clearance on their PCs can go through them.” She said with a laugh.
Marinkia: “Speaking of that, how the heck can you use a PC? Grant should have disabled them…” I ask with a curious tone.
Clare: “Grant was a fool. Our people, even before the war, had already infiltrated every aspect of his world. As such, it was very easy to make our own version of his tech. Of course, only my kind has access to PCs.” She answered.
Shit… the Numens get all the good shit these days… Which does make sense. It would seem that they now basically control the world. Grant has failed on an even higher level than I originally thought that he did…
Marinkia: “Thanks for answering my questions, Clare. I will be leaving now.” I say, keeping up from the couch and walking over to the door.
Before I could open up the door fully, Clare slammed it shut. Then she… Clare, turned me around and pressed me up against it. What the heck!? Her breasts do feel nice smushed against my own…
Clare: “You can’t leave, Marinkia.” She said with a seductive and serious tone.
Dammit… why do I always not only meet Numens… but also the ones that just so happen to be major tops? This is like, a major fucking problem!!! I am as bottom as a bottom can damn well be! Ah, please be gentle, Clare?…
