Chapter 14: Finally… Survival.

(Marinkia’s POV)

My next stop, which was actually my goal in mind this entire time, was my stomping ground. The place where I act like a child, and try to pretend to be in a survival situation.

Which is just the long way to say that this is the part of the city with a large forest. Specifically, it was mainly used for hiking. Though, as I have already said, most people tended to stay indoors.

And there were machines that managed this place. No security whatsoever, as no one committed crimes at all these days. That is, before the world ended.

Since there was no supervision, and that no one besides me even came here, it was a playground for me. With the money that I got from my job, I was able to invest in many things. Such as animal traps.

Not like there were even animals to trap, I just liked to roleplay a survival scenario. Is it a little out of character for a bottom like to want to be in a harsh survival situation?

Probably? But with the world ending via the literal undead rising up from their deaths, and there being an evolved form of humans, I think that we should just leave reason and logic at the door for now.

Moan…

No. That wasn’t a seductive moan by a cute woman… Instead, it was the moan of a zombie. Going over to where I heard the noise, I saw a zombie. It was a female one, and they had gotten caught up in one of the traps that I set.

Ah, so the money that I wasted actually came in handy? Amazing! Though, it was annoying to know that zombies ended up in this area as well. For the zombie, she was strung upside down in a tree snare trap of mine.

It was kinda funny; it trying to swing itself over to me. This zombie was true to itself. That is to say, it wanted my brains!!! Do these zombies even eat brains? Probably…

Taking out my Katan from its sheath, I cut off the zombie’s head with ease. Oh, that’s cool. I totally have experience using such a weapon. Not! This damn Numen stuff just keeps getting more and more confusing…

Female Zombie: “Moan…” She moaned.

Marinkia: “Still alive?” I say with a head tilt.

Ah, so it seems that cutting off the head isn’t enough to kill them? It really is zombie rules. You have to destroy the brain to fully kill them off. Hm… good to know, I guess. I still find it quite funny that a zombie got stuck in my little trap.

Hours Later.

Thankfully, I was certain that no Numen was in this area. Not to mention it really wasn’t that good of a place, the zombies didn’t have any direction. That is to say, they were stupid.

If a Numen was controlling them, then either they didn’t care about their zombies, or they were also stupid. Why else would these zombies fall into ALL of my traps so far?

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

Now, if this was a game, I would have gotten a shit ton of free experience in just a few hours. But unfortunately, despite the situation being pretty fantasy like, this was reality.

Which meant no exp for me, and I basically just killed the zombies for fun. Taking out a meal from my backpack, I ate one super water and one super food. Once I was full, I started exploring the forest once more.

Of course, there were a few free zombies that didn’t get trapped, but they weren’t a problem for me at all. And really, the main reason why I kept killing them… was because of something odd that would randomly happen.

Male Zombie: “Roar!” He yelled.

But his war-cry was short-lived, as I had quickly cut off and impaled his head with my Katan. And speak of the devil! That weird thing is happening again! The zombie, now that I killed it, seemed to melt.

Left behind, about where its heart should be, was now a crystal. Most of the crystals were blue, and I have no idea if there are other ones. From the stories that I’ve read, these might be ways for someone to get powers, or something.

No. I wasn’t stupid enough to try and eat one. Even if it did give me powers, I don’t want to mess with my current change into a Numen. After all, when it comes to having powers, and being a protected Numen wife, the choice that you should go with is very obvious.

Though that does beg the question, why is this happening? The other zombies that I killed didn’t do this at all. Instead, they just died and stayed at a rotting corpse.

The only difference that I can spot is that the ones that melt and leave a crystal behind tend to have eyes that glow. Not red like Numen eyes, but a somewhat bright blue glow instead.

Out of all of the zombies that I‘ve come’ across, only five of them had these weird eyes. Hm… Just more and more questions seem to pop up these days. I just wonder… will I ever have the answers to these questions?

Woman: “Don’t eat that.” She advised, taking the crystal from out of my hand with ease.

Marinkia: “…”

Woman: “What’s wrong?” She asked.

Her eyes glowed red, clearly she was a Numen. Why the fuck do I attract Numens so much!? This is getting to be fucking ridiculous…

Marinkia: “It’s nothing… I just keep running into Numens…” I reply with a sigh.

Woman: “That is only because we’re very active in this district. After all, it will be the last one to fall. And besides, normal humans, we will just kill on the spot. They never notice us before they die.” She said with a laugh.

The woman had somewhat short red hair, which fit her eye color. She was oddly dressed up like a biker. Come to think of it, why do I only met female Numen’s?

Sarin: “Names Sarin, yours?” She asked.

Marinkia: “Marinkia.” I answer.

Sarin: “Curious about something? I hope that it’s not my looks.” She asked with a curious tone.

Marinkia: “No? I am just curious about why I keep meeting only female Numen’s.” I reply.

Sarin: “That’s a funny word, “Numens” I swear that I heard it from somewhere before.” She said, ignoring my question.

Marinkia: “Yeah, there are quite a few IPs that call evolved humans that. I just stole it.” I reply with a shrug.

Sarin: “That so? I see. Now then, you only meet female Numen’s, due to the fact that direct line Numen’s can only be female.” She explained.

Marinkia: “Really?” I reply.

Sarin: “Our mates can be male or female, but they won’t actually be directly Numen’s. If you want a comparison, then just know that our mates will always be far weaker than us.” She continued.

Marinkia: “…”

Sarin: “Currently, what we would call this situation would be us hunting. As you can expect, why would we take our weak mates on such a dangerous trip? That is why you’ve only met female Numen’s, as you call us. Nice name, by the way. I think that I will stick with it from now on.” She said with a laugh.

Marinkia: “Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining.” I say with a smile.

Mates? Is that what I am to those two? I guess that I already knew that I was their wife. But it is odd being told that outright. Huh? Why is she still here?

Sarin: “Do you have any more of those crystals, Marinkia?” She asked with a serious tone.

Marinkia: “…”

I fucking hate fate!!! Why the flying fuck do I keep running into these women? Please! I just want to survive in a zombie filled world alone for a while! But nooooo!! I have to meet super evolved humans that are too strong for me to ever run away from. Why is my life like this?…
