Chapter 25: A Very Interesting Place.
(Marinkia’s POV)
Waking up in the morning with a satisfied yawn, I opened up my backpack for a morning meal. It seems that, the longer I manage to survive turning into a Numen, the more changes that I experience.
That is to say, that I could probably eat five of these super food and super water before I am full. Like Mai and Mercedes, I hope that I won’t end up craving human flesh anytime soon…
Looking down at the makeshift bed, which looked to be made via a pile of patchwork clothes, I could see that it was completely covered in blood. No, it wasn’t that time of the month for me. Do Numens even have periods?…
In reality, the bed was covered in blood, as I was still soaked in blood when I came to this place. The teleportation didn’t clean me off at all. Now that I am more awake, I realized how horrible that I smelled…
Marinkia: “I need a bath…” I say with a pout.
Considering where I was, I doubt that I could find a place to bathe. Though, maybe this district has a random body of water, such as a lake in it? Who knows…
Taking out my mirror, I looked at myself. My eyes… Well, they weren’t glowing anymore. But one of my eyes was golden, while the other was the normal brown color. On my brown hair, there was a streak of gold hair.
If I survive and evolve, I will end up with golden hair? That is pretty cool… With a sigh, I decided to leave the random settlement that I slaughtered just yesterday.
Since most zombies hate the sun, I didn’t see many of them outside of the settlement. The only ones still around were ones hiding in the shadows of buildings or shadows of other random things.
As for those special ones that I met last night, they clearly super hated the sun. They definitely wouldn’t be outside right now with the sun out so bright. Not to mention, the same should go for any other special zombie around.
I somehow made a good deal with that tall zombie species, but that isn’t the same for the other special zombies. Which means that I can’t just go around and look through random buildings. I mean, I can do that. But it wouldn’t be smart at all to do so.
Some Exploring Later.
After walking around for a while, I found a still working digital holographic sign. This was a very, very old model. Since it was kinda hard to see in the bright light from the sun. How old was this district?…

Regardless, I could see that it was a map. Specifically, it was a district map. That was when I realized a shocking truth… There… there were over ten thousand different districts!?
Sure, as this district was old, the wealthy districts weren’t hidden as they usually were. But even then, there were so many of them that I’ve never seen before. For me, I am actually decently young.
If my memory doesn’t fail me, it does from time to time, I should be barely 20 years old. I might be older, but not younger. No longer having to care about age, most people didn’t keep track of it once they reached adulthood.
At the very least, my earliest memory was of 2075. Or somewhere in that timeframe. The problem is that, from my knowledge, not counting the wealthy districts that were hidden, only 30 districts existed in my time.
How long has this war been going on? The undead, or rather, the Numens, had taken over most of the cities of this world. And we, Grant’s people, were kept in such a small bubble, not even realizing that such a war was going on?…
Marinkia: “Ah, my head hurts…” I say with a sigh.
I often heard that I was unlucky to be born in this age. For some reason that we didn’t know of, entertainment was in short supply. That is, new entertainment. For the past 40 years, rarely anything new got made.
But this was fine for us, as we had many years of content to go through. Forty years, huh?… Is that how long that the war has been going on for? Damn… I am getting so excited!
Mercedes seemed to be a noble of the Numens. Though Mai was a newer Numen, she still looked regal. Even so, doesn’t that mean that if I evolve into a Numen, that I will also be living like a noble?
That is, assuming that the Numens actually live like the humans did. If I was going to be stuck back in the stone ages… well, I would probably just kill myself. And probably so would Mai, too. She seemed to be an internet addicted girl just like me…
Ignoring the sign, I started to walk once more. Looking up, the sun should stay up for at least 8 more hours. So I had enough time to explore. I just need to make sure that I am near one of those UV light outposts before the sun goes down.
More Exploring Later.
Soon, I walked to another end of the city. In a large, blood written line and markings, I saw a dividing line. I guess that this was that one species of zombies turf? That would mean that I won’t be safe if I leave this area…
But I will also be bored. Yes, despite me being a total bottom, I was the kind of girl that would much prefer being in immense pain, or just outright dead over being bored. Never underestimate the lengths that an internet addicted girl will go to so as to not be bored…
Roar!
Stepping over the line, I heard a loud roar. Putting my foot back inside, the roar stopped. Repeating this action with one of my feet, I got whatever was roaring, to roar off and on ten more times. Much to my own bemusement.
Marinkia: “Heh… Whatever reason that you don’t want me in your territory, I don’t really care!” I say with a happy tone, fully jumping over the line.
You see, this is where I fucked up. There wasn’t a zombie making that noise, it was the entire area making the noise… Yeah, that’s right. Underground, there must have been some large undead.
Dodging tentacles that sprouted up from the ground, I soon made it back to the other turf. And the tentacles didn’t follow or try to grab me once crossing. Okay, fine… I get the message. I won’t explore that area. Not like I wanted to explore it! Hmph!…
