Chapter 33: Becoming a Kept Woman…

(Marinkia’s POV)

Damn… That was a good night’s sleep. Who knew that sleeping in blood drench clothes, in an environment where you could get munched on by undead at any time, would give you not so good rest?

Anyway, after I woke up, I ordered some breakfast from room service for me to eat. While eating, I realized a secret hidden in the words that Clare told me… All mates are bottoms!!!

No, really. Why is it that every Numen I have met is a top? And, they all ask me to be, and call me a good girl. Does that mean that all of their mates are supposed to be submissive? God… that’s kinda hot.

Either it is due to how life is in this era, but the idea that some strong and powerful woman wants to take care and protect me all my life is an amazing idea to me.

If so, is it due to the change that makes you a bottom, or do Numens only go after bottoms? I can’t really tell, as I was a supreme bottom way before I met Mai and Mercedes…

Knock, Knock!

Clare: “You stayed here just like I asked? You truly are a good girl.” She said with a smile.

Marinkia: “Can you please stop calling me that? It makes me feel fluffy…” I plead.

Clare: “…I can try, but our kind tends to praise mates a lot. Even if they aren’t ours.” She said with a sigh.

Marinkia: “That would be funny if such words didn’t arouse me.” I reply with a groan.

Clare: “Come with me.” She ordered.

Getting up from the couch, I grabbed my backpack, swords, and my combat knife. And then I walked out of the hotel with Clare. On the way into the car, I was seemingly photographed by random people. I think that those were cameras…

Clare: “Here in this city, I am a very wealthy businesswoman.” She informed.

Marinkia: “Great… Now people will think that I am a kept woman of a powerful CEO.” I say, sliding down in my seat.

Clare: “We’re going to my office, so it will be even worse for your public image.” She said with a laugh.

Marinkia: “…”

So this was a car, huh? This is the first time in my life that I’ve ever been in one before. After all, this was a luxury that only rich people could indulge in. The ride was similar to a flying shuttle, but on the ground instead of the sky.

A Car Trip Later.

Getting out of the car, I walked into a very nice office building with Clare. The people there had called her “CEO” or “President” as you would expect. And they looked at me with curious or jealous eyes.

You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.

We went over to a golden elevator and got in to it. This seemed to be Clare’s private elevator. It took only ten minutes to reach the top floor, which looked to be Clare’s private office. From here, you could see the entire city. What a view…

Marinkia: “Am I being a pawn at the moment?” I ask.

Clare: “Wise… Yes, you are a pawn at the moment.” She answered.

Marinkia: “…”

Clare: “There is a human woman who very much wants to marry me. Only for the benefits, and even worse… is that she pretends that I am already her girlfriend.” She explained.

Marinkia: “So you want me to be with you just so I can be your shield from her?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.

Clare: “For now, yes.” She replied.

Marinkia: “…”

Clare: “But do not think me a cruel person, Marinkia. As you are a mate of my friend, I will not treat you badly. Here in this city, people use bank cards.” She said, handing me a weird card thing.

She also handed me what looked to be a smartphone. Man… I have only seen these things in the movies… Now that I think about it, I have seen these “bank cards” as well. You can buy things with them, I think?

Clare: “Use that card and buy whatever you want. Though, I think that you should wait until we go back to my estate.” She proposed.

Marinkia: “If you have an estate… then why stay at a hotel?” I ask with a curious tone.

Clare: “Because that woman knows where I live.” She said with a groan.

Marinkia: “Why not just kill her?” I propose.

Clare: “How feisty… No, killing her will not be an option.” She denied.

Marinkia: “Why can’t you just kill her?” I ask.

Clare: “Because Krul bans all murder in this city. Even my kind cannot break these rules. Even if I have to respect the rights of the humans, I will endure. This place is just too entertaining to lose access to.” She explained.

So this is a place for entertainment mainly for the Numens? That is kinda funny… Mingling with their food, and having to treat them like they actually think that humans have any rights whatsoever.

Clare: “Now then, I have work to get done. Please just sit on the couch and play with your smartphone. If you’re hungry, there is a kitchen over there, and the restroom is over there.” She said, explaining her office to me.

Marinkia: “Yes mam.” I agree.

Clare: “Hmm… Yup, you’re a very good girl. It is a shame that you aren’t one of my mates.” She said with a sigh.

Sitting on the nice couch, it took some time for me to figure out how to use a smartphone. Though once I did figure it out, I realized that it wasn’t used at all. It was brand new…

Ah, so Clare is one of those rich people who have tons of copies of their devices and other things that they own, even if they never end up using them, huh? Whatever. Clare is cute in her own way, I guess.

Some Time Later.

Ding!

Huh? Why is the elevator being used? Shouldn’t only Clare have access to it? The other that needed to talk to her came from outside the office, not from the elevator…

Clare: “Damn… Seems like the news of me keeping you have spread, and that woman works fast.” She said with an annoyed tone.

Marinkia: “She has access to your private elevator?” I ask with a raised eyebrow.

Clare: “Her identity isn’t simple, unfortunately…” She said with a scoff.

Marinkia: “What a shame.” I reply.

Clare: “Marinkia… Do a play with me, and I will tell you a secret.” She said with a serious tone.

Marinkia: “What kind of play?” I ask.

Clare: “Sit on my lap, and lean your head down. From where the elevator opens, it will easily look like we’re kissing each other.” She explained.

With a shrug, I went over to Clare and sat down on her lap. The chair that she was sitting on was very sturdy, and it held us both with ease. But to be fair, I was a pretty lightweight girl. And Clare also seemed to be lightweight, too.

Ding!

The elevator opened up. From the corner of my eye, I saw the woman in the reflection in the window; I saw her happy smile vanish in an instant when she saw me kissing the woman that she was after. Then, she broke down into tears and went back down the elevator.

Shit… was she really chasing after Clare because she loves her? Did I just stupidly get involved in yet another complicated situation once again? Oops?…
