Chapter 59: Where am I Going…
(Marinkia’s POV)
After leaving the forest, we returned to more abandoned cities. We didn’t go in a circle, mind you. Instead, this was just another place that was abandoned. Only now, days into the trip, did I realize that I forgot to ask where I was supposed to be going…
Ava: “Hey, Marinkia? Where are we going?” She asked.
Marinkia: “Oh, I have no idea. I forgot to ask before I set off.” I answer.
Ava: “…”
Marinkia: “Let’s find a place to take a short break.” I propose.
Walking further into the city, we came across a building that looked to be used as a cafe. Entering it, the place was empty, without any undead in sight. Not to mention, the inside was pretty clean. The lock on the door was still working, and the windows weren’t broken in.
There was still dust everywhere, though. It wasn’t like someone was living here. Rather, this place was just lucky to still be in such a good condition. A very good place for a break, in my opinion.
Ava: “Can I go explore?” She asked with an excited tone.
Marinkia: “No.” I deny.
Ava: “Why not? I don’t care if I die, and you won’t either. I would much prefer to die while having fun, you know.” She asked with a pout.
Marinkia: “Are you suicidal?” I ask with a concerned tone.
Ava: “No? I am just a brat, I guess…” She admitted.
Marinkia: “Well, we can explore later. Just sit down while I make a call.” I reply.
Ava: “Huh? Do you care about me?” She asked with an unsure tone.
Marinkia: “So it would seem. I have accidentally adopted you as my daughter. It happens for our kind, you see.” I answer.
Ava: “…”
In a daze, Ava walked over to a seat and she clumsily sat down on it. She looked to be lost in thought. Honestly, I answered before my brain could comprehend what I had just admitted to. But I do not regret telling her this.
Krul: “Marinkia? Do you have any updates?” She asked after answering the call.
Marinkia: “I do.” I reply with a serious tone.
Krul: “Did you find the queen?” She asked.
Marinkia: “No.” I deny with a shake of my head.

Krul: “Then what is the update?” She asked with a confused tone.
Marinkia: “Oh, dear mother of mine, you didn’t inform me of where I was supposed to go. Which is the nicer way to say that I am lost.” I answer with a giggle.
Krul: “…”
My PC has a map, but it is only parts of our civilization. Outside our walls, there wasn’t any data. That Grant was a horrible ruler, but he did a few good things in his long rule. One of those things was the safe destruction of every satellite in space.
The fear that the satellites that we sent up to space would one day crash to earth, or collide into each other, causing infinite space debris that could fall to earth, was a problem that Grant would have to deal with. After all, he planned to rule forever.
As such, all we have are drones to the mapping. And until we revive the earth, there isn’t much purpose to scanning the rest of the world. If you need a game comparison, imagine an out of bounds area of a map.
Krul: “I didn’t give you a location, as we have no idea where she exactly is.” She said with a sigh.
Marinkia: “Huh? Then how am I supposed to find her?” I say with a head tilt.
Krul: “Luck?” She replied.
Marinkia: “…”
Krul: “No, really. You have amazingly stupid luck. I am certain that, if you continue to wonder around, you will eventually find their queen by complete accident.” She explained.
Marinkia: “…”
Okay, I’ll admit that I have weird luck. But is betting an entire war, the safety of our civilization, and me actually surviving, just on my luck which is oddly amazing, an actually good idea? Only time will tell, it seems.
Marinkia: “Mom, I found a human girl, and I have accidentally adopted her. What happens if I mark her?” I ask with a curious tone.
Krul: “Really? Anna has been begging me to get you to mark a human…” She replied.
Marinkia: “Why?” I ask.
Krul: “She is 99% sure that if you mark a human, they will turn into your new species for our kind.” She answered.
Marinkia: “Is that a good thing?” I reply with an unsure tone.
Krul: “Absolutely. Mates are hard to make, as you already know. But your kind should be easy to make. This will greatly solve our population problem. Honestly, you would only have to mark over a hundred humans, and the problem will be solved in less than fifty years.” She explained.
Marinkia: “Cool… Won’t we run out of humans, though?” I reply.
Krul: “Such a plan would end the humans, yes. But Anna has already come up with a way to stop us from needing to eat humans. It was just a trait that I gave everyone on a whim, you see. So getting rid of it isn’t that hard.” She replied.
After talking with Krul some more, I soon hung up the call. Looking over at Ava, she had fallen asleep cutely. Using her arms as a pillow, she was even drooling. Is it odd to have such a cute daughter? It doesn’t matter if it is, as I don’t care about what random people think.
Marinkia: “Ava?” I say, nudging her awake.
Ava: “Awa…uh…huh?” She said with a yawn and groggy tone.
Marinkia: “I want to make you into my kind. Do you accept?” I reply.
Ava: “Huh… This isn’t a dream!?” She said in shock after pinching herself.
Marinkia: “…”
Ava: “Why do you want to turn me?” She asked with a confused tone.
Marinkia: “Humans are very weak, and I do not wish for my daughter to die. Keep in mind, our kind lives forever. And you won’t become a mate or hunter. Instead, you will end up like me, which is a mix between the two.” I explain.
The girl needed time to think this over, so I give it to her. Becoming immortal was a thing that was forced on me, as I wasn’t aware of it at the time. It worked out for me in the end, but I don’t wish to force something like this on my own daughter. It will be her own choice.
Ava: “I… I want to not only be turned, but I also want to be your daughter!” She said with a serious tone.
Marinkia: “Okay. I’ll mark you later.” I reply, rubbing her soft head for fun.
Ava: “What? Why not right now?” She asked with a cute head tilt.
Bang!
Marinkia: “We have company, sorry.” I say with a slightly remorseful tone.
Ava: “…”
Outside of the cafe was a horde of undead. Clearly, they weren’t roamers. If they were, they wouldn’t have come to this cafe in broad daylight. Which would mean that someone is controlling them. Please be an actually good fighter this time…
