Chapter 2 The Apocalypse is in Full Swing...

(Marinkia’s POV)

I blocked my door off with a shelf, which was pretty heavy. I even pushed my couch over to support it. Just as I expected, only a week after the undead broke into the city, they already roamed the halls of this building.

Even if I try to be as quiet as possible, every few hours a zombie would bang on my door. Luckily, despite being a classical wooden door, it seemed to hold up far better than I thought that it would. Technically speaking, I could just permanently live in this room, as I had an infinite source of food and water.

But would that be a good idea? I will surely soon go insane. Even just being stuck in this room for a week, I am going stir crazy somewhat. I am sure that other people will be fine, as they’re used to staying inside all day, but not me…

Other people won’t be as lucky as the ones living in this building are, as we’re actually working people, which are rare these days. As such, this building isn’t for people leaving off their UBI. They didn’t have access to kitchens with infinite water and food, nor did they have enough money to buy portable versions of them.

If the need arises, I can still survive as long as I bring my portable food and water makers. As I was an outdoors person, I have plenty of backpacks to store them in. Well, I have two backpacks… The problem is that I have no idea if I will have to eventually leave the shelter of my apartment…

All of a sudden, I was absolutely spooked. Something was banging on the glass door of my balcony. How did a zombie even get on outside and on my balcony? I am on the 40th floor… Please don’t tell me that zombies learned how to fly…

With a kitchen knife in hand, I walked over to my balcony door, and I pulled the curtains away. Outside was a cute looking woman. From a quick glance, I didn’t see her injured or anything, so with a sigh, I let her into my apartment.

Marinkia: “Have you been bit?” I ask with a serious tone.

Mai: “No. I swear it! As for my name, I am Mai.” She confidently replied.

Marinkia: “Well, Mai, why have you come to my apartment?” I ask with a curious tone.

Mai: “I ran out of food and water. I was hoping that you generated some.” She explained.

Marinkia: “Huh? What do you mean? Is your kitchen broken?” I ask with a confused tone.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Mai: “Didn’t you hear? That Grant AI turned off all food and water making machines.” She answered.

What the fuck? Ignoring the woman’s gaze, I opened up my PC to check out the news. Grant sent a message to everyone still living, that said that to combat the invisible force, he has shut down most devices. The reason was because Grant was absolutely sure that there were spies among our people…

And what about the portable ones? Ah, thankfully, they seem to still work… For now. Grant might have just forgotten to turn them off, so I can’t rely on them forever. In fact, he might disable them soon…

Marinkia: “Quick! The portable ones still work! Help me make as much food and water, and as fast as possible!” I quickly suggest, before handing her one of the two portable devices that I have.

Mai didn’t wait to make a comment, and she quickly started making food and water. I specifically asked her to make power food and water. Power food were meals the size of a very small pill, but were an entire meal for the day. The same went for power water, with the water being a small pill that would hydrate you like you just drank multiple cups of water.

After doing so for an hour, the machines stopped working. Grant made a cheeky message that he forgot to turn off the portable ones. Which meant that I was correct in using the machines as fast as we could. This fucker is truly trying to destroy the entire goddamn human race at this point…

Mai: “Say, what is your name?” She asked with a curious tone.

Marinkia: “My name is Marinkia, why ask?” I turn around to reply.

Mai: “I would like to know the name of the person that greatly helped me out.” She answered.

Marinkia: “…”

Mai was holding and pointing a knife at me. She held onto a backpack filled with Super Food and Super Water. She kept pointing her stolen weapon at me, as it was my fucking knife, and she went out to the balcony. Before closing the door, she threw the knife back, and then leaped back over to her apartment.

Marinkia: “…”

Fuck… I guess that this is what I get for helping a random ass person… Looking at my remaining backpack, I’d say that I have about six months worth of food inside of it. With a sigh, I took out a Super Food pill, and a Super Water pill, and I ate them both.

They were only supposed to be used for people on the go, or for people who were busy, and even I hadn’t tried one of them before. It was basically tasteless, but I at least didn’t feel thirsty or hungry anymore. I walked over to my balcony door and locked it.

That is the last time I help a random person out. At least, not unless someone actually gives me a reason to help them out. Mai just showed up and she was clearly desperate for food and water. I, probably because I was going stir crazy, didn’t pick up on these signs at all. In that sense, this happening was my fault in the end.

With another sigh, I went over and sat down on my bed. Opening up my PC, I went into the folder where I kept my games, movies, novels, or rather, just where I stored my entertainment. Quickly, I was given a shock… It was all gone! What the flying fuck!?

I went back to the news section, and discovered that Grant had restricted all access to pretty much damn near everything that he could control. As Grant ruled this entire fucking world, that was mostly everything. Soon, he even said that our PCs would stop working as well.

What the hell will we do when that happens? Do people even own non-holographic devices these days? That is, not counting the ones we used for food and water. I didn’t even own a single pen or paper. Grant seemed content to either destroy his entire race, or at the very least, throw us into a savage stone age… With nothing to do, I fell back on my bed, and I forced myself to go to sleep…
