Chapter 57: Just a jealous rival

Chapter 57: Just a jealous rival

"Here, some pop tarts first." Qiu Wen fed Xue Ting a few as he made her hold on to him, noticing her flushed cheeks.

"Nice?" He asked as she leaned onto his chest and closed her eyes, trying to figure out the mixture's ingredients.

"Not bad. It's cream cheese. The sourness must be lemon which smoothens the taste giving it a refreshing feel. Try one." She said while facing him but still holding tightly on his waist afraid her wobbly self would give away her half-sober self.

He popped a few into his mouth and nodded.

"Hmmm, that's right. You're a baker after all." He praised.

"Now here something salty, the salmon one." He coaxed her to open her mouth and noticed she was nearly having a hard time opening her eyes.

"Do the twins always go for hiking trips?"

He asked trying to change the topic to distract her. He was trying to keep her mind active so that she would eat more. She nodded with her stuffed mouth. She quickly chewed and swallowed before taking a sip of juice which he handed over to her.

"Yes, they do. You seem to have grown closer to them faster than I expected." She praised him and was glad of it.

"Well, what can I say... I'm a naturally born dad." He chuckled as she rolled her eyes in disbelief.

"But am glad…" She stared into his glimmering eyes dotting on her.

"So am I. I have never imagined being this blissful." He popped another two tarts into her mouth.

"Thank you." He added before stealing a kiss on her lips and adding more tarts.

"Enough, enough. I'm too full to have any more pop tarts. Do you know how many have you fed me? Her eyes darted to the tray next to him." She could feel every time he fed her it was not just one but two to three which made it so challenging for her to chew.

"Oh no, don't tell me we both had half of the tray!" She squealed noticing the almost empty tray.

"Yes, we did." He laughed as she wobbled a little that he had to hold her tighter to avoid having her tripping.

She giggled at his discreet efforts but soon she noticed flashes of camera towards her.

"Yikes the flash is so bright." Xue Ting complained as he turned around to find a group of reporters hovering over them.

"Oh mine, didn't know we caught your attention." He said to them while he held Xue Ting closer to avoid her tripping again.

"Mr. Tang, if you don't mind we would like to have a brief interview with you both?" A reporter requested.

"Yikes, can we skip this Wen Wen? I'm not very sober." Xue Ting whispered.

"You will do fine, don't worry. It's an informal sort of interview." He comforted in his whispers.

"Sure, let's have a sit, shall we?" He pointed to an empty table nearby as he sturdily held Xue Ting by her waist and led her there.

"Your marriage news came in as a surprise to many of us months ago and since then you both have not been in the limelight. So, could you tell us how's your marriage life doing?" A reporter asked.

"Oh, it's been terrific. It's never a dull day with this beautiful lady beside me. I love how detailed she is about breakfast preparation especially when I love omelets while she loves poached eggs better. So she had to go the extra mile to heat up the pan with oil and make the omelets for me." Xue Ting was caught off guard at his eloquent self even in front of the reporters. Sounds of impressed reporters were heard in front of them.

"Wow, that's so sweet of Mrs. Tang. Mrs. Tang, what do you think of Mr. Tang's busy schedule? Wouldn't it be affecting both of you?" A female reporter asked.

Qiu Wen looked at her dotingly as he was prepared to answer but she gestured gently with her eyes that she would answer. "No, it hasn't. In fact, it's strengthening us even further. For example, I am here accompanying him after a long tiring day at work but just seeing him brightens my day more than ever." She answered it without taking her gaze off him. It was sincerely from the bottom of her heart and it ached Qiu Wen's heart to watch her endure her exhaustion.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

He smiled encouragingly as he caressed her cheeks. "How are your siblings doing? Are they really your siblings?" A reporter questioned as Qiu Wen's forehead crossed in frowns.

"Sorry folks time's up!" Qiu Wen announced in annoyance as the reporters fretted.

"Don't worry visit my restaurant I will give you more time…" Xue Ting offered upon listening to their disappointment as the reporters cheered happily thereafter.

Qiu Wen quickly dragged Xue Ting away from the crowd and headed to their room still annoyed at the question earlier. Upon hearing the lock of the door, Xue Ting struggled to stand as Qiu Wen carried her petite body into his arms.

"Oh, you don't have to. Put me down." She said gently enduring her spinning head as she kept her eyes closed. "Sit here, don't move." He instructed.

He was sitting her on the dressing chair while filling up the bathtub before returning to carry her to the washroom.

"Oh… Let me. I will shower myself." She protested as he put her down. "Undress first." He instructed worrying she would fall but she was shy.

Upon noticing it, Qiu Wen then turned around. "I won't peek. I will leave when you're safely in the tub." He said as she quickly undressed and headed in.

The shower helped her to sober up a little. As she soaked for a while, she recalled Qiu Wen was still waiting for her so she quickly bathed instead. When she stepped out of the washroom, she caught him with the hair dryer waiting for her while dosing off on the dressing table.

She walked over and caressed his cheeks as he woke to sit her on the bed. She could not help but was fast asleep while he was drying her hair as always. He quickly tucked her in bed and headed to shower himself thereafter.

A moment later she could feel her body wrapped around Qiu Wen's arms. "Don't be too upset with the reporters." She comforted with her eyes closed knowing Qiu Wen had not fallen asleep.

Her sudden voice startled his thoughts as he kissed her forehead. "Don't give in to them either if they come visit you in the restaurant." He whispered as Xue Ting sighed knowing it was pointless to argue with him on this.

"Didn't know you had been singing praises of me?" She changed the topic not wanting to agitate him further.

"Hmm…" He did not know how to answer her as it was partly true that he had praised her art and a part of him did want her to join the company but he knew it was only his wishful thinking.

Xue Ting opened her eyes to meet his sad, disturbed gaze. "Have you always wanted to work with me?" She asked as he nodded. It made her feel a little sad as she caressed his face.

"It must be very tough with the politics around?" She questioned as he pulled her closer for a hug.

"Come to me for help whenever you need. I can listen to you whine. I can give you some advice. Oh, Qiu Qiu could too…"

"But you can't work with me side by side could you?" He asked longingly interrupting her as they paused a moment and looked into each other's gaze.

"You know how it is… And I don't think it's a good idea, especially with Francesca and your mother…" Xue Ting explained as he sighed and nodded understandingly.

"I know. It's just my wishful thinking." He mumbled as she kissed him, gently but longingly.

"Know that I am always here for you…" She whispered as he kissed her forehead and let her snuggle into his arms while he coaxed her to sleep, feeling grateful.

The next day, Francesca was excited that the news would be covering her inauguration. Though her ceremony was cut short by an unexpected arrangement made by Qiu Wen, at least she still enjoyed the night with Alfred in bed. As Alfred stirred awake, he wanted to pull her in for a hug only for her to be angered.

"How could the press be covering the news of them more than my inauguration? This is ridiculous! I'm going to use the press against her!" She stormed off to wash up before Alfred could say anything but read the news over his phone as he went to get ready for the day.

They both had been in an open relationship since they first met through acquaintances in their college days and though he knew her ultimate catch was Qiu Wen, he did not mind the state of their relationship as long as Francesca was happy.

Qiu Wen and Xue Ting were awake by a call from Jia Yi. As Qiu Wen picked up the call and only acknowledged with a hum, Xue Ting opened her eyes in suspicions as she could tell something was wrong.

"Morning…" He kissed her forehead trying to make her frown away.

"What's going on?" She questioned as he snuggled her closer to him.

"Wen Wen?" She asked again worriedly as he sighed in defeat.

"Can't you just stay with me without worrying for a short while?" He pleaded while burying himself in her arms and closed his eyes, dreading to face all the drama from his mother and Francesca.

She caressed his face dotingly. "What's wrong? Let me find out myself." She asked gently as she reached out for her mobile only to be caught by his arms.

"You made a great show last night and stole the limelight from Ms. Sales and Marketing Director. Bet she wouldn't be happy about it and we would be flooded with reporters everywhere for the day. So, I was thinking of heading back to the family house and letting my mother handle them." He chuckled as she was taken by surprise.

He stole a kiss while she was slowly registering all that he just said.

"No. I want to brave it. Well, after all, I promised them a session at my restaurant. Besides, if they are too much, I can always call the authorities of business obstruction…" She smiled as he chuckled at her clever mind.

"Are you sure?" He asked as she nodded confidently. "I wasn't wrong about you Mrs. Little Tang." He teased her before sharing a lingering kiss.
