Over the weekend, Xue Ting was caught up with events as it was a busy period in the summer. Usually, she would sleep over in the hotel after a very late night. That made Matthew a little restless often especially if she did not call home. Joy as usual was oblivious and busy with her orders which made Matthew feel a little tired always looking out for the ladies sometimes.
What he did not know was Qiu Wen too was restless as he paced in his room unable to sleep without Xue Ting anymore at night. He began to miss her as he stepped out of his room and heard a soft acoustic melody coming from Matthew's room.
Matthew was distracting himself from worrying about Xue Ting so he decided to concentrate on creating a new piece. Qiu Wen knocked on Matthew's door but Matthew could not hear him with his headphones. Qiu Wen then opened the door a little to peep at his son.
When Matthew finally noticed he had a spectator, he smiled and welcomed Qiu Wen in.
"Sorry, I didn't hear you…" Matthew said as he took off his headphones. Qiu Wen shook his head. "Nevermind. Good melody. Composing something new?" Qiu Wen casually asked as he read the notes. "Yes. Would you like to try?" Matthew asked as Qiu Wen gave it a go and added his own rendition which made Matthew instantly take down the notes. To Matthew's surprise, they end up composing the song together.
Even then, there were still no signs of Xue Ting being home or even a phone call. Qiu Wen noticed Matthew's annoyance. "Worried about your mother?" Qiu Wen asked as Matthew blinked in surprise at being too obvious. He nodded.
"I have a feeling she will be sleeping in the hotel since it's this late. But she hasn't called. She usually will no matter how hectic or tiring it is. I guess the event must have run late." Matthew explained as he sulked a little.
"Don't worry anymore. I will make sure to accompany her the next time she has events. I will keep her in check. Go ahead and sleep. I will make sure she is safe." Qiu Wen urged as Matthew reluctantly agreed and headed to bed as Qiu Wen tucked him into bed.
He then went to his room and spammed calls to Xue Ting. The conversation with Matthew sense his anxiety shooting high up with every call he made.
She was indeed very busy with new orders and by the time she headed to her hotel room sponsored by the event, she was exhausted. She checked her mobile to find the battery was nearly flat. She quickly gave it a charge and noticed all the messages and missed calls.
She replied to the twins first about her whereabouts and told them to head to sleep as she would be back the next morning. Right after, she wanted to reply to Qiu Wen only to be intercepted by a phone call.
"Hello?" She chirped shyly over the line as she heard Qiu Wen clearing his throat.
"So, tell me who is not home yet?" Qiu Wen pretended to sound very upset as Xue Ting laughed.
"Me… I'm sorry for not telling earlier. I am sleeping over at the hotel tonight. It's rather late. You should rest too." She giggled as Qiu Wen smiled to himself.
"I will make sure I make it to all these events to accompany you…" He promised as Xue Ting was smitten.
"Do you know how worried especially Matthew was when you didn't reply to him?" He said which made Xue Ting a little guilty as she hummed in reply.

"Don't do that again. No, even then you won't have a chance. I will make sure I accompany you from now on." He said as Xue Ting giggled again.
"Alright, my dearest husband. I shall listen to you though I don't know how you would be able to make it to all the weekend events. Now, just for tonight, rest early and I will see you all in the morning alright?" She persuaded as Qiu Wen smiled even more at the sound of her calling him husband. He instantly changed the call to a video call and she accepted it.
She was smiling happily at him. "Happy now? You have seen me and I really need some sleep." She said as she yawned. He instantly regretted ever putting on a video call cause he wanted to drive all the way to her hotel and be right next to her.
"Which hotel is it? What room number are you staying in?" He asked as she chuckled.
"Why? Paranoid? I'm in Jessle Hotel. Nearby your office Wen Wen. It's room 832. See…" She showed him the room card as he made a mental note of it before flashing a mischievous smile but she was too tired to notice his expression as she yawned again.
"Alright, well speaking of which there is an inauguration party coming up soon for that incompetent lady. I'm sure you had an order for it in the next few days at the same hotel?" He teased as Xue Ting tried to think of her next few days' agenda before she gasped. "Oh yes, Francesca's inauguration. You would need to be there don't you?" She said as she raised an eyebrow while he nodded forcefully with quickly flashed her a mischievous smile.
"Would you be my date, Mrs. Tang?" He teased as she giggled and tilted her head. "I'm practically there you know." She replied lazily knowing if they both had a choice they would not want to be there.
"Alright, go ahead and get ready for bed." He urged as she nodded.
"I love you." She said as she sent flying kisses to him before hanging up.
At that rate, Qiu Wen gave up the urge to stop himself from driving to her. It was an hour's trip after all to the hotel in Wai Tao as he sent text messages to the twins informing them of his trip. As Xue Ting loved taking a long shower after a tiring day, by the time she got out of the shower to dry her hair, Qiu Wen was already on the way to her room at the lift.
The sudden ringing of the bell startled her as she went to peep at the door and squealed when she saw him. She opened the door, surprised and glad to see him as she hugged him excitedly.
"Oh, I am so dumb. I shouldn't have told you my room number and all. You shouldn't be here. You should be sleeping!" Xue Ting whined as Qiu Wen stepped into her room and closed the door behind him before pulling her in for a kiss.
"I can't sleep without you by my side, sweetie. Besides, the kids are worried about you. It's only right for me to ensure your safety as promised to them and I promised them I will accompany you to all events if possible." He whispered when they briefly broke away as he held her tight in his arms while watching her tired face. He kissed her gently again before helping her to dry her hair.
Like old times, he knew she would fall asleep while at it. He then quietly carried her to bed and slept with her for the night as she clung to him the entire night. He breathed a sigh of relief for finally being able to sleep at ease again.
The next morning, Joy was making breakfast when Xue Ting came back with Qiu Wen in a haste to change to prepare for her early shift.
"Mummy, you're home!" She greeted as Xue Ting flew to give her a kiss on her cheeks before rushing upstairs without a word. Joy was a little upset but when she noticed Qiu Wen who was putting down Xue Ting's belongings, she skipped over, ready to tease him.
"Looks like someone was a great husband last night…" Joy giggled which reminded Qiu Wen of the identical giggle both mother and daughter shared. He pinched her nose lightly.
"So, what did my daughter reward me with for such a good job last night?" He played along as she led her to the dining table and saw the spread of sumptuous toast, eggs, and yogurt.
"Hmm… not bad. Alright, thank you for the meal. I shall enjoy it with gratefulness." He complimented as he took a seat sending Joy into laughter when Matthew headed downstairs.
"Morning…" He greeted in confusion of the entire situation as he noticed his mother's belongings were in the living room and knew she must be home.
"Hey, boy! Come sit. Your sister prepared this." Qiu Wen urged while Joy joined them at the table.
"Mummy's home?" Matthew asked as Joy nodded. "Oh yes! Thanks to Daddy for escorting her last night. So, this is his reward!" Joy cheered as she gave one of her omelets to Qiu Wen who then returned it to her.
"Don't worry. I have enough. You're still growing up. Eat more!" Qiu Wen said leaving Matthew more at ease of leaving his mother into Qiu Wen's hands moving forward as he enjoyed breakfast with them and Xue Ting who joined in hastily after her brief shower.
"Don't be in a hurry! Eat and chew properly!" Joy scolded Xue Ting who gobbled down toast with her favorite poached eggs. She then tried to say she was running late only to make some incoherent noise sending everyone laughing as she quickly swallowed but choked.
Qiu Wen hit her back lightly as she drank her tea. "Slowly… Slowly. I can send you." Qiu Wen offered as Xue Ting shook her head.
"No, done. I'm running late and you must tired from the drive. Make sure you sleep in. I will see you all if you do drop by for lunch." Xue Ting said before rushing off to get her belongings.
"Mummy! We will be out with our friends later…" Joy shouted as Xue Ting made an okay sign with her fingers before putting on her shoes and driving off to work.
Joy sighed as Qiu Wen patted her shoulder. "Finish breakfast and get ready to head out. I will go over to the restaurant to keep her company." Qiu Wen comforted as Matthew nodded.
"She is always very busy in summer and we barely could catch her," Matthew said as he munched on his sandwich. "At least she has you now." Joy smiled as everyone agreed adamantly with a nod.
