"Sicily, Bro… What happened? You should rest Sicily." Dan said worriedly as he helped her to sit on the bench.
"She had some gastric pangs but will be fine after finishing this drip. She was worried that Brisbane would be upset not seeing her here." Qiu Wen explained as he sat with her and let her lean on him.
"Sicily you don't have to… Sorry. So sorry." Dan couldn't help but felt so bad as Xue Ting waved her hand indicating it was alright. Dan then paced while Qiu Wen sat together quietly with Xue Ting. Xue Ting slowly felt the gastric was going away. Feeling tired, she naturally drifted asleep in Qiu Wen's arms.
A short while later, the door of the psychiatrist's room finally opened and Brisbane ran out happily. She saw Xue Ting was still waiting for her though she had fallen asleep. She skipped happily over to her to hold onto her hand.
"Mummy! Mummy! I did many colorings! Look!" Brisbane's cheerfulness relieved Dan and Qiu Wen's worries as Xue Ting woke up feeling very moved though still weak.
"Hey, sweetie… Aww, that's really pretty!" Xue Ting praised as she look at several of her art which Brisbane then explained that she drew Pam, Dan, and herself while on another were the twins, Qiu Wen, herself, and Brisbane.
Xue Ting traced the art as she beamed looking at Brisbane. "What did you just call me?" Xue Ting felt like it was time to finally put an acknowledgment to it.
"Mummy…" She happily called her before burrowing into her belly and hugging her.
"Brisbane, are you sure you want to call me mummy?" She asked as Brisbane looked up at her and nodded while touching her face.
"My pretty mummy…" She giggled as Xue Ting hugged her with tears in her eyes.
Xue Ting had never thought she would hear another little one calling her that after her twins as she knew it would be difficult for her to sustain a healthy pregnancy knowing that her uterus lining was thin after so many complications in her last pregnancy. It meant a lot for her to have Brisbane willingly call her that as she was filled with so much gratitude.
The nurse and psychiatrist then asked for an adult to listen to her consultation as Dan went in while Qiu Wen watched over them both.
"She had always wanted to call you that for a long time. I told her to ask her mum first. So, it's only right if you let her now." Qiu Wen told Xue Ting as she smiled and leaned onto his shoulder with Brisbane sitting on her lap.
"What's that?" Brisbane asked curiously pointing to her drip.
"Your mummy had a tummyache 'cause she didn't eat. She has to finish this drip first before she can go." Qiu Wen explained as Brisbane took out a teddy candy from her pocket and gave it to Xue Ting.
"Quick mummy! Eat this then your tummy won't ache anymore." Brisbane urged sending Qiu Wen and Xue Ting chuckling.

Xue Ting took it from her and kissed her forehead. "Thank you, baby."
Xue Ting could feel her drip was almost done as she took out the needle. "Could you sit with her here? I think I should speak with Pam." Xue Ting whispered to Qiu Wen who was close to her face as he nodded.
"You're sure you're alright to go alone?" He whispered back as she nodded while looking into his eyes. He smiled and let go of her as he gently carried Brisbane over to his lap.
"Sweetie, mummy needs to head to the washroom. Come over and sit with me awhile alright?" Qiu Wen coaxed. "If only you let me call you daddy too like Joy and Matthew." Brisbane pouted leaving Qiu Wen a little taken aback.
"Do I also need to ask my daddy for permission? If Sicily is my mummy then you are my daddy too. Daddy…Daddy…" Brisbane whined as Xue Ting tried to calm her down.
"Baby, then what about Dan?" Xue Ting asked as Brisbane thought awhile.
"Hmm… Daddy Dan and Daddy Ryan! I have two daddies. I like that…" Brisbane clapped her hand happily as Xue Ting looked at Qiu Wen, not knowing what to do.
"Sweetie, come over and sit with me first. We shall ask your mummy if she is alright with it first." Qiu Wen coaxed as Brisbane finally nodded and let him carry her over before Xue Ting quickly walked away.
Xue Ting then entered the ward to find Pam staring out blankly to herself as though thinking about many things in her mind.
"Hi, Pam…" Xue Ting greeted as Pam shifted to look at Xue Ting and smiled.
"Sicily…" She called out meaningfully as she held Xue Ting's hand.
"How're you feeling?" Xue Ting asked gently.
"Better. Thanks…" Pam replied politely.
"Pam, would you mind if I bring Brisbane to visit a preschool nearby tomorrow or would you like to come along after you're well?" Xue Ting asked as Pam smiled.
"You may bring her and let Dan know how much is all the registration. We will reimburse you back." Pam said feeling a little embarrassed.
"Don't worry about that. Get well first. We will be waiting for you." Xue Ting comforted as Pam's eyes reddened. She finally understood the reason her baby girl grew fond of Xue Ting so easily.
"Sicily, words cannot express how much I want to thank you for taking such good care of my baby girl. I really had never seen her this happy. From birth, she was not that fortunate and I know she always crave for family's love. I just didn't expect she was this blessed. So, thank you, Sicily." Pam said on the verge of tearing up as Xue Ting gently patted her shoulder.
"You're most welcome Pam. In fact, I could tell just from how willingly she wanted to call me mummy and she was bargaining with me to call Ryan and Dan daddy. I am not in the position to decide so we got her to ask you." Xue Ting held her hand and smiled as she noticed Pam looked sad.
"From now on, if you need any help just say. We are all here for you. When will you be discharged? Come stay with us. I prepared the guest room long ago." Xue Ting said trying to distract her and let the topic be a passing one.
Pam was so touched that she sobbed in Xue Ting's arms while hugging her. "Thank you… Thank you so much… I definitely would agree for her to have so many wonderful people to be her stepfamily." Pam said in between her sobs as Xue Ting smiled and gently patted her.
"If you truly want to thank us, stay healthy and strong for your little baby." Xue Ting coaxed as Pam nodded.
"Now, stop crying. Little Brisbane should be here anytime soon. She did some coloring in the session. Let's let her tell us all about it?" Xue Ting comforted as Pam chuckled and nodded.
Dan stood outside listening in to the ladies' conversation as he was relieved that Xue Ting had helped him resolve many matters which wasn't convenient for him to fix with Pam.
"Don't worry, she is still with Ryan," Dan said as he stepped into the room to join the ladies.
"Oh, you're back. How's the discussion with the psychiatrist?" Xue Ting asked as Dan blinked before he sighed.
"She was trying to get Brisbane to express herself through art and she seemed to be drawing a lot about what happened recently at your place instead of what happened last week. The psychiatrist tried to ask her if she was afraid or worried about Pam or what happened and…" Dan paused to catch his breath.
Pam knew the answer as she sighed. "She would say if it wasn't raining and thundering, she would be alright."
"How did you know that? Oh…" Dan asked surprisingly but forgotten she was after all Brisbane's mother.
"Cause she had grown up in such an environment and thunder to her was the scariest thing. She would cry hiding in cupboards. Probably cause the first time this abusive situation ever happened was when I found her in a cupboard shivering after the entire thing was over." Pam forced herself to not cry as she looked down on her lap.
Xue Ting's gaze met with Dan's as she then realised how serious it was. She gently patted Pam's shoulder to comfort her as she contemplated suggesting she seek counseling as she was afraid Pam might think she was too meddling since they had just met.
Dan stood watching both ladies as he gave her a questioning look with an eyebrow raised, knowing she had concerns. She shook her head discreetly but Dan didn't want to give up.
"What is it? You could just tell us. Don't worry." Dan coaxed as Xue Ting blushed embarrassingly.
"I was just thinking… I hope you don't get me wrong as being too busybody. I just wanted to…" Xue Ting was interrupted by Pam who patted her hand.
"Please don't feel that way. Just tell us anything." Pam coaxed too as Xue Ting thought for a moment still hesitating a little.
