Chapter 32: Feels so good to have a wife

As Qiu Wen rushed home to his little family without knowing about the deal, he wondered if they had all slept since it had already passed Brisbane's bedtime. True enough, he found all of them were watching a cartoon movie in his room on his bed, asleep as he quickly went to the guest room and showered.

When he returned to his room, he went to tuck Joy's hand into the blanket when Xue Ting stirred in her sleep and opened her eyes to see him telling her to keep very quiet. She nodded as he pointed to the guest room. She then slowly shifted Brisbane to her side before he reached out to carry her off the bed to the guest room instead.

"You're home… Everything went well?" She asked casually when he put her down in bed in the guest room. He sat in bed with her with a worried face.

"What's wrong?" She asked noticing grimaces. He held her hands in his and noticed how dandy were her long fingers as he caressed them gently.

"I just came from an engagement dinner discussion with the Wei's. Ting Ting, I…" He sighed as she hugged him subconsciously to comfort him.

"I'm here. Tell me." She comforted as she let him off her hug.

"I really hate my mother for doing this. I thought with our marriage, she would have given up trying to seal the betroth but she is still pushing the idea. I don't know what to do, Ting Ting. I know our contract… it's six months… I wouldn't hold you back with this. You may leave when the time is up. Don't get me wrong, Ting Ting. I am not asking you to leave or that…" He struggled to explain anymore to her as he was getting confused about his own points. However, Xue Ting understood just what he meant as she held his hands.

"I promise. I will be by your side. It hasn't been bugging me or troubling me but you have helped me a lot especially financially. I should help you in return even if six months is up and I can't stay by your side, I will try to help you as much I can." She comforted him knowing he just needed some moral support while being lost as he gently pull her into his hug.

"What would I do without you, Ting Ting? Since young, you had always been a problem solver. How could I be such a useless person?" He said as Xue Ting let go of his hug.

"You're not useless Qiu Wen. You're of great help to many people. Don't let a small portion of failure destroy your confidence." She caressed his tired face.

Qiu Wen smiled as he said sincerely. "Thank you…"

Xue Ting smiled satisfyingly that he felt better. "Let's go to bed. We would need to bring little Brisbane to finally visit her mother."

"Yes about that… Dan mentioned he had a psychiatrist session arranged for Brisbane as well. I am rather worried she might be very emotional." Qiu Wen said as Xue Ting thought for a moment.

"She might or she might not since she had learned to hide her stress. I was thinking if Pam would want to stay here, I could help with their meals and daily needs provided you don't mind cause that way we could keep an eye on both mother and daughter while Dan gets busy with work. Considering Pam's situation, I don't think her ex-husband's side could find out where they are staying easily if they are here?" Qiu Wen thought about it and agreed.

"That should be a good idea. Let me text Dan and ask him." He said wanting to tell Xue Ting about Brisbane's wish but while typing away his message to Dan, it slipped his mind.

Xue Ting chuckled realising she was in the guest room's bed when she peep at the door. "Sorry, I shouldn't let them watch the cartoon on your bed. It's taken for the night.." She apologised as Qiu Wen laughed.

"That's fine. We will just sleep here." He smiled watching Xue Ting lay by his side as he quickly finish typing his message to Dan and lay by her side, holding onto her hand.

Dan was helping Pam with a glass of water when he received a text message from Qiu Wen offering for them both to stay in his place when Pam was discharged. He sighed absentmindedly as he had never thought of what was next yet.

"What is it? Trouble with your business? You know you don't have to worry about me since I am already recovering and he would not dare to come and cause chaos here as we are in the vicinity of the public…" Pam explained as Dan held her hand.

"Are you always this selfless with him?" He daringly asked about her soon-to-be ex-husband since they were on the topic but he regretted it the next moment noting her weary reaction.

"It wasn't anything about my business though yes, I have some issues but I am waiting for the other party to respond. It's actually about you." He explained as Pam looked at him with an eyebrow raised.

"Qiu Wen and his wife offered us to live with them awhile after you get discharged. It's at Cravine. A little outskirt, but it would be a great place to give you some time to sort out things and prevent his family or himself from being able to harass you." Dan said as Pam was a little surprised at the offer.

Dan let her ponder for a moment as he straightened out some crease by her blanket. Pam did want to try to take up the offer but she was worried about bothering others.

"I… I couldn't decide. Will it trouble them? Don't they need to work? Don't you need to work too?" Pam questioned as Dan smiled.

"Just don't worry about the others. I will be there too. I could look after you and Brisbane. Told you, I am waiting for a response and so happened the other party is in Cravine too. Made my job much easier actually." Dan said as Pam smiled a little.

"But…" Pam wanted to clarify more when Dan stood to sit by her side in bed as he held her.

"No more buts Ms. Zhao. Either that or you stay with me alone in my Wai Tao's apartment first?" Dan knew she wouldn't agree to the latter as she blushed.

"I… I could give it a try…" She stuttered as Dan decided to tease her a little.

"To which option?" Dan raised an eyebrow at her.

"To… to… Cravine!" Pam said as she quickly hide inside her blanket while blushing.

She could hear Dan chuckling as he gently combed her hair. "I was just pulling your leg. I will let Brisbane stay with you wherever you are. I am fine even if your feelings don't reciprocate to mine. I'm sorry for confessing at the wrong time. You and Brisbane deserve better, Pam." He comforted her as he stood from the side of the bed.

"Get some rest… I will go refill some water." He said as an excuse to give her space while she took a peep when she heard the door open and closed. Pam couldn't help but smile to herself as she pondered on their lost time and love on whether should she really give it a try this time.

The next morning, Xue Ting woke up really early as she baked some maple buns for breakfast. While busy in the kitchen with both puppies trailing her around, she didn't notice Brisbane was awake and was standing by a corner waiting to be noticed.

The puppies upon seeing Brisbane, ran to her as she squatted to hug and pat them both. Xue Ting upon noticing the puppies were distracted then turned to see Brisbane was attending to the puppies with so much love.

"Oh, sweetie! You're awake! Good morning!" Xue Ting chirped happily while making the last few doughs of buns.

"Morning… mummy…" She mumbled a little softer at the last word but Xue Ting could still hear her. Xue Ting turnaround a little to see her with a smile as Brisbane then bravely walked over to her and hugged her around her neck after knowing Xue Ting was not angry.

"Sorry sweetie. My hands are a little dirty. Let me wash them first alright?" Xue Ting crouched to look at her as Brisbane nodded.

"We should head to the shower first down here and quickly get ready to visit your mummy alright?" Xue Ting coaxed her to let go of her. "Mum…" Brisbane corrected as Xue Ting nodded.

"Yes, your mum…" Xue Ting agreed but Brisbane still didn't let her go.

Qiu Wen who was awake from the fragrance of the first batch of maple bun wafting upstairs quickly got out of bed as he knew they had to visit the hospital before he headed for a late afternoon work meeting. However, the fragrant smell made him go downstairs catching Brisbane not wanting to let go of Xue Ting.

"Sweetie, are you sure you can hold on tight as I wash my hands if I carry you up? Otherwise, you should let go for a moment. I promise to carry you later after I wash my hands?" Xue Ting tried to bargain but Brisbane pouted.

"Sweetie, morning!" Qiu Wen helped out as he stepped in and Brisbane instantly let go of her arms as she ran into Qiu Wen's hug. Qiu Wen carried her up as Xue Ting quickly washed her hands and took out the first batch of buns before putting the next one in.

"Smells so good! I can't wait to try it! What are they?" Qiu Wen asked both of them as Brisbane lay quietly on his chest.

"Maple buns…" Xue Ting said as she mumbled thank you to him when Brisbane wasn't looking. Qiu Wen smiled. "Alright, Brisbane, playtime in the shower! Come, let's go prepare." Xue Ting said as she carried her from Qiu Wen.

"When the twins are down, get them to have some before they leave. Let them take the bus today so that you don't have to rush." Xue Ting said as Qiu Wen shook her head while attempting to steal a bun that was still scorching hot.

"Careful! It's still very hot!" Xue Ting scolded as he successfully stuffed some bits into his mouth and put his thumb up as Xue Ting rolled her eyes.

"Oh, mine... This is so nice! Don't worry, I will drive them. I will shower downstairs. Head on and shower her upstairs. Go…" He urged as Xue Ting was helpless that he was just the same as the twins. She shook her head remembering the twins did take after him after all as she obediently obliged to go upstairs.

"Feels so good to have a wife… and a family…" Qiu Wen thought to himself as he ate more of the maple buns while looking out the sunny weather outside the kitchen window.
