Chapter 49: Dan's supportive little minion

Chapter 49: Dan's supportive little minion

Qiu Wen stormed off while Xue Ting wanted to chase after him but thought it was best to also bring Brisbane along. Xue Ting could tell the couple was in need of a talk with each other. Brisbane was already heading towards her.

"Mummy… Can you tell Daddy Ryan to not be angry? Daddy Dan is sick and is not his fault." Brisbane pleaded. Xue Ting felt bad as she squatted to pat her head.

"Honey, why don't you tell him yourself later? Let's go pack up some stuff and bring the dogs along to see Matthew and Joy. We should let Daddy Dan rest too isn't it?" Xue Ting asked as Brisbane nodded before turning to Dan.

"Daddy, rest more. I will ask Daddy Ryan to forgive you." Brisbane said as Dan blinked back his tears.

"Thank you, sweetheart. I will get well quickly to bring you home alright?" Dan held out his finger to make a promise to Brisbane before she went to Pam and gave her a hug.

"Thank you…" Dan said weakly to Xue Ting who nodded with an assuring smile.

"Stay here and take care of him. I will look after the bakery too." Xue Ting told Pam as she walked over to her. Pam was on the verge of protesting while standing up only to be stopped by Xue Ting.

"Don't. Let me. I have the twins and there's your baker too. We will be fine." Xue Ting assured leaving Pam with no choice but to oblige with a grateful smile. "Thank you… I'm sorry for having to trouble you always." Pam apologised as Xue Ting held her hand and patted it.

"If you want forgiveness, make sure you take good care of this guy. It would keep my husband happy and so will all of us." Xue Ting was half teasing as Pam smiled briefly before sending off Brisbane with Xue Ting.

After they left, Dan held Pam's hand but she quickly took them away. "I will head outside to take some water." She made up an excuse as she scurried away quickly with a flask.

She let her emotional self out by the stairway for a moment, realising how much she actually still cared for Dan the same way she did back then but she had been hiding behind her fear of being in another relationship after all that she had been through. At least, she was convinced she still had feelings for him and losing him again would definitely put a toll on her.

Xue Ting then led Brisbane hastily at the lobby to look for Qiu Wen who was pacing in front of the hospital's main entrance.

"Daddy Ryan!" Brisbane greeted gleefully as she ran to him who was ready to carry her up in his arms.

"Hello, sweetie!" He smiled and gave her a peck but she tried to stop him to plead for forgiveness on behalf of Dan. Qiu Wen could only listen in with occasional chuckles while holding onto Xue Ting's hand as they walked to the car.

"Do you hear me, Daddy Ryan? Forgive Daddy Dan. He is sick and it is not his fault!" By the time Qiu Wen was handing her over to Xue Ting, Brisbane was agitated that she did not get the response she wanted. She then fumed when Qiu Wen was on his way to the driver's seat.

"Calm down, Brisbane. Let's give Daddy Ryan some time alright? He is tired and we have to drive back to pick your dogs up before sending some clothes to your mum." Xue Ting comforted as Brisbane took some time trying to understand their situation but it was too hard for her to comprehend.

She stared angrily at Qiu Wen who entered the driver's seat and patted her head before starting the car. She made a hump sound as she looked to the other side, sulking all the way in Xue Ting's arms.

Xue Ting gave Qiu Wen a comforting smile as they went on with their errands before heading home. By the time they stepped into the house, the twins who were waiting up were surprised to see Brisbane in Xue Ting's arms asleep while the two dogs scurried into their home excitedly.

"Mummy, what happened? Another assault?" Matthew asked worriedly as Xue Ting shook her head. He quickly helped to carry Brisbane who stirred in her arms and was happy to see Matthew. Brisbane leaped into his arms and hugged him. "Matthew! Oh, Joy!" She greeted half excitedly and groggily at the twins as Joy giggled and kissed her forehead.

"What happened, mummy?" Joy demanded an answer this time as she went to help Xue Ting unpack.

"Nothing much to worry about. It's just Uncle Dan being hospitalised for insulin issues." Xue Ting said while sorting out Brisbane's bag.

"Oh no, is it very serious?" Joy asked as Qiu Wen who was taking some time to take out his shoes and socks, stormed upstairs in agitation.

The twins were stunned by his action as Xue Ting explained briefly the situation while Joy continued to unpack. Xue Ting then went to carry Brisbane to shower. "Don't worry. Uncle Dan is recovering. Your daddy…" Xue Ting let out a sharp sigh as Brisbane began her protest and pleads again, defending Dan.

"Joy, can you tell Daddy Ryan that Daddy Dan is sick and is not his fault? Matthew, can you tell…" Xue Ting kissed Brisbane to interrupt her.

"Little girl, it's time to shower first. Just let Daddy Ryan calm down first alright? He will forgive your Daddy Dan. Don't worry…" Xue Ting comforted as she carried her who was still protesting upstairs to shower. Matthew shook his head, amused as he helped to bring the bags upstairs leaving Joy thinking to find Qiu Wen.

Joy knocked on the study room's door after preparing a cup of milk and some cookies as Qiu Wen opened it. Joy smiled sweetly. "Room service!" Qiu Wen chuckled as Joy stepped in.

"Here, you must be hungry. Have something first." Joy led him to sit on the chair as he took a sip of the milk while Joy massaged his shoulders.

"Ahhh… It's so good to have children." Qiu Wen said in relief as Joy chuckled.

"Are you sure after having a little Uncle Dan's minion bugging you earnestly for forgiveness on his behalf?" Qiu Wen laughed and sighed sharply.

"It's not that I didn't. I just …" Qiu Wen went speechless for a moment.

"I understand. It's normal to be angry and worry you say the wrong thing. What Uncle Dan did was very wrong. I am sure he will realise it since he had a very supportive little minion." Joy comforted as she hugged Qiu Wen.

"You have me and Matthew too to support you always. Not forgetting mummy too. Have you been going on secret dates hmm?" Joy teased as Qiu Wen chuckled.

"Yes, but she made me not to tell first. So be careful of what you say else I will return an eye for an eye by revealing not only your secret driving lessons but also your secret handicraft business." Qiu Wen laughed when Joy tickled him as revenge till he surrender.

The next few days, Xue Ting had been busy at Pam's bakery, either baking or tallying the cash till for the day. Though she had hired a part-timer as a cashier, she still had to come by daily to close up. The twins took over her duties in Jang's Cove after school and also look after Brisbane.

Dan's condition began to improve rapidly with Pam's constant care that he was discharged two days earlier but Pam still refused to let him talk anything unnecessarily about that night incident. Besides, Dan had always been asleep due to fatigue. Despite so, Xue Ting decided to keep Brisbane with her to let Pam have more time to care for Dan and to let him rest more.

After getting off the phone with Xue Ting and Brisbane, Pam sat in the living room looking in the kitchen direction. While recalling the scene of Dan collapsing over and over, she did not realise tears were welling as she let the fear of losing Dan captivate her.

Dan was watching her from the corner of the steps as he slowly made his way to her. Upon noticing him in the living room, she quickly wiped her tears away only to be held into his arms. The warmness of his sturdy hug radiated even more of her agony as she leaned into him and let out a sob.

"I'm sorry Pam. I have been wanting to tell you so. You or Brisbane don't deserve this…" Dan apologised as Pam lifted her head to look at him as her eyes twinkled, a little confused.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have told you about the confession or given you any hope…" Dan apologised further as Pam's heartache, finally understanding he was trying to push her away.

She let her tears flow as he wiped them away.
