Chapter 37: Snowbell

Chapter 37: Snowbell

Pam had never thought Violet was all along enduring the cruel family of their husbands. As Violet began to calm down, she then thought of both mother and daughter's welfare.

"Where will you be staying? Here, with the Tangs?" Violet asked with concern as she wiped her tears away.

"With my friend. Don't worry, I will also be working for him. Dan, he was my university senior. Qiu Wen and Xue Ting are his close acquaintances. We are only temporarily staying here till this little one settles in school." Pam explained.

"Uncle Dan is a great daddy, grandma! He can protect us!" Brisbane cheered leaving Violet smiling a little at her adorableness as she patted her head.

"Good girl… Is school fun?" Violet asked as Brisbane nodded and jumped around her happily.

"Grandma is so sorry for all that grandma had done…" Violet apologise as Brisbane looked at her face and helped to wipe her tears away. Violet couldn't help but hug her in her arms when Dan barged into the house suddenly.

"Pam, Brisbane! You're alright?" Dan asked while panicking only to see them peacefully talking with Violet in the living room.

"We are alright…" Pam chuckled as she walked over to him and held his hand, leading him to meet Violet.

"Come, let me introduce you to my mother-in-law. This is Violet. Mother, meet my university senior whom I mentioned, Dan Pang." Violet stood to admire Dan's physique and knew the reason Pam was so assured about him.

"Thank you… Thank you for protecting my two precious…" Violet couldn't control herself from tearing up as Dan was a little confused. All he knew was that Violet used to be a wicked grandmother but the situation seems to be on the contrary.

"Mother, if you need help with your divorce, let us know. Dan would be able to help with his lawyer friends. But I am worried about your safety, mother." Pam said to give Dan some clarity as Violet patted her hand to comfort her.

"Don't worry, I have shifted back to stay with my sister temporarily." Violet updated as Pam still looked worried.

As Dan began to comprehend the situation a little, he patted Pam's shoulder to comfort her instead. "If you would like, you can drop by to see them anytime when they are in Wai Tao. I will let Pam send you the address." Dan said to Violet as Violet smiled looking at him gratefully.

"Thank you. Thank you. You're too kind, Mr. Pang…" Violet said as Dan shook his head.

"Call me Dan." He smiled as Violet nodded.

"You're in good hands, my dear… I am so glad." Violet told Pam who was equally grateful towards Dan.

"Help me take good care of them. I will fight alongside you for their freedom from that evil family." Violet said as Dan nodded.

"Let me know if you need legal help too," Dan said as Violet smiled.

"I will. I already have. If you don't mind, I can let them handle hers too. After all, we are of the same family." Violet said as Dan looked at Pam who nodded instantly.

"Alright, as long as Pam agrees," Dan said as the ladies smiled.

Brisbane then tugged on Violet's shirt. "Grandma, keep this. It's made by Joy for me but Grandma can keep it. You will always remember me." Brisbane said as she gave Violet a sky blue handkerchief with Brisbane's name on it which Joy sew for her.

"Awww, it's very pretty, sweetie… Thank you, Brisbane." Violet squatted to hug Brisbane as Dan and Pam smiled watching them. A part of the heavy burden Pam was holding on to all this while felt like they were lifted up finally that evening.

As Matthew finished his performance he quickly went over to Qiu Wen, recognising his worried look after being close to him for the past few months.

"What happened?" Matthew asked as Qiu Wen help him carry his stuff and pulled him out of the bar.

"Quick, let's get your sister. Pam's mother-in-law is in the house and they are not on good terms from what I know. I have sent Dan home first. Hurry, let's head home too!" Qiu Wen urged as Matthew had already called Joy's number only to not be answered.

"Yes, what is it?" Joy called out from behind them with her hands full of her materials from shopping.

"I couldn't pick up your call…" Before she could finish her sentence, Matthew had helped her with her bags and dragged her home. As the trio half ran and half jogged home, Qiu Wen was explaining the situation to Joy on the way.

By the time they reached home, Violet had already left quite some time, leaving Pam to explain the situation to Dan while Brisbane fell asleep.

"Is everything alright?! Where's Ting Ting?" Qiu Wen questioned the moment they all stepped home in a rush.

"Don't worry! Don't worry! She is in that room…" Dan chuckled while pointing to the music room which Qiu Wen had let Xue Ting use as an art room. They all left their stuff down while Xue Ting opened the door, wanting to head to the washroom.

"Oh, you're all home. Where's …" Xue Ting wanted to ask about Violet but noticed Dan and Pam looked like they were in the midst of discussing something while Brisbane had fallen asleep.

"She has left," Pam said briefly as Xue Ting nodded.

"Babies, let's head out for a bit. Mummy needs to replenish some materials." Xue Ting quickly said while pushing the twins and Qiu Wen outside.

"Mummy! You already had your art materials shopped last week… Why would you need some more?" Joy whined as Xue Ting smacked her hand gently.

"Can't you read the situation, baby? They clearly need some space to talk." Xue Ting scolded as Joy finally realised it.

"Always so oblivious… serve you right, got scolded." Matthew teased her as Joy hooked her arm onto Matthew's arm and tickled him before they ended up giggling together.

"The weather is so nice…Come, let's stroll for a bit." Xue Ting suggested when she let the twins walk ahead to Qiu Wen who was nodding.

"Why do you need to buy so much Joy?" Qiu Wen asked knowing the twins were behind him after recalling the shopping bags Joy had with her.

"Oh, I have a special project request. I have this website where I get my buyer to tell me their stories and I will draft sketches for their gifts including a list of the materials that will be used and the quotation. Once they agreed, I will then make it for them. The website was built by Xin Xin. He too has his own website. He writes songs and sells them." Joy explained as Qiu Wen was amazed to learn all this about his talented twins.

Xue Ting beamed watching how attached the twins are to him now that he was walking in between them. "And mummy is the biggest influencer here. She loves to draw and paint and color and all her art was sold to Auntie May's gallery under a pseudonym." Joy explained further which sparks more curiosity out of Qiu Wen.

"Qiu Qiu…" Xue Ting called her to not speak further but it was too late.

"Mummy, what's there to hide? It's just Daddy." Joy comforted as Xue Ting humbly smiled.

"What's that pseudonym?" Qiu Wen asked to play along.

"Snowbell," Joy said as Xue Ting rolled her eyes at her daughter for being not a great secret keeper.

"You can just sell mummy anytime you know that? Keep your voice low." Matthew scolded as Qiu Wen chuckled while Joy put out her tongue at Matthew. That led the twins into a small taunting.

"Enough, enough… Joy, you better not simply say all this outside the family alright?" Qiu Wen reminded her as she nodded and leaned on to his arm while they walk. Qiu Wen then gently patted Matthew's arm to calm him down.

"Speaking of which I have to finish next month's one soon." Xue Ting who was walking along with them by Joy's side said as Qiu Wen smiled. He kept repeating her pseudonym in his mind as it sounded familiar but he couldn't recall where he saw it.

"So, who is this Auntie May who owns an art gallery and is so close to all of you?" Qiu Wen questioned. The twins began to explain to him how they grew up with her and had been Xue Ting's best friend long before they were born.

Xue Ting could only beam watching the trio chat happily as they strolled that evening. It made her feel like she had the complete family she had always wanted.

However, she felt a little sad knowing it was not to stay. She wondered what ever happened to James which she still didn't have the guts to ask Qiu Wen. She remembered promising Qiu Wen she would side with him even if the six months contract was up but she knew the truth was she would not be ever to fully be honest with him especially when the twins' identity is in play.

Xue Ting would never want his mother to know about the twins either as she shuddered pondering on the consequences Mrs. Tang would put in place not just for her but also the twins. Her biggest fear and worry was that Mrs. Tang would harm the twins and if that ever happens, she would never hesitate to fight back even if it meant betraying Qiu Wen.
