Chapter 33: Overly worried

Chapter 33: Overly worried

After showering Brisbane took a little longer than usual as she was a little grumpy since she woke up, Xue Ting had to rush to get ready. By the time she went down, Qiu Wen had just arrived home after sending the twins to school. She only managed to grab one pack of bun which she prepared for Brisbane and didn't have enough time to take another or a few more for herself and Qiu Wen in case he was still hungry.

She quickly put on sandals for Brisbane and noticed the puppies' food trays were filled. She sighed a breath of relief as she locked up and went into the car which smell like lily as she noticed a bouquet of it for Pam was sitting at the back seat. She sighed a little in relief when they settled down in the car noticing Brisbane was quiet and clingy to her as she gently caressed her hair.

"Do you want to go back to school, Brisbane?" Xue Ting asked knowing she had heard her answers before, it was also to coax her to lift up her mood before meeting her mother. Brisbane who was nibbling on her bun then sit up on her lap as she nodded looking at Xue Ting who tilted her head to a corner.

"Shall we sign you up for the school nearby the twins tomorrow?" Xue Ting smiled as Brisbane blinked skeptically.

"Sweetie… What's bothering your little mind? We are going to visit your mum and I will talk to her about it alright? Don't worry about it. There are so many of us to take care of and protect you both. You will be alright. So does your mum." Xue Ting comforted as Qiu Wen wanted to tell her about Brisbane's intention to call her mummy but decided not to till Brisbane visits her mum first.

Brisbane begin to smile a little as she lay on her chest and look at Qiu Wen who was driving. Qiu Wen caught her staring as he smiled and winked at her.

"Don't forget to ask your mum…" Qiu Wen reminded as Brisbane giggled while Xue Ting thought he was referring to school but Qiu Wen meant the permission for Brisbane to address Xue Ting as "mummy".

When they walked to Pam's ward on the fifth floor, Xue Ting then saw a familiar tall lean figure standing in the hallway. The familiarity feeling grew stronger the closer they reach the figure. That's when Xue Ting realised who he was when she heard Brisbane call out to him.

"Dan!" Brisbane ran towards him into his arms as he carried her up and twirled her around. Qiu Wen held onto Xue Ting's shoulder as they watched Brisbane giggle and laughed with Dan.

When Dan put her down to greet the couple, he was surprised to see Xue Ting. "Yo bro, great to see you again. Sorry for the trouble." He quickly apologise to Qiu Wen who also noticed he was surprised to see Xue Ting. "Meet my wife, Sicily Tang."

Dan then chuckled. "So it's you, sister-in-law! What a coincidence?" He said as Xue Ting smiled. "What a small world indeed…" Xue Ting said politely.

"What do you mean? You both met before?" Qiu Wen questioned both of them.

"He is the one who send me the contract which I was supposed to talk to you about." Xue Ting explained as she held her hand out for a handshake.

"Nice meeting you again, Mr. Pang." Dan then laughed as he gave her a gentle hug briefly.

"There's no need for formality, sister-in-law. In fact, let's forget about that contract. I owe you both one. So, I will leave it up to you on how you want to handle the logistics matter. I am more willing to accommodate a driver to pick it up though my initial suggestion to share the recipe would be ideal. But… With the favor, I give you all due respect to decide." Dan said sincerely as Brisbane was already restless in his arms that she was playing with his hair.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Xue Ting couldn't think much at that point in time as she began to feel the pangs of her gastric kicking in. She scolded herself in mind for stubbornly not wanting to pack more maple buns earlier. "Let's talk about it another day. I will think about it. Get her in first." Xue Ting urged as Dan smiled and nodded.

"Are we ready to go in now, Brisbane?" Dan asked as Brisbane reached out to the bouquet Qiu Wen passed her. "Alright!" Brisbane cheered in a cute way as Dan carried her in while Qiu Wen and Xue Ting trailed behind.

"Looks who is here!" Dan announced as Brisbane called out to Pam before Dan put her down by her bed.

"Mum! Here's a flower for you…." She said cutely while seated in front of Pam as Pam hugged her in tears.

"Have you been well, honey? Are you alright?" Pam asked while meddling with her braided hair.

"Yes, mummy was so nice! I love her and she let me call her Sicily. I also love Matthew. He is so good-looking. He has a sister and it's Joy! Joy is so cute and… and I also love Uncle Ryan. He is just like Uncle Dan. They are both so strong and they are great daddies!" Brisbane cheered as Pam couldn't help but chuckled in tears of joy while caressing her daughter's face.

Pam then noticed an awkward silence as Xue Ting, Qiu Wen, and Dan stood watching them both, a little surprised at Brisbane's honesty.

"What did you call Aunt Sicily just now?" Pam coaxed as Brisbane nonchalantly replied.

"Mummy… Mum, can I call her that, please? She is so nice and she protects me from the scary thunder. I love her very much... Oh, and she even wants to send me to school tomorrow. Please mum… mum…" Brisbane pleaded with her puppy eyes as Pam hugged her and sighed in relief that her little baby girl was so well taken care of.

"Baby girl, you need to ask her permission first…" Pam gently patted her head as she excitedly wanted to head to Xue Ting while a nurse came in.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Wang, is your daughter, Brisbane Wang here yet? There's a psychiatrist appointment now." The nurse asked as Dan nodded instead.

"Ah yes, yes… She's here." Dan replied as he turned to look at Brisbane who looked a little scared.

"Brisbane, let's go…" Dan coaxed as Brisbane pouted a little. Xue Ting then stepped forward a little.

"Sweetie, come. We will go with you." Xue Ting coaxed, wanting to carry her as Brisbane immediately jumped into her arms.

"We will come back to see your mum after that alright?" Xue Ting said as Pam looked at them. Brisbane nodded and reached out to Pam wanting to kiss her cheek. Xue Ting exchanged a brief smile with Pam while Brisbane was at it before leaving with the nurse. Qiu Wen was following them while Dan joined briefly after as after ensuring Pam was alright by herself.

"I can go in myself," Brisbane announced when they reached outside of the psychiatrist's office.

"Are you sure, sweetie? You don't need anyone of us inside?" Xue Ting tried to confirm worriedly as Brisbane nodded with conviction.

"Yes…" Brisbane then surprised Xue Ting with a kiss on her cheek before entering the psychiatrist's room with the nurse.

Xue Ting was helped by Qiu Wen to stand and sit on the bench after noticing she was stunned for a moment. She was in fact half surprised and half trying to endure the growing intense pangs of her gastric.

"Hey…" Qiu Wen called out softly as he gently put some of her loose fringe behind her ears but instead, she gripped on tightly to his arm subconsciously as she endured the next pangs of gastric.

"Sicily, are you alright?" Dan noticed her grimaces as he went over to have a look.

She didn't even manage to respond that left both men panicking a little as Qiu Wen quickly carried her to the emergency ward.

"I will take her to the emergency ward. Be right back! " Qiu Wen announced as Dan put his thumb up and continued to wait outside of the psychiatrist's room.

It was the first time after so long, Xue Ting realised she was carried by Qiu Wen again and it caught her off guard. She blamed herself for being so petite that this tall giant could sweep her off her feet without any effort.

As she was put on a drip, he sat with her in bed and let her rest on his chest.

"I'm sorry for putting you into so much trouble…" He apologised as she was still gripping to his arm but he could feel them loosening. He knew she had felt better but she was still looking so pale.

"It's not your fault… I just forgot about my bun. I only managed to grab for Brisbane." She said weakly.

"Are you sure it's not because you're overly worried? You used to have this issue when it was near exams." He questioned knowingly as she looked away feeling embarrassed for being caught. He smiled knowing he was right as he gently pin her fringe with the hairpin he took from the scrunchy band she had on her wrist.

"Let's go back and wait for Brisbane. I promised her." She said after a while, still worrying about Brisbane as she sat up but Qiu Wen pulled her back into his arms.

"Sit. At least wait till you finish this drip. I will get Dan to bring her here after she is done." Qiu Wen persuaded.

"But I promised her to wait there… She hasn't been very lively this morning…" Qiu Wen sighed helplessly.

"A while more…" Qiu Wen tried to coax but she stubbornly still sat up in bed. He was left with no choice but to help her down from the bed and slowly walked over to Dan with her drip bag.

"Always and had been the same since young aren't you? I am only doing this cause I know leaving you in bed would not even make the gastric go away." Qiu Wen nagged as Xue Ting chuckled weakly in his arms.

"Feels so good to hear his nags again…" She thought to herself as she smiled weakly approaching the psychiatrist's ward.
