340 Elk Moral

340 Elk Moral

Allen woke up to another sparkly morning of counting gems and jewels, or maybe coins or crowns, deciding to size match gilded plates today he opened his eye and blinked when horror and rage warred inside him, everything was gone, his rubies and plates, every last piece of gold vanished from his cave.

Looking all around he finally spotted one coin in a corner, picking it up with the tips of his nails, careful not to scratch it he placed it in his palm, another coin caught his attention and he added it to its mate, picking up more coins he started counting them as they were added to his palm, finally finding a stack he sat down to count the coins before moving on to find the rest of his treasure.

Finished with the tally he found himself surrounded by thieves, all kinds of colorful people that were after his treasure, he spread his wings to scare them off and roared when they wouldn't move at his awesome display of power.

"You spoke the truth BoneSmith", he heard someone say from behind him, "he is just a hatchling", twisting his neck he saw one of the colored people soeaking with a minion that brought him more treasure from time to time, "though the size is quite misleading", the speaker measured him up with her mismatched eyes and added, "I wonder what size he will end up with".

"We hide no dragons here Kyatha", the minion spoke, "he was drawn to the crystal like the others", she added, "you can tell your guild the agreement holds true", after a pause, "though this one is now temple property and I cant have you take it"

Feeling slighted Allen growled at the minion, "you are mine", and added, "where is my treasure?".

"It's kept in a safe place" the minion finally said, "I will take you to it when we are done here"

"Then take me now", not understanding why he was delayed from counting his treasure, "I am done with this"

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

The minion looked at the colored Kyatha who shrugged her shoulders and made a dismissing gesture with her hand, Allen thought to protest but that would nust delay him longer from reuniting with his precious sparkling glorious treasure so he followed the minion BoneSmith through the caverns, noticing that the others didnt follow he approved that a trove should be kept secret.

Stopping at a suspiciously familiar entrance Allen had a feeling of familiarity laced with something he should have remembered.

Entering the bare and dark cave he looked for his treasure before an alarm caused him to retreat, seeing the scales and horns he knew he was trapped, the minion tricked him, this was another dragon, old and dangerous, Allen opened his mouth to use his breath at the domineering creature but a huff from the other beast's nostril filled his mouth with gusts of wind and he had to close it or suffocate.

Moving to the side exposed his flank to attack but the lazy monster didn't move, Allen lunged at the slumbering beast only to be swatted away like a fly with a single flap of its wing, they were almost the same size so how come the other creature was so easily overpowering him.

Finally the other dragon said "enough" with such force that stones fell from the walls and Allen was compelled to settle down, "is this really the same Allen that spoke with me over a month ago?" the creature asked BoneSmith.

"Yes" the minion answerd, "we have seen this happen before", shaking her head, "it takes a dragon years to overcome the gold lust", she looked at Allen, "even Kobold hatchlings go through this phase though we teach them otherwise as soon as they can conquer their base needs"

"I see", the dragon rumbled, "never had hatchlings of my own" added after a pause, "how do you teach them to ivercome this lust?" It asked the minion.

"With Kobold hatchlings we teach them to trust the law", she explained, "how property and civility correlate to create a bigger pile for everyone", looking at Allen "but we can't force the lesson on him", after a pause, "partly due to his size and strength but also because of who he is" breathing deep, "so we ask your help in civilising him please name your price"

"Two things I desire", the elder dragon said, "books", adding after a pause "and time with him even after we are done", his words moving a memory in Allen about reading books and what was in them, they were a kind of treasure and he should probably gather a few piles of them.
