The foxes are being weird today. No matter how many times she tried to get close to them she just couldn't. They would jump out from behind a snow bluff or a tree and yip at her and then run off like the wind. How can they even run that fast?!
She stuffed her scepter in to her storage ring and gave chase like the wild child that she was. She would get pretty close to one, but once she would get close enough to try to catch one it would make a sharp turn in the opposite direction and she would fall into the snow and all the foxes would stop and chitter at her. She actually enjoyed it more than she thought she would though.
She transformed into a gorgeous silver fox with sharp green eyes, she was a little larger than the dungeon foxes. She chased them around the floor all day, she pounced at dozens of foxes before she finally managed to start catching a few. The day seemed to fly by.
After playing all day she grew tired and went back to the cabin. She ate some roasted meat and some tree nuts and berries and then dragged herself into the washroom to clean herself off before passing out in record time. All in all she could consider it a good day. She dreamed of chasing foxes in the snow.
When she woke up the next day the foxes were back to normal but she looked at them in a different light now, she almost felt pity for killing them but she reminded herself that they were just creatures formed by mana. They weren't real in a literal sense.
They could only survive out of the dungeon as a contracted beast. The mana supplied by the dungeon would then be supplied by you. It was weird really. She didn't know the whole story on how it worked she had just heard her parents talking about it once.
She carried on her normal routine after that and before long she finally came into contact with the elusive horned ice hares. Once she found the horned ice hares, she really liked them. They were simple creatures, they just wanted to stab everything. After using her identify on it it became predictable enough.
All she has to do is smash them before they can use their ice magic. Time had no meaning in a dungeon. Only levels mattered and at this point she's already reached level twelve and had enough confidence to handle anything on this floor.
[Horned Ice Hare. Small omnivore that is brave beyond it's size. They have adapted to live in packs and hunt together. Anything that come near should beware. Ice magic user.]
She has seen the wolves around the floor but they have never approached her so today she's going to approach them to try to take one down.

First off! She can transform?! That's amazing! And she so beautiful! Like a drop of silver moonlight. Secondly! Tsk. tsk. That girl sure is getting brave, I don't want her to die but I also kind of want to see what she can do. I watched these wolves take down a huge polar bear though so maybe i'm biased. Well i'll stop it if I have to.
Even though I haven't told the wolf to fight he's not one to turn down a direct confrontation and starts growling at the fox girl.
The wolf didn't hesitate to launch a sand ball at her, to try to take advantage of the blind spot caused by the sand. The fox girl is surprised by the sand and automatically launches a fireball to clear her view.
The sand becomes glass and the wolf becomes a charred clump before it turns into a figurine of a howling wolf. I chuckle to myself as I consider how that probably wasn't how she expected that to go.

If there's one thing I know about her it's that she likes to physically beat stuff rather than burn it to a crisp. I wonder if she's going to try again.
Ah to be young and brave. She didn't hesitate before going off to find another wolf that she could clobber to death. It didn't take long before she found one, and this time she took her time to come up with a plan instead of just charging in head first like last time.
She took the time to go around the wolf until she was directly behind it and then slowly made her way closer to the wolf making sure to stay in the soft snow areas to dampen her steps.
She made it about four feet behind the wolf before it noticed something was wrong, but it was too late. She was smashed her scepter down on it's spine and crippled it before smashing it's head to put it out of it's misery. Well color me impressed, while she was in fact able to take one down, I didn't think she would be able to deal with a whole pack just yet.
Of course I don't know how many single people could beat down a pack of wolves. I doubt there's many. I wonder what she's going to do now that she has defeated all the monsters on this floor. She picks up her wolf meat and calls it a day and heads back to the cabin, does her usual routine and falls asleep.
I turn my attention back to the eighth floor and smiled widely at my wonderful oasis. It's even more green than it was this morning. There are bees and dragonflies buzzing around everywhere and I just love it. It's not something you would expect in the desert, but yet here it is.
Before I can get too into enjoying the scenery I pull myself back to reality so I can keep on summoning insects and spiders. I summon two hundred preying mantis, two hundred cobalt blue tarantulas, they are so beautiful! I summon twenty of them to the mine and hope they transform like the turret spiders did. Then I summon two hundred sun spiders and gasped at the absurdity of the desert. Those things look dangerous.
I summon two hundred cicadas and call it enough for one night. I don't want to add too many predators to the floor before it's had its first big bug boom like on the fourth floor. I might wait a couple of nights or a week before I add any thing else. It's not easy to make stable populations. If I add tarantula hawks before there's enough tarantulas both species will suffer.
I want to avoid little problems like that. And even though I can summon thousands of each I'd rather let them spread naturally. It just feels right. They are mana monsters, but they don't have DNA or genes to worry about. In my dungeon all monsters reproduce through mana. That's why it's such a fast process.
The little fox girl spent all week hunting down and fighting lone wolves. She got hit by sand a couple of times but now that she knows what to expect she doesn't find it so intimidating anymore.
At first I let her fight a couple of single ones throughout the day but on the fourth day I summoned a second wolf not far from where she was fighting the first wolf and sent it to attack her.
It's ferocity took both of us by surprise actually. The second wolf didn't hesitate to obey my command and pounced right at her without warning. She was surprised by the second wolf and wasn't able to react in time and I thought her poor leg was gonna get clawed off.
Her dress protected her like armour would though and the wolf slid down mostly unharmed until she clobbered it in the head with her scepter. Her face was clearly just as surprised as mine though so that was really cute.
She quickly righted herself and took care of the wolf that was still in shock of seeing the death of it's pack mate. After that she became braver and feared none of the wolves.
She would charge in half bravely half stupidly. Just because you have armour doesn't mean you have to risk life and limb. Well I guess they are too low level to do real harm but still; Don't start bad habits.
Now it's time to get back to work and focus on summoning more monsters for my eighth floor. I focus on my oasis and see that my monster populations have exploded like I wanted so I can summon the rest of my monsters on the bug list.
I summon two hundred pairs of bark scorpions, two hundred pairs of black widows, two hundred tarantula hawks, two hundred giant hairy scorpions and two hundred giant crab spiders and watch as they all scatter to claim territories for themselves. Now i'll let them settle and go back to watching my cute visitor.
This is so much better than being alone in my thoughts. I hope she never leaves. I still have to wait for the fox girl to wake up so I think it's time to look into some of those system controlled settings to maintain my population numbers on all my floors.
After consulting the system it's not very expensive for the first floor but I imagine later on this function could be quite costly but worth it. The cost to maintain my first floor is only five hundred dp and it goes up in cost from there. That took care of the problem of the labyrinth golems not reproducing. I won't have to worry later on.
