Chapter seven

I decided not to start on my third floor yet, I want to put a female swift fox on my first floor and see if she gets along with the locals or if they take it upon themselves to deal with her. I want to know if they can breed considering they technically come from two different universes, I think.

Plus I bet they would benefit a lot from getting some wind magic in their bloodline. I mean it can't hinder them at least. But that didn't take up much of my time so I decided to make figurines of my monsters out of tetradymite and cover them in copper and I added them to all of my drops. A silly keepsake from my dungeon. Who knows maybe someone will collect all the sets.

Nothing says I completed a floor better than proof of conquest. Muahaha. I hope it's a hit really. I made all my creatures in various poses with different facial expressions for all of them. It consumed quite a bit of materials but I wasn't worried if I ran out I could always make it with mana.

I must have been distracted for a really long time, because when I focused on the first floor to check on my fox experiment I could see just a hint of light around the ever present darkness. Soon the sun would be back and I was hopeful to finally be discovered and have my first delvers.

I was ecstatic to find that the female fox had been taken in by one of the male snow foxes and they had a full litter of five. Wow. I got lucky they all have a natural affinity for ice and wind and have been accepted by the rest of the foxes. Now I was curious to see the changes to my second floor.

I gasped in shock when I brought my attention back to the second floor, it was everything I had dreamed of. Monsters were everywhere but at the same time it didn't feel crowded at all. I gave a quick once over to the floor and found nothing that needed attending to so I settled down to check out the monsters I had summoned but never really paid any attention to, which turned out to be almost everything on this floor.

First, the ferrets had really gone all out and bred like rats and even though I don't have prairie dogs I do have larger than normal beetles and the ferrets have taken a liking to them. Thankfully I gave the beetle population a growth period so they can handle it without much trouble.

Next the zebra had twins so now I have four but it was slow going so I summoned another two pairs and now I didn't think it would be long before I had more. I was excited to see a herd of zebras in my dungeon.

Surprisingly the wolves hadn't really developed much, maybe they weren't meant to stay on this floor. They did seem a bit out if place to me here. I decided to gamble and I sent them all up the stairs to the first floor.

They seemed a bit reluctant at first but I urged them on any way and soon they were on the first floor. They sniffed the air nervously but quickly perked up when they smelled other wolves. Which made me happy so I just left them alone to blend into their new packs. I'm sure this would lead to a third pack but it would be interesting to see how they divide themselves.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

It would be interesting to see what their earth magic becomes after they mix with the wind magic. Sand projectiles don't sound deadly but they do sound painful. At least I hope it doesn't turn out to be that powerful.

I turned back to my second floor and focused on my small herd of gazelles, down to two now. Apparently the two starter cheetahs that I summoned were more than enough to take out most of the gazelles and weren't interested in much of the smaller prey around the floor.

They looked really healthy though so I'm sure if anyone ate them it would be beneficial. They do feast on dungeon herbs and grasses. I summon twenty pairs more of gazelles and called it good.

My honey badgers did settle down near the bee hives but contrary to what I thought they have no interest in furthering their population or dominating, they seem more interested in the hives and bullying the other monsters that came too close.

I was kind of disappointed I wouldn't be getting any babies but I was happy to see the bees more worried about defending than occupying more territory. I am happy with everything on this floor and I'm sure the ecosystem I have set up here will go on with minimal attention.

I briefly glanced at my first floor and saw the sun was back in full force again and my wolves had decided not to split up their packs but to split up the new wolves and continue on with normal life. But I'd focus on that later, after I'd gotten some work done on my third floor.

I picked a spot near my altar and repeated the procedure of making a spiral stairway downward. I think soon I'll see about expanding to the sides so I know I'm not wasting any of my mountain space. Real estate could be hard to come by in the future if I'm not given a spacial affinity at some point, which I considered a real possibility.

It didn't take long for my stairs to be completed and I heard the usual ding but I ignored it and dug and dug and dug. It seemed to go on for a very long time but eventually I reached the limit of what the system let me dig and I sat back in wonder at the size of my third floor.

It had taken me most of the dark season to set up my second floor so I expected to spend at least a year filling this floor up with life. That sounded reasonable to me, I was sure my mana intake would go up again but I still doubted it would take less than that considering the big plans I had for this floor. This floor would follow the theme of the last two floors and this floor would be an eternal summer that made you want to just stay here forever.

I pulled up my notifications and checked them over curious about how much dp I would get for completing my second floor.

[Congratulations on finishing your second floor. Three hundred dungeon points as a reward. Please choose the ecosystem for your next floor and also your next starter monster. Monsters will be based of ecosystem. ]

[Grassland, wetlands, desert, forest, coral reef, tundra, terrestrial, savanna, rainforest, freshwater, lake, Taiga Boreal, mangrove, swamp, volcanic, mountain ]

This was always the hardest part. So many good ideas and so many choices to choose from. Do I make an underwater level with the coral reef as the main attraction and the land would a safe zone so to speak with just birds and insects from my second floor or do I use the mangrove so the whole floor is active with monsters. It's such a hard choice but after a lot of back and forth with myself, I think I've made up my mind.
