Chapter twenty

Katherine Pov

The teleportation was a little nauseating but she could handle it, what she found hard to deal with was the bone chilling cold she felt as soon as she got here. It made her fingers and toes feel like ice.

It was completely dark and she was having a hard time adjusting to it. Wasn't the sun just about to come up when she left? Why was it completely dark? She was startled when she heard the ding of a system notification.

[Congratulations. You have arrived at Fox Paradise Dungeon. It is completely unexplored. The first explorers were your kidnappers and they all died here. You have received a twenty four hour grace period and a system faithful box. Faithfully pray to the system and it shall give you three items you want or desperately need. Good luck.]

She shivered from the cold as she read and trembled in fear and joy at the same time. Her kidnappers were dead. The system had seen to it, but she could also be a building block for the dungeon if she wasn't careful.

She bent over and picked up the cute box that had fallen to the ground from no where. It was only the size of a box of shoes but it felt like it weighed more than she did, but that could just be the pressure she felt holding the capacity to turn her life around at this very moment. She decided to hold off on making any big decisions and enter the dungeon and get the lay of the land during her grace period.

She was in awe of the little lights on the ceiling that never seemed to blink. They reminded her of stars. She found she liked them very much. After walking a short distance a white fox appeared before her and yipped at her.

She was confused. Didn't she have a grace period? It didn't seem aggressive though. But even if she transformed into her fox form she didn't think she could understand dungeon monsters. It yipped at her a few more times then turned and walked away.

She stood there frozen for a moment before the little fox turned around and yipped at her again as it kept walking along. She started following it before she could come to her senses. It only took five or ten minutes to find the cabins. She had to be careful and take note of where the fox walked.

They came across a crevice that could swallow her whole if she hadn't been paying attention. While it wasn't very deep, it was wide and it looked like it would take a lot of effort to get out of.

The cabins looked warm and inviting so she didn't hesitate to enter the nearest one. She was pleasantly surprised to find it better furnished than she had imagined. It was just a large open room with a corner walled off as a toilet and wash room.

There was a table right at the left of the entrance piled high with food and water skins. On the right side were two set of bunk beds that each had three matresses. They were just barely big enough to hold a person. And at the back left side was a fireplace with a chimney for cooking, with the right side being the washroom area.

It was simple but she loved it. It almost reminded her of her simple childhood. It wasn't a perfect match but it was enough to relax her. She plopped down into the nearest chair while placing her system faithful box on the table.

The adrenaline had stopped coursing through her veins and she was exhausted and still in disbelief that she was finally free. She drank some water and ate the bright berries that were on the table. They were sour but sweet at the same time and she really liked them. It didn't take long for her to clear the table of berries and drink one of the pouches of water.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Despite having slept for a few hours before being woken up by the system she felt extremely tired now that her stomach was bloated after years of not eating her fill. She dragged herself over to the closest bed and wrapped the fur blanket around herself and went to sleep smiling.

Lilith Dungeon Core Pov

I am losing my mind. That little fox girl can have my dungeon core if she asks nicely. I have to hold myself back from throwing all of my enchanted jewelry at her. I can't believe someone would enslave her. I'm just fuming. She looks like a child. Well.. A well developed child but I can tell she's only a kid.

She only has one tail after all. My core is cracking man. I curse the system for it's rules and not letting me kill that man. She loved the berries from the fourth floor though so that brought me joy. I'm very curious about the box that appeared out of no where right after she did.

I'm going to keep a close eye of it and see what it is. That is my worst habit really... I always want to know what's in the box. Why didn't they kill me that way. If a box came to my front door labeled; Do not open, you will die. I would still open it...

While she's sleeping I summon my golem army so I can get started on my next floor. I have a delver now. I need to be ready for more. Four hundred should do the trick. They do not reproduce and I will have to keep track of their numbers. I wonder if I can auto set that with the system. Something to consider for all my floors really.

The girl slept for two days straight before she jumped out of the bed and ran to the toilet to relieve herself. She scared the crap out of me honestly. I didn't know if she was ever going to wake up. It was only right that I let her take care of herself in private.

I might be a stalker but I'm not a pervert. Hmph. I made sure all the food on the table was still in good condition and added a small black storage ring as an after thought, they aren't worth much truly. I tried to not pay attention to the girl. I really did but.. I need to know what's in that damn box. Grrr.

She jumped out of bed like she was on fire. The pressure on her bladder made it feel like she was being stepped on by a horse. She fled to the toilet as she pulled up her notifications trying to straighten out the timeline in her mind.

[Reminder, your twenty four hour grace period has ended. When you leave the safe zone you will be attacked. Use the system faithful box before leaving the save zone. Good luck.]

Her eyes widened in shocked at the fact that she had slept through her grace period. It was like a stab to the heart knowing she wouldn't be able to make a map without being attacked anymore. She stripped naked and washed herself with the water from the faucet quickly before putting back on the simple dress she had been wearing.

She rushed over to the table and began checking out the other fruits as she chewed on the jerky, her eyes swept over something sparkly on the table and jumped in surprise. She almost chocked on her food. She had never seen such a beautiful ring before.

She didn't know how she could have missed it the other night but she was very tired at the time so anything was possible. She scooped it up and brought it to her eye hoping to see her reflection in the black stone, but she couldn't.

Disappointed she put it back on the table and picked up her system faithful box and pondered for a while. She was extremely torn about what she should ask the system for. Her first thought was to ask for high grade skills that would help her even after she left the dungeon but she didn't think that was smart.

She didn't really have any weapon proficiency so asking for a weapon would be a mistake and she didn't have the body strength to drag around full body armour. She decided to leave it to fate. The system knows her best after all. She hugged the box tightly and prayed to the system to gift her something that would always be useful to her.

The box started glowing which in turn made her start glowing. It was over before she could even question what was happening. She heard the ding of a notification and pulled up her panel and fell out of the chair in shock.

[Congratulations! You have acquired the skill Identify. The skill can not be leveled and can only be blocked by system made tools.]

As she pulled herself back up to the table she was grinning like a fool. She was right to trust the system. This would be the skill that would probably end up saving her life the most. Knowledge is power after all.
