Cyril Pov
Man, ever since we accepted that stupid offer to come to the dungeon nothing has been going right for our group. First the women and children disappeared in the middle of the night. Then the two guys that were staying with them tried to convince us to chase after them. Only two men wanted to join them. Now It was just the four of us left.
Adler was the oldest at twenty five. He had spent four years in the mine. He has a radar skill. Colton was twenty four and he came in at the same time as Adler. He was quiet and kept to himself. Nayef was only twenty. He had only been in the mines for a few years.
He talked with a thick accent and it had taken some time to figure out how decipher words from what he spoke. I'm Cyril and i'm nineteen. I came in at the same time as Nayef. The other four men that ran off chasing the women gave them bad vibes when they in the mine.
They were sure they had never been good people. Good riddance. But the part that really turned us off from staying was the cacophony of sounds that happened after they left. The wolves howling like that and the owls hooting non stop. It was just eerie. At first we were sure we would be next so we planned to leave the dungeon.
We ate three meals in a day before we felt like we were ready to fight some monsters if we had to. Imagine our surprise when nothing jumped out at us as we made our way out of the dungeon. It was a relief and very weird at the same time.
We should have felt excited when we exited the dungeon, it had been countless years since we had seen the sun and smelled fresh air. But it soon became very clear that there wasn't a settlement of any kind near the dungeon.
The wind blew non stop the entire time we were hiking down the mountain. We tried to stay as close to each other as we could to ward off the cold. By the time we made it to the bottom of the mountain it became very clear that the mountain covered ninety percent of the island. The water was icy cold to the touch. We couldn't see any land.
It was the beginning of a new nightmare. It wasn't possible to leave the island. They had no choice but to go back to the dungeon. At least there they had shelter and a little bit of food. They could come up with a plan to fight some dungeon monsters and gain some levels.
They pressumed the men, women and children to be dead. All they could do now was go back. They didn't cross paths with any animals thanks to Adler's radar skill. It was very useful in the mine and even more so in the wilderness or a dungeon. It took longer to climb back up the mountain than it did to hike down.
By the time we made it to the dungeon, we were more than ready to sit down and relax. It had only been a few hours but it felt longer than that. The oddest thing was that the sun never moved. It never got dark here. Was that normal?
Thankfully the entrance to the dungeon was only around ten feet tall and five feet wide, most of the first floor could enjoy the dark even with the sun up all the time. As they passed by the trees the all took turns picking out a tree branch sturdy enough to beat some monsters to death with.
It took some work to get the all four of us a decent branch that could stand up to a beating but we managed. We made our way back to the safe zone doing our best to avoid the monsters on the floor. Today was just not our lucky day.
There was a horned rabbit waiting for us. There was no way to avoid it. It would see us the moment we stepped out from behind the snow bluff. We all agreed to attack it in turns and jump away as quickly as we could in hopes of not being stabbed. It was a poor plan.

But it was all they had. We all had five to eight levels so this shouldn't be too hard. We stood there for a moment to work up our courage before jumping out with a warrior's cry. The horned rabbit didn't seem startled at all.
We hefted our branches up over our heads and charged in. The horned rabbit seemed to be charging up some sort of attack so I shouted out to avoid it's front area. It was a good thing I had because a moment later an ice shard flew passed where Nayef had just been. It looked extremely dangerous for something so cute.
Adler managed to get behind it and smash it in the back of the head. That dazed it enough that we could all get close enough to start beating it to death. We all took turns hitting it before it turned in to a rabbit pelt. It wasn't very large and none of them leveled up but at least none of them were injured.
Adler picked up the pelt and we made our way to the safe zone. We did not encounter any other monsters on the way fortunately. Once we heard the ding that we had entered the safe zone again we all deflated and thought back on how everything had gone for us. Our future wasn't looking too bright.
Alice Pov
After waking up Violet and the kids sleeping on top of her I rushed us all deeper into the dungeon. I'm thankful Violet didn't fight or question me. I just couldn't stay on the same floor as the men who had sent lecherous gazes our way since we first arrived at the mine.
I was so thankful to be plain for the first time in my life. They hardly ever gave me a second look. Especially once I became covered in filth from the mines and my hair became a tangled mess. Violet was also plain but her eyes were very bright purple and they had a way of making people want to get close to her. I tried to help her blend in to the best of my abilities.
They kept their heads down and tried not to call attention to themselves. They weren't proud of it but they used the children sleeping on top of them to deter those that still had nasty thoughts about them from time to time. So far it had worked.
The dungeon would change that though. People became animals when they entered dungeons. They had all heard the stories about it growing up. Women going in to dungeons to level up and disappearing. Sold into slavery. They just didn't think it would happen to them. It had been very sudden.
One minute she had been hunting in a dungeon and someone hit her over the head and she blacked out to wake up in the mine. It had been a very jarring process. Almost the exact thing had happened to Violet but her story wasn't quite as innocent as mine was. Those eyes are just trouble.
I wanted to go deeper into the dungeon after making it to the second floor but I could tell that the children were exhausted and they might not make it through without being carried. They were in no position to carry five children so they settled down on the second floor. I felt much better once we settled in to the safe zone.
That was until the second night when they heard the screams. They were haunting. We could hear the pain they felt as they screamed. They had a vague idea of who was screaming. It didn't last long thankfully. Only around ten minutes or so but it solidified their desire to stay inside the cabin at night.
Thankfully nothing else happened and they were able to get some rest. It was a blessing that there were bushes with berries right within the safe zone. There was even running water in the cabin. We had lived in worse conditions in the mine.
It was only a day or so later that an axe appeared in the safe zone. I almost wept when I saw it. It would give us a chance to go out and gain some levels. I was only level eight and if I recalled correctly Violet was level eleven. Maybe we could even leave this place some how. It seemed unlikely but anything was possible.
Three of the boys with them were old enough to start leveling up, but the twin boy and girl were only eleven and still had more than six months before their systems became available. The three boys were from the same area and had grown up together. Their names were Niall, Garvan and Keane. The twins were Connor and Eilish.
Violet and I agreed to take turns using the axe to level up and the other would stay in the safe zone until they found a second weapon. They did have more than enough smarts to recognize that neither of them were in any place to go out monster hunting yet. They would make due with berries and water until they were a little better. Hopefully it wouldn't take long for them to recover a little bit of their former body weight and some strength.
