It only took a few minutes before I physically made it down to my second floor for the first time and the change in scenery made me momentarily forget about the beautiful galaxy I existed in now. It was so full of life.
I decided to set up my altar before I got too into checking everything out. I decided to keep things simple and set myself up on the opposite side of my floor. I wanted to make use of my newfound metals to set up my alter this time.
I made a simple silver table and made a divot for myself in it and sat myself down and then I made a cage of silver and gold and wrapped it around myself, once I felt safe I proceeded to carve out realistic figurines of all the monsters that would call this floor home and then fused them to my table so people couldn't take them.
When it was all said and done I was very happy. So I changed my first floor altar to match. It was a breeze.
Once I was settled in I took the time to check out the progress of my insects and birds and I was not let down. The queen bees had expanded to cover another tree and the population had exploded.
Apparently they were not bothered by the birds I've released, I almost hate to summon the honey badgers and give them a predator but it must happen. I can't have the bees unmanaged and taking over the floor and my gorgeous beetles, my dreams had come true and they covered the trees in a rainbow of colors. Some colors had blended well and others hadn't but that's life, I won't be too picky.
The grasshoppers have quieted down considerably, I guess the grasshopper sparrows were doing a great job at keeping them in line. And last but not least, my warring ants. I can still see three ant hills but they are considerably bigger and I feel like they aren't fighting as much as the last time I checked on them. Maybe the burrowing owls made them realize they couldn't keep fighting amongst themselves. I love it when a plan comes together.
Satisfied with my insects I turn my attention to my birds, I'm happy to see all of them are doing great and the population is growing steadily. The greater prairie chickens have made themselves nests under some of the trees occupied by my beetles and the burrowing owls have made their nests in an area pretty close to the ant hills, I guess they are both the type to live near their food.
The hawks and falcons chose to make their nests far away from each other so as to not have territory issues. And both of them considered the little sparrows and meadlarks their prey so I decided to summon a few more of them so the population wouldn't drop too low. I'm happy to report that my second floor has a sun and moon cycle unlike my first floor which stays pretty dark.
I felt very gratified looking at my work. I'm not sure how long I've been a dungeon core now, barely a year probably but I've accomplished a lot. And it was just starting, I still have so many ideas to make a reality. I still have some mana after making my altar so I take a moment to look over what creatures I still need to summon.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
I summoned eight black ferrets, four males and four females and sent them off to the pre-made tunnel system I had set up for them for lack of prairie dogs. I hoped they would make do with out. And then I summoned a male and female zebra and watched them walk off without a care in the world. Content with my days work I wanted to do something different to pass the time but I was kinda stuck in this one spot waiting for my mana to recover.
Man I would destroy my own core for some fucking music to pass the time. Why do dungeon cores have so much down time. Thankfully it seemed my mana recovered faster now that I'm on the second floor. So it didn't take long before I could summon some more of my critters.
I tired to keep it simple, I summoned six female and six male swift foxes, then I made a wolf pack of five males and three females and then I summoned two honey badgers. I was sure they would end up dominating this floor. It wouldn't be long now before I had summoned all the monsters for this floor.
I made sure to keep an ear out for anything going on up stairs but so far it's been really quiet aside from a few voles and hares. Nothing concerning at all. I'm pretty sure its going to be really slow until the darkness runs it's course but I can't bring myself to be happy about it at all. So I turn to my memories and try to think of something that can take up some of this time.
After a lot of thinking I came to the conclusion that I shouldn't bother trying to make any currency because it probably wouldn't even be valid, just worth it's weight in gold. So I decided to try my hand at making some enchanted jewelry. I had nothing better to do anyway.
After a lot of frustrating days maybe weeks, I finally found the right mix between the gold and silver and created a ring of defense. It wasn't very fancy but it would protect the user from an animal or bandit attack.
After that it was pretty easy to make all sorts of things I would have loved to be able to use now, or in my past life. A ring of health, a pendant of tracking, a ring of blending, a bracelet of strengthening and even a necklace of poison resistance.
I was quite proud of myself but making these had me neglecting my second floor. So I summoned a cheetah pair and then I summoned six pairs of gazelles to give the cheetahs something to chase and tried to focus on my dungeon again. I guess since I have all this cool loot I should go over my drops and see what my options are.
It's all pretty basic like the first floor. Meat, claws and beautiful pelts are the basic but I can make them better, I can make sure they get the best cuts of meats and the claws are already refined and ready to be used as throwing knives and the pelts were hole free and had great unique patterns. And as a bonus I hid a ring of defense in the bee hive. Maybe someone will find it. After all, fortune favors the bold.
I'm not sure how long it took me to make all my awesome jewelry but my second floor was full of monsters and I loved it. It fit my vision perfectly and I was struggling to come up with things to add. Field dungeons don't usually have traps except maybe pit traps but I wouldn't use those, I wouldn't want my monsters falling in them. I was considering buying some more monsters with dp but I decided against it. I'm pretty sure I'm closing in on my third floor soon. It feels really fast compared to everything I've read, I haven't even been here for a year yet but I already have two floors.
