Chapter fifty three

Katherine Pov

Eventually she got bored of leaning against the table and stood up and faced the table full of figurines. She took off her ring of translation that had been gifted to her by the dungeon and placed it on the table. She caressed the table for a moment before speaking out loud.

{Katherine} "Is everything ok? You seemed pretty upset earlier. Did someone new get invited to the dungeon? Can I help you with anything? Did you learn another new language? Can you add it to my ring as well? I don't know if their pace is fast enough to catch up with us but i'd rather not be taken by surprise if they want to murder us."

She paused realizing she had said a lot pretty quickly. She was really kicking herself for not remembering to ask Ani anything more about the dungeon core. If anything she had given her more questions. She had said her name was Lili? Right?

She didn't realize that at some point her ring had dissolved and reformed and now there was a sheet of paper with beautiful penmanship next to it. The paper was like the one from her notebook except it lacked the holes where the spirals has been put through.

She picked it up and began to read it.

Dear Kat,

Thanks for worrying about me. I'm fine though. Normal dungeon business. I did get new visitors. There were some troublemakers in the group but I took care of them. There's two women and five children on the second floor and four men on the first floor.

I will update your ring to include the new language i've learned. You should have no issues if you want to go to the second floor and meet the larger group. They seem nice enough.

Stay away from the men on the first floor, but don't worry. If they have any malicious intent towards you children i'll kill them before they have a chance to regret it. Don't do stupid stuff. I can't watch you all the time.

Lili

Well that's different. She can't recall if she's ever heard of someone recieving a letter from a dungeon core. She folds it up and puts in to her storage ring for safe keeping. She picks up her new but exactly the same ring of translation and puts it on her finger and goes back to the cabin to go to bed.

Lilith Pov

I don't know what possesed me to write Kat a letter after she asked me all those questions but I can't take it back now. She took it pretty well though. I sigh and try to remember what I was doing before she interupted me.

I had just finished creating that behemoth that didn't seem to fit on any of my floors. I sighed again. It was such a wonderful specimen but I had created it too soon. What I did like was the bear/pig mix and goblin evolutuion that I created.

I made it a point to summon ten pairs of the bear/pig mix to the fourth floor. I almost drool at the thought of what their meat must taste like. I mentally pinch myself and focus back on the fifth floor mine where the gem lioness and goblins are living side by side happily.

I do a once over on the group before I notice an anamoly, there's a metal lion in the group. That's new! There have always been gem lions until now. I am excited to see a change. I ask the system if I can summon more of them now and it confirms that I can.

I almost want to start doing a happy dance. Metal lions sounds like they could be super powerful and much more resistant to attacks. They are a great addition to my dungeon. I summon thirty more of them to live with the goblins. That should help with their strength problem.

I no longer feel any worry about my goblins being immidiately demolished the moment someone steps in to the mine area. That's a great relief off my shoulders. I feel like the fifth floor should be where I take off my kids gloves so to speak.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The fifth floor is where the real challenge begins. You have to make sure to keep track of your food, water and the direction you have taken. And then there's the temptation of the mine. Who wouldn't want to take an hour or so and dig for ores and jewels? You can lose track of the direction you came from and walk in circles until you finally figure it out.

I got distracted again. I mentally pinch myself to get back on track. I still need to summon a hobgoblin to the mine. I'm only going to summon one though. It can be the goblin king. I wonder how the group will take it? I focus for a second and summon a male earth affinty hobgoblin to the mine.

It doesn't take long for all the goblins to stop what they are doing and begin to stare down the tunnel. The presence of the male hobgoblin stunned the entire hoard. Some got down on their knees and bowed and some cowered.

Most of them just stood there in awe. There were a few who looked a little upset by his appearance but there was nothing they could do. Their very bloodline was being surpressed by the power of the hobgoblin.

The hobgoblin seemed quite pleased with the reaction from the goblins. I decide to stop watching them and see what the group on the second floor was up too. I need to give them their soul gems. I guess I can give them a small space ring now that they are stuck here with me.

I don't know if I should give the men on the first floor space rings. I guess I should right? They are along for the ride now. I guess I can make that a dungeon gift for the people I like or deem worthy. Actually I haven't even been placing any of my enchanted jewelry since the fourth floor.

I've really dropped the ball on that one. I haven't even tried to make any new enchantments or jewelry. I have to dig through my memories to remember what I made. It takes a minute but I finally remember what I made.

I made a ring of health, a ring of defense, a ring of blending, a pendant of tracking, a bracelet of streghtening and a necklace of poison resistance all with or without the mana absorbing gem. I still can't believe I did all of this as a new born dungeon.

Phew. Looking back it did take me a few months to figure it out though. So I did work really hard on it. I don't remember what happened with the other items I made. I think I left them behind on some altar. Meh. Someone will find them. I'm not too worried about it.

I pinch myself again and focus on the second floor. It's dark but one of the women is awake. She's not being very vigilate though so I manage to put the seven soul empowering gems on the table. I hesitate for a moment before I also leave seven black space rings. They might as well all have one.

I move on to the first floor and glance around the floor before I focus on the cabins. The men are still sleeping thankfully. It seems they have adapted to the brightness, I even see a baton on the floor by one of the beds. Seems like they can handles themselves just fine.

I leave four black space rings on the table and leave. I won't check on them again until I get a notification about someones death or that they have moved on to the second floor. I begin to think about the list I created.

I think all I have left to do is to go over the memories of the men I had killed. That shouldn't take me very long though. Hopefully by then someone will have woken up and I'll have someone to watch for a little bit. I have never really taken the time to check out the group on the second floor.

It only takes me about ten minutes or so to go through the memories of each of the four scum bags that I killed. I will never understand how good people can end up raising such degenerates. The four had very similar backgrounds. Their families were average run of the mill farmers.

They weren't rich but they didn't lack for food or warmth. As they got older they decided to turn to crime and rape rather than honest hard work in the fields with their parents. They were all caught at some point or another and ended up being sold as slaves a few times before they wound up in the mines. The mines had been a reality check for them. It hadn't lasted long though. Obviously none of them ever had any intention of going down the straight and narrow.

I push their memories to the back of my mind and focus on the second floor to see if the group is awake yet. I find them all looking very confused at the items I left on the table. Now i'm a little confused. Don't either of them have an identify skill or something?

I guess I can write them a note. It would be a shame if they left the cabin because they were scared of the items I left and died to some monster. I think back to when Kat bonded with the ring. She had dropped a drop of blood on it and for the gem she had put it to her forehead.

I make sure to use the correct language and write out a short but sweet note to drop on the table.

Dear guest,

Thank you for visiting my dungeon and clearing the first floor. There is one space ring for each of you. Drop a drop of blood on it and it will bind to you. A gift from me to you. The soul empowering gem is the reward for clearing the first floor. Place it to your forehead to use. Also one a piece.

Thanks for staying.

I watched as the note flutters down to the table and the women freeze for a moment before one of them reaches for the sheet of paper.
