Lilith Pov
I'm trying to get past this feeling of sorrow but it's more complicated than I thought it would be. Some of those foxes had been with me since the beginning. I turned my focus to the second floor and have a complicated feeling bloom in my heart; were those children really worth losing ten years of family?
The part of me that was human screamed yes but my dungeon instincts tell me it isn't, that only by killing those children would I recover my losses. That's a pretty dark thought. I pull myself out of the downward spiral I seem to be falling in to and take a deep breath. I refuse to cross my bottom line. I won't kill children.
I pull up my notifications to distract myself.
[Congratulations! You have completed the task given to you by your Patron Goddess. You receive five hundred dungeon points for killing the serial killer.]
[Your Patron Goddess doesn't like to see you sad. She has activated the feature to revive all future monsters that are killed. She leaves the decision about what to do with the children up to you.]
That made me a little happier but I still missed my babies. I proceeded to go over my new loot, I got a sling bag made out of leather, a sword and some coins and some food. That guy turned out to be rather poor when it was all said and done. Just a few copper and silver coins.
I don't bother to change the loot drops. I decide to wash my hands of the children and leave them to Katherine. I will go back to back to making my floors and ignore them unless something weird happened again. I focus on my oasis and it brightens my mood considerably, all my monsters have settled in nicely but I still want to speed time up before I summon the larger monsters.
I speed through a couple of days in just thirty minutes and then I pull up my list of monsters. Sand cat, Gila monster, Fennex fox, Camel, Arabian Oryx, Desert tortoise, Mountain lion, Jerboa, Black tail jack rabbit, Big horn sheep and Armadillo lizard.
I summon thirty pairs of armadillo lizards, they drop an armour chest piece. Forty pairs of jerboas, they are so cute but they don't drop much meat. It's probably better used as bait and forty pairs of black tail jack rabbits they drop a good luck charm? Oh but beware it can also bring bad luck to the user. That's new.
I wait a little while before I crack and I spend the next hour fast forwarding through a week of time so I can summon more monsters. I summon forty pairs of big horn sheep, they drop a wool that cools? Nifty. Fifty pairs of desert tortoises, they drop a turtle umbrella? It blocks the sun and keeps the temperature low. That's great.
And fifty pairs of camels, they drop a sack of water that one was pretty obvious. I don't want to keep fast forwarding through time but it's actually pretty addicting. It does use a decent amount of mana though so I really shouldn't do it often.
I bring my attention back to the story on the wall in my pyramid, I might as well figure out as much as I can about my Pharaoh.
If I'm reading this mural correctly, and I'm not sure I am... This poor bastard was the youngest prince, born between a concubine and the Pharaoh. The older sons did not like him at all and tricked him in to meeting outside one early morning and killed him and hid him in this small pyramid where he would never be found.
Poor guy, if it gives him any comfort I'm sure at least one of the two brothers wound up in the same position as this poor kid. The fight to be Pharaoh or King is always a bloody one. I almost feel bad for bringing him to my dungeon, on the other hand I'm sure he's ready to be free again.
I'm a little hesitant to wake him up but I'm super curious if I can communicate with him. Meh. I'm gonna wake him up. I send a wisp of mana towards the sarcophagus to see if I receive a response. It takes a few moments before I get a response, a layer of dust spreads throughout the tomb as the top lifts off the coffin.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Oddly enough I'm seeing four arms? Did I read something wrong on the mural? The lid slams to the ground and another wave of dust spreads throughout the room. But when it clears I'm stunned to see two mummies that look just as confused as me. One is female, I think and the other is obviously the little prince from the story. He's just a little child.
My heart goes out for him. I spread my senses over them but I'm rather disappointed to find the female doesn't have a brain in her skull anymore. She's just a moving corpse, the little boy on the other hand is fully in tact without any funerary practices. I'm starting to figure this out I think.
Those terrible brothers actually snuck in to a pyramid and buried their brother there with whoever they could find. How awful. They desecrated a tomb and murdered their own brother. I hope they both died terribly. I ask the little boy to get out of the coffin and let the female zombie continue her peaceful slumber, I struggle to float the lid back on to her coffin but I manage.
I use a lot of silver, gold and gems from my fifth floor to make him his own coffin. It looks very modern compared to the larger one next to it but I like it. I nudge him towards it and I can see his little hand trembling as he reaches out to run his decripit fingers over it. I'm pretty sure I can see the outline of a smile of his face and it really lightens up the dark corner of my core.
I think I get brief moments of feeling from him but I'm not sure. I have to really focus on him to get anything back. He seems happy. I leave him be to explore the pyramid making it clear to not touch my core. I'm pretty sure he understands. I scan over the pyramid but I didn't find anything about the woman. Poor thing.
I bring my attention back over to the oasis and I find that it's actually dark. It's actually quite peaceful like this. I summon thirty pairs of Arabian Oryx they drop beautiful horns and thirty pairs of Gila monsters, they drop venom sacks and forty pairs of fennex foxes, they drop a small pelt but it's resistant to the sand.
I take moment to look over the monsters from the other list to see if there are any that catch my attention. Coyote, Kangaroo rat, Desert horned lizard, Addax, Meercat, Thorny devil, Bobcat, Desert spiny lizard, Mule deer, Desert hedgehog and Dromedary camel.
I purchase the kangaroo rat for one hundred and fifty dp, it drops a silver coin if you can find them hidden in the sand. I summon one hundred and then I purchase the meerkats for two hundred dp they drop an antivemon so that's necessary. I summon one hundred pairs of them.
And lastly I purchase the desert hedgehog for another three hundred dp because I thought it was a great addition and I summon fifty pairs of them. They drop a needle type weapon. I'm sure woman would love it.
When I summon the mountain lion and sand cat I have to remember that I already have a type of bobcat and I don't need to purchase it. I'm struggling to hold back my desire to check on Katherine but I'm not ready to see the children yet so I'll just bury myself in work.
Katherine Pov
After the appearance of the children it took them all a few weeks to get into a new routine. The children that were too young to level up would wander around the safe zone, they even put stones around the border so they wouldn't walk out on accident.
They would gather berries and vegetables, while Leto and her would hunt around the second floor. She spent the evenings showing them how to cook simple foods and trying to corral them long enough to teach them their numbers and some letters. It was one of the hardest jobs she had ever had to do.
Considering Leto only had a blunt dagger it was rather hard to help him level up at first but they came up with a system, she would bash their spines so they couldn't fight back and then she would stand guard as he would force his blunt dagger in to their throat to kill them and acquire some experience.
They started with the grass gazelles and then moved on to the little tunnel creatures that were hard to catch. The little black ferrets were adorable but equally aggressive, coupled with the fact that the prairie dogs would scream every time they saw them coming it was near impossible to catch them.
[Black tailed Prairie dog. Large rodents that are shy towards everything but their burrow companions the black footed ferrets. They use earth magic to create tunnels. They scream when they feel threatened hoping to be saved.]
[Black footed ferret. Aggressive and territorial. Sword and shield of the prairie dogs. They use an air slash to attack. In a large group they can scare off a honey badger.]
It took them a few days before they figured out to use the acorns and beetles in a trap so they could catch them. At first she was only interested in them so she would have all the figurines but after killing the second prairie dog she received a whistle and it just tickled her fancy.
She wanted one for all of the children. And so they hunted prairie dogs for a week before they were able to get a whistle for all of them.
[Prairie dog scream whistle. Will summon ten black footed ferrets to protect the summoner. Ten minute duration, can only be used once a day.]
The ferrets always put up a great fight and she has a decent amount of respect for them. They are tiny but mighty.
