Chapter thirty five

Katherine Pov

Time passed quickly, the two boys had turned twelve and she had started helping them level up just like she had for Leto, she didn't bother to learn their names though. She didn't want to become attached. It was bad enough she liked having Leto around.

It didn't take them long before they were over level ten and we're confident in fighting some of the monsters on this floor. She knew they would die in a heart beat if she wasn't with them though, so even though she was level twenty eight she still stayed on the second floor. Most of the time she just guarded the boys as they hunted and leveled up. The monsters on this floor were no longer a challenge to her.

At dinner that night she brought up the issue she had been holding back for a long time. She was ready to move on. What were they going to do? Will they stay on the second floor and continue to level up slowly or will they come with her to the third floor?

They don't look surprised at her words. The girls don't want to be separated from her and the boys are ready to take the risk. After two years on the second floor they were going to continue deeper in to the dungeon. They make sure to gather all the items they had collected over the last two years and go to bed after drinking some tea and honey.

After they woke up and had breakfast she made sure everyone understood their position in the formation. She would have Leto lead the way to the stairs and one boy would take each side of the group and she would bring up the rear with the five youngest in the center.

She didn't expect trouble on the way but it was always better to be prepared. Once they reached the stairs she would swap positions with Leto to make sure everything was clear on the third floor before bringing the children off the stairs.

When she arrived at the table with all the figurines; she recalled all the tough fights she had encountered on this floor. The fight against the pride of lions, she didn't think she would have lived through it if she didn't have her battle dress and Leto watching her back.

The time Leto tried to ride one of the Emu just for it to chase him around until she had to intervene and kill it. Killing the group of honey badgers that kept the bee hives to themselves for so many years. She was glad the system had told her to stay away from them but when it was all said and done they were easier to handle than she thought they would be.

She made it a point to take all the honey she could gather. And then she urged Leto to do the same. The morning she went out to ask the bees for honey and came back with a ring. That was a good morning. She didn't need it so she ended up giving it to Leto.

When she fought the honey badgers and she couldn't believe how aggressive they were for being so small. Good times. She was excited for the adventure to continue though. When they reached the stairs she shuffled the group around and made sure they followed closely behind her.

[Ring of defense. Powered by the users mana. Manifests a five foot ring around the user. Indestructible.]

As soon as her feet hit the stairs she started taking deep breaths to try and figure out what the next floor would hold. She wrinkled her nose. It smelled a little like sweet flowers with a hint of rotten egg. It wasn't overwhelming but you could smell it.

She wasn't looking forward to what came with it. When she reached the bottom of the stairs she was pleasantly surprised to find an underwater forest, she wasn't quite sure how else to describe it. Most of the tree roots were growing in the water, she hadn't see anything like it before.

The biggest down side was the solitary cabin by the stairs, they had grown used to the close cabins. She had the five youngest children enter the cabin while she taught the three of them how she would make her mental map.

It wasn't quite as easy with three people following her but she did her best, she panicked when the forest ended and she saw nothing but an island with a cabin. It wasn't far, she was confident that she could swim to it but she wasn't prepared. She figured that was where the stairs to the fourth floor was.

To her dismay they were harassed by monkeys almost the entire time they walked around the third floor perimeter. She found them extremely annoying.

She wished they would get close enough to use her skill on them but since she couldn't she did her best to ignore them. They did come across a couple of other cabins so they didn't all have to crowd into the one by the stairs.

It would complicate things for a little while but they could handle it. After getting past the light smell of rotten egg she really liked this floor. It was a little humid to love it but she wouldn't mind spending a few years here. She had seen some monsters that she was excited to fight against. She saw big cats and dears and foxes. They scurried around the mangrove forest.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

On the way back to the cabin they searched for dinner, they hunted a couple of rabbits and a couple of tree snakes and a skunk that did it's best to spray them down. Thankfully they we're able to kill it before it could do more than lift it's tail. They did encounter a black bear but she made everyone go around it, she didn't want to fight a bear just yet.

[Swimming rabbit. Adapt at swimming in the shallow waters of the mangroves. Uses water affinity to propel themselves away from predators.]

[Tree snake. Mildly aggressive non venomous snake that live in trees. Does it's best to look like a branch on a tree. Uses the nature affinity to grow branches to blend in with.]

[Spotted skunk. Nocturnal mammal that is an opportunistic hunter that sprays predators that get too close. The smell will follow you for a month. Uses water affinity to shoot water balls at prey.]

After they made it back to the safe zone by the stairs she made everyone some tea and then realized they were a bit short on bowls. She wanted to send Leto but she was a little hesitant about sending him out alone in the dungeon.

After thinking on it for a moment, she did ask Leto to go to the other safe zone they had passed by for more bowls and utensils. He did have that ring after all. They could leave them here if they wanted to.

While she waited she started prepping the rabbit meat for dinner, she had acquired the cooking skill about a year ago and now her hands practically moved on their own when she picked up ingredients. She liked how efficient it was.

After she got the cooking skill recognizing herbs and seasonings on the second floor was a breeze. She pulled out sage, terragon, ginger and covered the rabbit in them before putting it to the side to rest. She pulled out some of the wheat flour she had collected over the years and sighed.

She never thought she would see the day she would need a bigger storage ring, the space was full of honey and flowers she had dried for tea. There was also a small mountain of meat, pelts and spices but not many vegetables. The second floor had been lacking in that aspect. They had made due though. She mixed some water in to the flour and kneaded it together.

It wasn't much but it was enough to wrap the rabbit in. It only took a moment to wrap the rabbit in the dough and then she placed it in the pot on indirect heat for a few hours making sure to flip it to keep it from burning. Somehow she just knew when it would be finished cooking, skills were incredible.

Dinner was great. She was quite proud of herself. She made sure the boys got to their cabin before deciding to take another look around the third floor.

My ninth floor is coming along great! I started by summoning the bottom feeders available to me, the starfish. There were five types, Crown-of-thorns starfish, Red cushion sea star, Blue sea star, sunflower sea star and common starfish and I summoned two hundred of each to start with.

Oddly enough the Spiny lobster was in with the starfish, I summoned four hundred of those guys. I almost drooled at the thought of that much lobster. The fish list was longer but I made it simple by summoning them in groups of five hundred.

Needless to say a lot of fish, red Lionfish, Parrotfish, blue Tang, yellow Tang, Manta ray, Butterfly fish, Mandarin fish, Banded pipefish, blue damselfish and four-striped damselfish.

Then I'm interrupted by the ding of a notification. I pull up my notifications feeling a little nervous seeing as the last time I received a notification it led to a bloodbath on my first floor.

[Congratulations! Due to the effect of Open-minded people gain the most you have earned forty nine thousand one hundred dungeon points for your delver spending nine hundred and eighty two days on your second floor.]

[Congratulations! Due to the effect of Open-minded people gain the most you have earned three hundred and ninety two thousand dungeon points for your eight delvers spending nine hundred and eighty days on your second floor.]

Holy fucking shit. That's so much dp. I wonder if I should just quit being a dungeon and become a children's petting zoo. I giggle at the insane thought. People still wouldn't come who am I kidding. I make everyone a soul empowering gem but I hold off on giving it to them until they have settled.

Now that I have dp I ask the system to choose a ship it deems best for these waters and it suggest a sloop, a vessel with a single mast that doesn't require a large crew and comes with cannons equipped. It's simple but large and should have no problem getting around. It cost three thousand dp per boat.

That's crazy. I will only have three at a time then. The ships appear not far from the shallow end and makes a big splash. I whip up a quick boat dock by slamming two logs deep into the sand like flag poles.

That way the boats won't float away from the shallow end. I use large trees from my fourth floor. It's very crude but it will keep the boats in place.

Next on to the promised mansion! I go to the end of the floor. It's really freaky to see the water push up against an invisible boundary wall. I demolish the little hut I had made for myself and decide to pull out one hundred feet of beach. I can make the mansion basement house the stairs to the next floor.

I ask the system to construct me a mansion with six bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room, a top class kitchen or whatever passes for one in this world and a basement where I can later add the stairs to the tenth floor.

It's just as expensive as the boat but I'm gonna do it. Yet again the system just pops it out of no where and sets it down on my new beach area. It's two story and it feels Mediterranean. I love it.

I have begun to consider making myself an underwater cave as my dungeon core room, it's so beautiful at the bottom of this mini ocean and I can't get enough of it. Since it doesn't cost me anything to shape my dungeon, it's quick and easy to make a cave not far from the coral reef. I want to be able to see them at all time while I work.

I make my altar and start crafting my figurines for my table while I day dream. I wonder if I can make mermaids? Hmmm. I don't think I'm ready for something like that just yet, maybe on a deeper floor. It would be awesome to have mermaids that lured men to their deaths.

I wouldn't want them to be pretty though. Beautiful voice but haunting creatures. Sounds great. I can't wait till I can turn up the ante and start making some difficult floors. Now that I'm settled in my underwater cave I can go back to summoning my monsters on this floor.
