Even with out any creatures in my grasslands it was just breath taking, there were all sorts of flowers as far as the eye could see. It kind of reminded me of the field of flowers from Howls moving castle with some sparce trees to break it up.
There were even a few ponds of clean drinking water. I was very impressed. I could totally see my delvers loving this after enduring the frozen wasteland that is my first floor. After looking over the vast area I found it had a ton of familiar and unfamiliar vegetation and even some vegetables and berry bushes, nothing screamed poisonous to me but mother nature can be very deceptive.
After enjoying the scenery for a bit longer I decided to check out what my options would be for critters.
[Congratulations on choosing your second ecosystem. This ecosystem is incompatible with your current location, to make up for the shortcoming of monsters please choose one of the two groups below. Hint. If you spend dungeon points you may buy monsters you did not chose now at any time in the future.]
[Grassland choice one. Lion, Proghorn, Puma, Hyena, Prairie dogs, Giraffe, Emu, Birds, Insects. All choices have some form of mana.]
[Grassland choice two. Cheetah, Gazelle, Wolf, Honey Badger, Swift fox, Black ferret, Zebra, Birds, Insects. All choices have some form of mana.]
What an unexpected perk. I didn't expect to get so many different choices and they are pretty varied. I'm really happy to see both come with birds and insects, but most of all I'm really happy I recognize all these creatures, well I guess they count as monsters in my dungeon. It doesn't really make any difference to me. I already knew which one I was going to choose.
You never mess with a honey badger. Muahaha. I choose the second option and proceed to summon as many monsters as my little core can. Which isn't really a lot considering how big these guys are compared to my wolves on my first floor, it's going to take a few days or weeks at the very least to fill up my second floor.
I start with the insects, they should reproduce fast enough that as long as they have a few hours without predators their population should explode into something monstrous. I start with three queen bees with there own group of aphids and send them off, followed by twenty crickets, ten of each gender.
Then I made twenty beetles that glittered like polished jewels in tones of deep emerald greens and blues. For beetles they were gorgeous. And then finally I summoned three ant queens and let them decide their own spot to grow their colonies. I was really pleased with myself, it was only the beginning of my second floor and I knew it would be grand.
I let my bugs do their own thing, there's a lot of floor to cover down here, it's twice the size of my first floor after all. I bring my attention back up to my first floor, I'm not quite ready to move myself down to the second floor even though my instincts are telling me I should. I enjoy watching the light disappear outside my cave.
It's the only real interaction I have with the outside beside the occasional vole that comes in but I don't count those. I know. I know. Pennies add up but I want some more big critters to wander in. Give me a real challege. Muahaha. Wait a second... Was that a red flag? I'll have to pay attention up here so nothing gets passed me.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
I waited until my mana was all full but nothing happened so I sent my attention back to my second floor and I was really surprised. I'm not sure how long it takes my mana to fully recover but you can hear all the bugs down here. It makes me want to smile until my cores cracks.
Bees are fluttering around everywhere. It looks like the queens consider themselves sisters and have decided to rule all the flowers together. They took a different approach and actually encased a whole tree and built a hive around it. It was gorgeous and blew my mind. I don't think you would see this sort of thing on earth.
I could see tiny ant mounds in three very different places and even though it was quite a distance between them they still fought to the death anytime they crossed paths. So there was war brewing between the ants. That could be fun. The grasshoppers were heard more than they were seen. I'm sure that would change when the birds came to be but I was still pretty surprised at how loud they were.
There must be a ton. My birds will be happy I'm sure. And lastly it seemed like my beetles have decided to claim most of the other trees and they gave off an ethereal feeling. They look almost like dragon scales they way they clump together for protetion. I found it really beautiful and I really wanted to see if could make them in different colors, it really made my core go heart shaped just thinking about it.
I went a little crazy and summoned two gorgeous purple beetles, two fiery red beetles, four pretty blue beetles and then two yellow beetles so I had my bases covered. I hoped they would integrate well with the others and give me mind blowing colorful beetles. And then I swear I summoned as many pairs of birds as I could.
Greater prairie chickens, burrowing owls to torment the ants, ferruginous hawks, grasshopper sparrows, western meadlarks and aplomado falcons. That ought the keep the bugs quieter. And I'm pretty sure if any of the birds try to mess with the bees they will definitely end up drowned in honey.
I make sure to plant some more of my sparce trees so all my birds have places to live and sit back and admire my work for a second. I feel very proud of myself. While my first floor is pretty cool, my second floor is already amazing.
I still have some mana left but I feel ready to turn my focus back to the first floor. It won't be much longer before it becomes completely dark outside. I'm actually really looking forward to it. Not really sure why but I'm usually right so I'll just bide my time and wait patiently, it's not like I can go anywhere.
My first floor monsters don't seem to care that it's getting dark outside. Maybe they know better than I do. Honestly at this point I would be surprised. I still don't even know where I am in the universe. But anyway, I know I'm supposed to be saving mana for my second floor but I just had to do some experiments with the galena that I had in my mind.
In most novels they take pretty much any rock and pack it full of mana and bam it's a mana stone that pulls in mana so the monsters can eat it and power up or the other option is to use them as lights because they just glow beautifully.
Galena is beautiful but also useless, it's pretty much lead that looks like silver. I'm hoping it takes mana well and will become the stars in my dark cave. I want people to remember my dungeon forever. It took a lot of wasted mana but I finally managed to make my beautiful stars. I wished for a moon but not enough to spend dp on it.
Once it was fully dark outside I decided it was time to move myself to the second floor. I made sure to clear up my altar and just leave an empty basin area where people can leave donations. My instincts said let's go downstairs but my brain said let's go see some real stars so I went to the entrance of my dungeon and boy did I see them.
They were like nothing I had ever seen before. I could see shades of blues and purples out there like someone had painted the galaxy. It made me want to cry. I'm not sure how long I floated and stared before I let my instincts drive me down to the second floor. I felt blessed to have this second chance. I really did.
