Chapter 8

On her third day of school, Saneko made an effort to actually make it to school on time. Not because she cared about the actual studies, but because she needed to try something oddly specific. She stared out of the window that was next to her desk wistfully with her chin rested on her fist. It looked like she was in deep thought, but what she was actually thinking about was far from profound.

"I have such a main character vibe right now."

The bell for the first class rang and like always, the students' chatter immediately stopped. Mrs. Gaud stepped in and, instead of standing in front of the class, she walked directly over to Saneko. The students looked at the teacher as she passed all of them by. Saneko looked away from the window and up at her. Mrs. Gaud put one of her hands on Saneko's desk and began to speak to her.

"Listen. I had a discussion with Mr. Contray this morning. We thought it would be best if you were moved to another class."

Saneko looked around the class to see if she was talking to anyone else. Surely after Saneko's displays of power, they wouldn't be talking to her. She had actually convinced herself that the teachers and students were denying her power because they were scared of her.

"Oh, I see. You are horrified of my immense power. I understand, but I assure you, I will not be of trouble."

"Saneko, stop with the games. We all know you're not fit for this class. So please, grab your things and go."

Saneko's Purple Vision did indeed say that Mrs. Gaud's true intentions were to move her to another class, but Saneko continued to convince herself that it was due to their fear.

"You understand that moving me will only make your lives worse. It will anger me."

"Don't make a scene."

All of the students stared at the two of them. She stood from her seat and pointed at Mrs. Gaud dramatically.

"It has only been three days of school and you are already attempting to get rid of me. What insolent mortals!"

"Three days were enough to show your true colors. Besides, when Ms. Kay used Reader, it most likely said ERROR due to you not having any power cultivated.

The students started murmuring to each other. Of course, they didn't believe in Saneko's power either, however they were aware that Reader ranked power levels, not cultivated magic. Monsters who had no powers were still ranked with Reader, so Mrs. Gaud's logic didn't make much sense. Allan raised his hand and spoke up.

"Mrs. Gaud. We all know Reader made a mistake, but your logic is fallacious. Reader ranks power based on what that person is equivalent too. Saneko's cultivated magic shouldn't matter."

The other students started nodding in agreement with Allan's statement.

Saneko felt so much happiness when someone defended her. In her mind, she was very appreciative of what Allan said.

"THANK YOU!"

But Saneko couldn't show appreciation like that out loud. She considered it to be a form of weakness, and Demon Babe had no weaknesses.

"The lowly human is correct! Now what do you have to say for yourself, so-called teacher?"

Mrs. Gaud rolled her eyes. She really didn't want to have an argument this early in the morning, but it seemed like it was inevitable.

"Alright then. I'll be back."

She left the room and Saneko sat back down in her seat, putting her feet back on her desk with a smug look on her face. She thought she had the teacher beat, but in what felt like no time, Mrs. Gaud returned with a device in her hand that looked like black plate. She walked back up to Saneko and put it on her desk. Saneko looked at it and lowered her feet from the desk.

"What is this?"

"It's a device that estimates how many powers you have by glowing. Reader is an innate ability and is far more reliable, but I suppose we'll have to use this just to see instead."

Saneko smirked and put her hand on the plate without any hesitation. She knew her powers far exceeded everyone else's, so this shouldn't be a problem in the slightest. Despite her having her hand on the plate, nothing happened. Saneko tilted her head a bit, wondering why it didn't do anything.

"You have forgotten to turn on the device."

"It turns itself on when it senses magic touching it. Look."

Mrs. Gaud placed her hand on the plate and it started glowing within a second. To the other students, that was the nail in the coffin. Even though it was an unreliable machine, it always glowed when someone with magic touched it, regardless of how weak the magic was. It wasn't exact, but it could at the very least sense magic. Saneko wanted to say something, but she remembered that she did not ever cultivate any magic in her life, so she really couldn't say anything.

"Okay Saneko. Let's get you to another class.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

"These tests are irrelevant. Allow me to just show you myself!"

Saneko reached out her arm, and it started to glow with that familiar purplish black hue. The teacher was taken aback, as were the other students. They did not expect Saneko to actually have any sort of abilities.

"You ignorant fools! I clearly do have abilities and it is as clear as day!"

"Wow. I guess I was wrong, but still. Just because you can make, what, a purple aura? How is that supposed to qualify you for HRS status? Practically every student in the school can do that. 1st graders can probably do that."

Saneko gritted her teeth in anger. She wanted to destroy the entire school at that very moment, but she didn't want to upset her parents. She might be punished with no banana smoothies after all, which was a fate worse than death. Even with her restricting herself, her anger was palpable, literally. The gravitational pull of the Earth was becoming more and more erratic. She was trying to calm herself down as much as possible, so the distortion wasn't that noticeable, but it was still there.

Chloe had stronger senses than most people. She was honestly more qualified to teach at this academy then most of the teachers. She naturally could feel this and her heart started beating faster. This was the third time she had witnessed some sort of anomaly with Saneko involved. She looked around, but like before, no one seemed to notice. Mrs. Gaud grabbed Saneko's wrist and was no longer playing games.

"You will move, and if you don't, I will have to expel you."

Saneko's fists clenched. She wanted to speak, but she was losing her cool, and her voice might go up a few decibels if she tried to speak right now, which she couldn't risk. Chloe started to breathe heavily as she felt the pressure of the air around her thicken ever so slightly. One of the students next to Chloe noticed her discomfort, and was confused by it.

"What's wrong Chloe? You having a panic attack or something?"

Chloe didn't respond. She couldn't respond. She was too focused on the trouble Saneko might cause. She looked over at Mrs. Gaud who was attempting to pull Saneko. Saneko's eyes were filled with anger and Chloe knew this wasn't good.

"MRS. GAUD STOP!"

Chloe stood up as she said this. The entire class looked at her, as did Mrs. Gaud and Saneko. Mrs. Gaud let go of Saneko and the gravitational pull of the Earth started to return to normal. Chloe began to calm down as well.

"What's gotten into you Chloe?"

"I... can sense great potential in Saneko. I'm sure she can learn really quickly, so just give her a chance."

"While I appreciate your enthusiasm, HRS is very serious. People here can possibly get very important jobs and even move on to be heroes in the future. We can't waste our time teaching someone not ready for that. That's what the other classes are for."

"No, just... give her a week. I'm sure I can tutor her."

Saneko didn't know whether to be happy or mad. She liked the fact that someone was standing up for her, like earlier, but she still had a deep preconceived notion about Chloe. She'd rather it be anyone else. However, Saneko noticed that Chloe's intentions weren't to tutor her, they were to save the world. Saneko stood tall and pointed over at Chloe. This was her opportunity to show everyone the truth.

"That student does not wish to tutor me. She was aware of my true power and wished to save the world from destruction!"

This statement caused the class to grow even more confused than they already were. Saneko then looked over to face Chloe. She gave off an arrogant smile to her and Chloe's breath hitched in her throat. Her mind ran wild.

"I don't believe it. Can she read my mind? Who is this girl... or demon... or whatever she is."

Mrs. Gaud shook her head and took an exasperated breath. She had enough of Saneko for the day and it was getting later. Class needed to start sometime.

"Sure she did. Whatever, I'll give you a week Saneko. If you can't prove yourself until then, we'll have a problem, but don't worry. You should have a chance tomorrow as we're probably going to do some tournaments to rank the HRS students in order. I'll be waiting to see if you can actually do anything."

With a confident snort, Saneko sat back down in her seat and began looking out of the window again. Sana, who sat across from Chloe, turned to face her. Chloe was still standing up, staring at Saneko.

"What's wrong Chloe? Was Saneko actually telling the truth?"

Chloe remained silent. She didn't know what Saneko was. How could someone with no magic value break Reader and disrupt the natural order of physics by just standing still. It didn't make any sense.

"Chloe? Earth to Chloe."

Sana's voice went in one ear out the other as Chloe stood frozen.

As Saneko stared out the window, she anxiously thought about what the teacher said about tomorrow's events.

"A tournament? Like, an actual tournament. OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD! Just like the anime! This can't be real! EEEEEEH!"

As the hours passed, Saneko payed absolutely zero attention the the actual studies as she was so anxious for tomorrow's events. When the classes concluded, and she left the building, walking down the streets with her hands in her suit pockets like always. She looked to the ground as she walked, thinking about various things. She suddenly heard a voice call out behind her that caught her attention.

"DEMON BABE! DEMON BABE IT'S YOU!"

Saneko turned around to see the boy she helped the day before running up to her.

"MY DISCIPLE! *Ahem* I mean, ah my disciple. What brings you to your almighty and beautiful master at this time of day?

Once the boy approached her, he leaned over to catch his breath. He spoke in-between breaths.

"I would really like for you to teach me your ways! I have always wanted to cultivate power, but I still don't know how to."

Saneko laughed to herself arrogantly. She loved the idea of having a disciple. She didn't know anything about cultivation though, so she tried to mask it with her power alone.

"I tell you with utmost honesty, it will be impossible to be as great as me, however, if you follow my every word, I assure you that you will achieve great things in your life!"

"Wow really?"

"Indeed."

"That's amazing! And by the way, Ms. Demon Babe, I have a question. Do you know my name?"

"Well of course I know your name! I know everything!"

"YOU REALLY DO? WHAT IS IT?"

"It's umm... well... It's... a bad idea to test me, for you already know of my immense power, and if you have forgotten..."

Saneko pointed to an empty playground that was behind them. The boy turned around to see it, and Saneko used her telekinesis to make it float up out of the mulch. The boy stared in awe at Saneko's power. When she placed the playground back down in the ground, she struck a confident pose.

"As you can see, testing me is quite foolish."

"You are right! Please forgive me Ms. Demon Babe!"

Saneko patted the boy's head and turned back around. She was happy she got away with that.

"I must go, for my domain awaits me."

In reality, she just wanted to binge-watch a show called "The Story of The Strongest Prince". It had been on her watch list for quite a while now.

"But wait, what about my ball?"

"I shall see you later."

Saneko teleported away to her house. Most people would have seen right through Saneko's arrogant front, but she did have undeniable powers and the boy had only seen a fraction of it. He was well aware of that as well, which only made him admire Demon Babe even more.
