Chapter 4

After all of the HRS class students were counted, the students filed into the school and headed off to the gymnasium where the principal would assign each student their class. Saneko followed the students without thinking much about it until she heard a voice call out to her. It was Ms. Kay.

"Saneko, where are you going?"

Saneko turned around to see Ms. Kay standing behind her with a large group of students. Saneko turned back around to see all of the other students entering the gym, and a confused expression grew on her face.

"I'm... following everyone else."

"Those students are being assigned to classes. You have already been assigned to the HRS class."

"Oh... okay."

Saneko had absolutely no clue what an HRS class was as she missed that part of the principal's speech. All she knew was that the vice principal was ranking some students' power levels for some reason, and she simply used it as an excuse to show off.

Saneko began walking alongside the rest of the students and Ms. Kay to the HRS class. Some of the other students she was with started whispering to each other about Saneko, remembering her as the girl who randomly shouted about her ranking just a few minutes ago.

"That girl with the horns. She's the one who was shouting earlier right?

"I think so. And what did she call herself?"

"Demon girl or something."

"No, I think it was Demon Babe."

"Is she serious?"

"I don't know. I mean it was obvious Reader made a mistake. Why is she with us?"

"I have no clue."

Saneko, of course, could hear all of their whispers. She surprisingly didn't take offense to it though. In fact, it excited her. If no one believed her, that would just make their expressions all the more surprised when she finally showed off her true power to them. Saneko couldn't help but imagine various scenarios in her mind of how this would play out.

"No way, this is too perfect. I could be just like the protagonist from "Pretending to Be Weak, but I'm Actually an SS+ Rank Hero"

She squealed to herself in excitement, still thinking about all the possible ways she could show off to her classmates in the near future.

Ms. Kay walked up to a specific classroom. There was a sign on the door that said "HRS". Obviously, this was the class that they were all assigned to. She opened the door and put out her hand to welcome them into the classroom.

"Welcome to your class everyone. Your teacher is probably in the gymnasium right now, but she will appear shortly. Until then, make yourselves comfortable and find a desk you like."

As the students walked in, most of them looked around the room in awe. It was a standard classroom, but just the idea that this is where the high ranking students would be studying filled them with excitement. There were about 15 students in total that ranked 10 or higher, so there weren't too many seats. Most of the students immediately chose seats that were closest to the door, or closest to the board. Saneko, on the other hand, had a different idea. She immediately ran towards the very back corner of the class, picking a seat in the very back that was right next to the windows.

"JUST LIKE ALL THE ANIME!"

She excitedly took a seat. Attempting to appear mysterious and aloof again, she leaned back in her seat and put her feet on the desk, crossing one leg over the other. She put her arms behind her head and let out one of her usual smirks. As she closed her eyes, her delusions took over and her mind began to wander about what the other students were possibly thinking at the moment.

"They probably have never seen someone as in control as I am. They're probably wishing they were me right now. Ha! How can I blame them? Anyone would want to be me."

In truth, none of the other students even noticed her existence. They were too busy either finding a seat or talking to each other about their excitement. This didn't stop Saneko's delusions from running wild though.

After all of the students had gotten settled into the class, the door opened and a woman with long blonde hair and brown eyes walked in. The students who were talking immediately ceased their chatter and looked up at her. She stood in the front of the class and spoke up loud enough for everyone to hear her.

"Hello everyone. I am Mrs. Gaud. I will be your teacher. First of all, I want to congratulate all of you for making it into the HRS class. That is a very good achievement all of you should be proud of."

One student, a boy with dirty blonde hair and grey eyes named Ken Rein, raised his hand and started speaking.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

"I don't mean to offend you but, your name is Mrs. Gaud? Like... the deity?"

"Not God, Gaud. Pronounced the same, but spelled differently."

She turned to the whiteboard and picked up a marker before she wrote her name of the board, big enough so everyone could see. G-A-U-D. After she wrote this, she put the marker down and turned around to face the class once again.

"Anyway. Today, we will be doing something relatively easy... aaaaand is that a girl with horns in the back of the class?"

The entire class turned around to look at Saneko, sitting there with her feet still on the desk and her arms still behind her head. She let out a scoff and spoke in a humorless voice.

"Is there a problem? Or are you just trying to deflect as you have nothing else to say in the presence of a superior being."

Saneko's serious and cocky tone were in stark contrast to her thoughts.

"FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY! I'M GETTING ATTENTION! EEEEEH!"

Mrs. Gaud shook her head as if trying to forget whatever Saneko was talking about. The words "superior being" caused the class to feel secondhand embarrassment for her, but she didn't see anything wrong with it at all.

"Anyway, as I was saying, we will be doing something relatively easy today. As you probably know, high ranking cultivators can create auras around themselves, the brighter the aura, the greater your power. It's pretty self explanatory. So, Umm... Mark, I read that you applied for student council as the president, so you should go first."

Mark nodded and stood up. He closed his eyes and started breathing in and out to focus all of his energy on his aura. He began to shine with a sparkly golden hue. It was very beautiful and the students stared at him, both amazed and jealous.

"Very good mark. You may now take a seat. Uh, Cynthia, you can go next."

As Mark sat down, a girl named Cynthia Strider stood up. She had medium length black hair and brown eyes. When she stood up, she did the same thing as Mark, closing her eyes and breathing in and out. Her aura was a more saturated color of yellow, not near as sparkly or as big as Mark's, but still very visible nonetheless.

Mrs. Gaud nodded her head seeing Cynthia's aura. While it wasn't as powerful as Mark's, it was definitely worthy of HRS status.

"Excellent. Chloe can go next."

Cynthia sat down and Chloe stood up. Without even trying, a bright green aura radiated from her body. The students gasped and let out shocked murmurs to each other at how amazing it was. There was no delay or preparation. She simply radiated with a beautiful bright green aura as if it were nothing. Mrs. Gaud gave Chloe a round of applause, as did the other students.

"Amazing! I didn't see anything about you signing up for the student council, but I highly encourage you to do so. You could help us all out in times of danger."

"Oh well thank you Mrs. Gaud, but if I want to help, I can do so without the adulation of being in the student council. I just think it's a lot of pressure, but I appreciate your kind words."

Chloe then sat back down. Saneko stared at her from the back of class. It was obvious to Saneko who this girl was. In her mind, she thought about her distain for the type of person Chloe was.

"So she's the perfect girl trope huh. Classic, but I really really really hate that trope. Welp, no problem, I am superior after all. I will blow her out of the water and all the attention will belong to no one but me in due time."

Mrs. Gaud looked around the class and noticed Saneko's silver hair and demon horns again. It made her stand out anywhere she went.

"Hey, horns and cowlick girl. I do not exactly know what your whole deal was with calling yourself a superior being earlier, but hey, let's see what you got."

Saneko took the opportunity to look away in a disrespectful manner.

"Such insolence. Refer to me as Demon Babe, as that is the vigilante I am."

The secondhand embarrassment was growing stronger and all of the students couldn't stand it. Mrs. Gaud let out a bewildered sigh and shook her head again. She could not believe this girl was serious.

"Okay 'Demon babe', give it all you got."

Saneko stood up from her chair and gave off a menacing smile, but there was nothing that followed it. The students held their breaths waiting for something to happen, but after a few seconds passed, they started to look at each other, wondering what was going on. The teacher looked around, totally confused.

"Um... superior being, any second now."

Her sarcasm was not lost on Saneko, so she let out another scoff and shook her head. She loved the idea of showing off to people who didn't believe her.

"Oh, not a strong enough aura. How about this then? I'll amplify it just for you."

Despite her words, nothing happened. There was no visible aura at all. Not a soul in the class was taking Saneko seriously in the slightest and the silence in the class was telling. The teacher winced as if to say "yikes" as Saneko was doing nothing but making her nonexistent reputation even worse.

Meanwhile, at NASA a scientist let out a loud scream of pure terror. The chief scientist ran inside almost immediately after and looked around to see what had happened.

"What happened? What's wrong?"

The scientist was almost incoherent, mumbling to himself, staring at one of the graphs on a computer.

"The... it... th...the... sky..."

The chief narrowed his eyes and walked up to a window before opening the blinds and looking outside. It was a sunny day with not a cloud in the sky.

"What's wrong with the sky? It's beautiful out today."

The scientist was hyperventilating and shook his head vehemently. He pointed to the graph, which was going haywire, and his entire body was trembling from fear.

"No. You can't see it from here, but the natural colors of our solar system have been disrupted. It's almost like it has been engulfed in a purple hue."

The chief walked up to the graph to analyze it, and he was correct. Even since cultivation was discovered, and monsters had been frequently attacking Earth, nothing like this had ever happened before.

"Is it a monster? What is this?"

"I have no clue! I'm completely lost here!"

Mrs. Gaud let out a deep exhale and looked at Saneko with a disappointed expression.

"Okay, we'll talk about this later. Kal, how about you go next."

"Yes ma'am."

Saneko sat back down and put her feet back on the desk. She was very proud of herself despite everyone's reaction. Despite her immense intelligence, her delusions constantly got the best of her.

"They were left speechless! EEEEEEEH!"

The graph on the computer screen at NASA started to go back to normal and the chief scientist held out his hands in confusion.

"What? What just happened?"

The scientist got back up and also looked at the graph, his heart rate returning to normal. As his breathing also calmed, he studied the graph intently. All of the natural colors of the solar system had returned to normal. It was like nothing even happened in the first place.

"That's impossible. I... I don't even know how to explain this."

"Yeah, me neither. The only thing similar to this that has ever happened was that weird feeling everyone on Earth simultaneously had back in 4062."
