Saneko was sitting in front of her laptop later in the day. She was scrolling with one hand while she rested her head on the other. The website she was on was an anime streaming service known as Chewyroll. She had purchased the subscription a while back, but usually never scrolled as she always knew exactly what she wanted to watch. This time it was different though, because she had dropped the previous show she was watching.
She looked as if she was barely awake as she scrolled. The light of the screen reflected in her purple eyes as she stared at it without blinking. Despite that, she was still aware enough to sense when something was off.
"I can sense you there N."
"Of course you can."
Nakialia slowly walked up and stood behind her, peering over her shoulder to see what she was looking at.
"Looking for another power fantasy?"
"Yup."
Saneko's reply was curt. It felt like there was still lingering tension between them from their previous argument.
"Are you still mad at me?"
"Nope."
"Yeah you are. Usually you wouldn't respond with such short replies."
"I don't hold grudges. I'm just mad because I can't get banana smoothies."
"You're still mad about that?"
"Who wouldn't be?"
Nakialia exhaled through her nose, not sure if she should believe Saneko or not.
"That's the only reason why you're mad?"
"No. I also had to take care of some girl that passed out just because I scared her. Why can't I just show off my powers without any consequences?"
"Probably because you always take it too far. What did you even do to this girl to scare her so badly.
"I tapped her on the shoulder."
Nakialia didn't believe her for a second. That was far too tame for Saneko. And what kind of person would get so scared that they passed out just because someone tapped them on the shoulder? It made no sense.
"I know you're lying."
"I'm not a liar."
Saneko continued scrolling, not looking away from her screen for even a second.
"Okay, and let's say you are telling the truth. How long did you have to take care of her?"
"Eh, maybe a minute. And then I abandoned her at a playground."
"You are an awful human being."
"Am I even human?"
"Good point."
Saneko then suddenly stood up excitedly, staring at her screen with a large smile on her face. Her sudden movement startled Nakialia.
"YES!"
"What the hell is it?"
"I FOUND ANOTHER ANIME!"
"Oh god."
"It's called 'How Many People Can I Mind Control?'. I can already tell the main character is going to be super cool!"
No matter how many times it happened, Nakialia could never wrap her head around why Saneko loved these stupid shows so much. She wanted to say something about it, but she would just sound like a broken record at this point. Saneko simply waved her off before sitting back down on her chair.
"If you don't mind, please allow me to watch this intellectually stimulating piece of media in peace."
She rolled her eyes and turned away. At least it was obvious that Saneko didn't really hold a grudge against her. That's all she really cared about anyway.
"Alright. I'll see you later."
Saneko wasn't even paying attention anymore, she had already pressed play on the video and put all of her attention on the screen. Nakialia scoffed at how quickly she got distracted, and disappeared, returning back to heaven for the time being. Saneko was essentially jumping in her seat, excited to see what the show was going to be about. She didn't really have to guess considering the name spoke for itself.
Just then, someone burst through the wall, destroying both the table and the laptop in the process. Saneko sat in her chair, still staring at where the computer once was, completely frozen. The person who had broken through the wall was Venomous from the Hero Foundation. He had fully healed from his wounds and was floating in the air right before her.
"According to our records, you must be Saneko Sarakana, also known as Demon Babe. Queen of Dying Star."
Saneko looked up at Venomous, her expression not changing, although rage was coursing through her veins. She stood up from her chair and looked over her shoulder to see the remains of her desk and laptop. She turned back to the hero and spoke in a very chilling voice. Being recognized as Demon Babe by a hero from the Hero Foundation would usually be one of the most exiting things possible for Saneko, but right now, she had something else on her mind.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
"You not only destroy my only source of entertainment while I'm grounded, but you also see me in my lazy clothes. Tch~ such insolence will not be tolerated."
Venomous looked down at her and lowered himself onto the ground.
"I am not here to harm you. I was just sent here as an assignment. The Hero Foundation started taking your country seriously after you defeated a bunch of otherworldly knights. We tried to visit your country, but you were never there, so we accessed some satellites and ended up finding you here. And before you deny that it was you, no one else has silver hair and demon horns."
"Oh, you think I am scared of you harming me?"
"That's not what I'm saying. I'm just..."
But before he could finish his sentence, Saneko reached out her arm violently, using telekinesis to send Venomous flying backwards so fast that he went into orbit within seconds. Saneko teleported behind him and held him up by the collar. Both were now floating in space with the globe underneath them.
"I don't care what you came here for. You destroyed something dear to me. Now I'll destroy you!"
Venamous shook his head vehemently as he held his breath, not able to breath is space.
"Oh, the poor cultivator can't breath in space."
She tossed him back down to Earth. He screamed at the top of his lungs as his body started heating up in the atmosphere. As his body continued to fall, a little girl eating ice cream with her mom pointed up to the sky.
"Look mommy. A shooting star."
"Oh sweetie, that's not a shooting star. That's just a man."
"Oh, okay."
The two went back to eating their ice cream.
Venomous crashed back down to Earth. His collision causing a massive crater that was luckily in an empty field. Saneko teleported back down to him and aimed her finger gun at him, it of course was glowing with the purplish black Peacemaker ability.
"You NEVER destroy my things!"
He groaned in pain, but managed to look at Saneko's finger. He remembered this ability from the headlines that were all over the news, knowing that this was some sort of non-physical ability that would definitely kill him instantly. He started to reach his hands out and beg for mercy.
"I DIDN'T MEAN TO! THE HERO FOUNDATION TOLD ME TO COME AND RECRUIT YOU! WE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT YOU WERE FIT TO BE ONE OF US!"
Saneko's expression softened and she put her hand down. As his words sunk in, Saneko's face grew more and more excited.
"THE HERO FOUNDATION SUMMONED ME?"
Venomous was confused by the sudden change in her personality. He started to calm his breathing and put his arms down.
"Uh... yeah... why are you acting like that?"
Realizing that she let her true self out for a moment, she immediately crossed her arms and looked at the hero coldly.
"What are you talking about?"
Hearing her serious voice again made him reach out his arms to beg for mercy again.
"NO! I'M SORRY! I DIDN'T MEAN TO QUESTION YOU?"
"Whatever. Just wait here."
Saneko teleported away, which caused Venomous to gasp. He had never once witnessed someone teleport before.
When Saneko arrived back in her room, she immediately started putting on her school uniform like she always did when she wanted to be taken seriously. As she started to straighten her tie, her parents walked in the room. Her dad looked around with a completely flabbergasted expression.
"We were out getting potting soil for the garden, and when we came home and put it in the shed, we saw a massive hole in the wall. And of course, it's from your room. What's going on?"
"Dad, don't get mad. I'm going to be hired at the Hero Foundation!"
Upon hearing this, her mom immediately spoke up.
"Nuh uh! You're grounded remember? And plus, that's far too dangerous."
"BUT MOM!"
"No buts. That's the end of the story."
"THAT'S NOT FAIR!"
Her dad pointed to her threateningly and spoke in a very serious tone.
"If you don't comply, you may have to be grounded for longer."
Saneko didn't know what to say. She couldn't believe this. Being accepted into the Hero Foundation was one of the greatest achievements any cultivator could make. Granted, she wasn't a cultivator, but in her mind it didn't matter.
"YOU LET ME MAKE A COUNTRY BUT YOU WON'T LET ME JOIN THE HERO FOUNDATION?"
"Joining the Hero Foundation is, like, 2 trillion times more dangerous."
"BUT DAD!"
"No buts."
"UGH!"
Her parents left the room and closed the door, but her dad spoke one more time, just loud enough for her to hear him through the door.
"Oh, and use your orange Color Spectrum ability to fix the wall."
"THIS IS NOT FAIR AT ALL!"
She fell to her bed and whimpered to herself. First her banana smoothies, then her laptop, and now her dreams. This was the worst week ever for her. She looked over at the broken wall with sad eyes. She reluctantly used her orange vision to repair the wall. She fixed the wall in only a few seconds, and immediately went back to sulking in her bed again.
"I never get anything I want!"
This was an obvious lie, but she was being overdramatic as always.
As the sun began to set, Venomous laid there, injured in the empty field. He stared up at the sky that was painted orange due to the sunset, waiting for Saneko to return
"Any second now..."
When the next day arrived, Venomous returned to the Hero Foundation, limping from his injuries. Once he got into the main office, he leaned against a wall to give himself some stability. In the office was the president of the Hero Foundation, sitting in an office chair. He turned to see Venomous standing there, and his expression turned concerned.
"You got hurt again?"
"Yes. From Saneko."
"So you did confirm that Saneko was indeed Demon Babe?"
"Yeah, but it was all for nothing. She beat me with only two attacks and was about to kill me until I told her what I was there for. She implied that she would return, but she never did."
"Hmm. She's probably trying to mess with us. I thought we could recruit her, but I guess this proves that she was never on our side anyway."
"Yeah. I agree."
"Well, we'll figure this out later. For now, you should go to the Injury Center to get better."
Venomous nodded and was about to head off until he remembered a detail he hadn't mentioned. He turned back to the president and began to speak again.
"I uh... I forgot to say this, but I don't think Saneko's a cultivator."
"Hm? What do you mean?"
"She teleported. We all know that teleportation is completely outside of mortal limits because it requires someone to remember a place absolutely perfectly, down to every detail including ever spec of dust and even every subatomic particle. No cultivator can do that as cultivation was discovered by humans. We are, at the end of the day, limited by our human perspective."
"So Saneko not being a cultivator would automatically mean she's not a human as well. Is that what you're getting at?"
"I... I think so."
"I see. We still have satellites watching her. It should be fine."
The president pulled out his tablet and opened an app. He turned it around to show Venomous the screen, and on it was a satellite aiming directly down at the Sarakana household.
"We'll see what she is capable of, and we won't miss anything."
As Venomous stared at the screen, it began to glitch out before it completely turned to static. Venomous pointed at the tablet, gesturing to the president that something was wrong.
"Sir, what happened?"
"What do you mean?"
The president flipped his tablet back around to see the staticky screen. He tapped the screen a few times but nothing happened.
"I don't know. It doesn't say we lost connection to the satellite."
Venomous gulped and started walking down the hallway to the Injury Center while the president was focused on the tablet, trying to fix it. Venomous didn't know what happened, but he knew for sure that it was Saneko's doing.
As Saneko continued to sulk in her bed, she stared at the ceiling lifelessly. She had a feeling that she was being watched and she didn't know why, but that feeling subsided. Now she just felt like she wanted a banana smoothie.
