Chapter 23

In an office with a large and circular table, two men sat. One was dressed very formally, wearing a suit and tie, while the other was dressed more casually, wearing jeans and a white t-shirt. The man in the suit was sitting up straight, while the other was slouching in his chair, not looking serious at all.

"Your fellow heroes are still recovering from the beast attack in Brazil a few days ago. I think it would be best if you worked alone for a while. I understand it is dangerous, but you three were the greatest in our foundation."

The other man had his head leaned back, barely paying attention to what was being said.

"Yeah yeah. I understand."

"You don't sound like it. You are Light Strike, a level 67 cultivator. You have to realize how serious your position is in this world is."

"Dude I get it. It's just that Imaginia and Venomous are just, like, super invested in saving people and stuff. Why do I have to care?"

"Because it's your job! You are one of the few heroes this world has, and it seems like we are being attacked more frequently now."

"I'm just doing what I have to do man. Doesn't mean I have to like it."

The man in the suit scratched the sides of his head, getting frustrated with his attitude. Light Strike was a very apathetic person. He failed all of his classes that had to do with intelligence. He was only saved by his high cultivation rank, letting him get a very good job as one of the heroes in the Hero Foundation.

"We are trying to find more cultivators to work for us, so don't worry, you won't have to do this for too long. But try your hardest to put up with it until we find another hero, alright?"

"Ugh man, just get that girl."

"What girl?"

"You know, the one with the demon horns and that one lock of hair that stands up all the time. The one that's been on TV for, like, the past three days."

"We don't even know who that is. We have no information on her. Why would she be a good pick?"

Light Strike clicked his tongue and started to sit up a little straighter. Taking a deep breath, he turned to the man and began speaking, more seriously than usual.

"Because she's definitely the same person who beat the monster in Brazil. And plus, you know how Imaginia has that weird fortune telling ability that's, like, wrong 90% of the time?"

"Yeah? What of it?"

"She said, like, something about how she could sense a great power. She didn't say much else except for the fact that the power is from the truth."

"Truth? What does that mean?"

"How should I know? But what I'm trying to get at is that she kept calling it the "Silver Truth" and wouldn't shut up about it. That girl from that new Dying Star country has silver hair, so I thought about it. Maybe you should recruit her."

"Like I said, we know nothing about her. I feel like you're just trying to get out of this."

Light Strike leaned back in his chair again and put his arms behind his head. He huffed a bit angrily.

"Whatever dude. I'm just saying that I think this girl is the Silver Truth Imaginia was so hyped up about. And besides, it doesn't really matter if it is or it isn't. It's not like there are any beasts attacking right now."

In the Cintianta district of Mishna, one area that had not been attacked yet, the angel-winged knight walked the streets, holding its sword tightly. People in the district, and the entire city for that matter, were used to hiding from anything that seemed even the least bit out of the ordinary, so even though this area was intact, everyone was hiding inside their homes. People would watch, peeking out of their blinds, but that was the furthest they would go.

The entity breathed heavily through its mask as it walked through the streets eerily. It held its sword upside down, letting the blade scrape against the ground.

"I know you are here."

Meanwhile, in the HRS class, Saneko was standing on her chair with one leg, placing the other on the top of her desk. She spoke up loud and obnoxiously.

"DOES ANYONE ELSE HERE WISH TO CHALLENGE ME?"

All of the students in the class had moved their desks to be as far away from her as possible. Like always, they stared at her with deadpan expressions, but this time at least, they knew of her powers which brought Saneko a great sense of happiness.

"Ah. You all fear me. Excellent!"

In her mind, Saneko was doing cartwheels in joy. She was going to soak in this attention for as long as possible.

"I did it! I have been having so many main character moments in the course of just a few days! Are you proud of me, various power fantasy protagonists?"

It was worth noting that Mrs. Gaud had not entered the room yet, despite the classes starting almost five minutes ago. It seemed like Saneko's previous actions left a stain on her mental state. This was becoming par for the course it seemed.

Mr. Contray opened the door to the HRS class and looked at Saneko who was standing on her desk. His expression darkened quickly.

"Get down. We need to talk in the office."

Saneko bit her tongue, trying her hardest not to scream in excitement. She wasn't thinking about if she would get in trouble or not. Instead, she was thinking about how fearful the school staff must be of her.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

"EVERYONE IS RECOGNIZING ME! THIS ACTUALLY CAN'T BE REAL! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT!"

Saneko jumped down from her desk and put her hands in her pockets, walking past the class suavely. Her smirk showed off her teeth as she was feeling very confident in that moment. Mr. Contray waved her on and once the two were in the hallway, he began walking in the direction of the office. Saneko followed him and cocked her head to the side.

"My powers are quite amazing aren't-"

"Shut up."

As he cut her off suddenly, Saneko stopped talking, a little surprised. Her mouth was open as if she was still going to finish her sentence, but she ended up closing it and narrowing her eyes with frustration.

"You dare to speak to the almighty Demon Babe that way?"

The principal didn't respond. He simply continued walking down the hallway. Saneko looked up with Purple Vision to see that his true intentions were to expel her from the school. Letting out one of her usual scoffs, Saneko spoke in a purposefully menacing tone, hoping it sounded as cool as she thought it did.

"So you want to expel me?"

Mr. Contray stopped in his tracks when she said that. Saneko also stopped behind him. His back was still turned to her, and he didn't move an inch. Saneko found this quite humorous.

"What's wrong? Scared?"

She couldn't help but taunt him. Resisting the urge to taunt was like resisting the urge to breathe for Saneko.

"It's early in the year. Why are you doing this?"

His voice sounded sad, almost on the verge of tears. Saneko was taken aback by the sudden change in his personality.

"Isn't this guy supposed to be the principal of an academy for cultivation? Why the hell is he so scared? Well, never mind. Who can blame him? It is me after all."

Saneko was giggling to herself as she thought these things. Mr. Contray turned to her and unexpectedly started yelling at her, his voice cracking as he spoke.

"JUST GET OUT!"

"Nah."

Picking her index finger's nail with her thumb's, she casually stared at her hand. This was until Mr. Contray grabbed one of Saneko's horns.

"GET YOURSELF AND YOUR FAKE HORNS OUT OF HERE!"

"Huh?"

Saneko didn't ever consider the idea that some people thought her horns were fake. She didn't even really think about them that much. He pulled on the horns, but of course, they wouldn't come off no matter how hard he tried. He grunted with gritted teeth as he continued to pull.

"Pull all you want. They are real."

"SHUT UP!"

"Very unprofessional I must say."

He was essentially screaming as he pulled on her horns. He pulled so hard, but his hands slipped and the force caused him to fall backwards. Saneko let out a stifled laugh, trying her hardest not to break her Demon Babe persona. Trying to regain his composure, Mr. Contray stood up rather quickly. He spoke again, but this time his voice was more resigned.

"Just leave Saneko. You have caused the best student in the school and the HRS teacher to break in just a matter of days. You are ruining the school and no one else can focus on anything thanks to you. I have never seen the full extent of your powers, but after seeing you on the news, I don't want to. All I want is for you to leave."

Saneko looked at Mr. Contray who seemed so defeated. She couldn't let this happen. Not because she felt bad, but because she didn't get to fully live out her fantasy of being the coolest. She had a taste of it and didn't want it to end yet. Sure, she had a country now, but she specifically wanted to show off to those in her school, as it reminded her of one of her favorite shows, 'The Strongest At Sino Magic Academy'.

"Dammit dammit dammit! Maybe I went to far. But how do I get out of this without getting expelled?"

Saneko had to come up with an idea. She used Color Spectrum to turn her eyes blue, and just then, she paused time. She wanted to give herself an indefinite amount of time to think these things over.

"What just happened to the mortal realm?"

Chrona and Kray sat at their table, looking at the holographic projection of the mortal realm.

"Well Kray, I think time just stopped there."

"BUT HOW?"

Chrona turned to Kray with an "are you serious?" look on her face. Kray, seeing her expression, started to feel dumb, remembering who they were watching.

"Hehe~ oh yeah."

"Welp. This is unexpected."

"What about K1? The knight we sent down not too long ago?"

"He's from our world, not bound by the laws of the worlds below. No cultivation magic, no matter how strong, could effect the hierarchy on such a level. Each world functions with its own set of rules as they are entirely separate spaces separated by unsurpassable dimensional walls. Our rules are far greater than the rules of the mortal realm. Simply put, K1 can't be frozen by a lower world ability"

Kray put his fingers up to the hologram and started to zoom in on it after hearing her words.

"Then why is he frozen too?"

"WHAT?"

Chrona looked intently at the hologram. She shook her head and rubbed her eyes, just to make sure that what she was seeing was true. Sure enough, it was true.

Saneko continued to think to herself about the serious questions that plagued her mind.

"I mean how can it be wet if it wets things? And oh yeah, how the hell am I going to fix this situation?"

She looked up to the ceiling, continuing to think about different possible ways.

"I guess I could reverse time, but everyone finally recognizes my power. That's an unacceptable decision!"

Looking back down, she saw Mr. Contray, frozen in time, yet still looking extremely hurt. Her mind then wandered to Chloe and Mrs. Gaud. She definitely wanted people to know her powers, but they already got a glimpse of that thanks to Dying Star, so maybe she went a little too far the other day. With a sigh, she used her blue eyes to begrudgingly reverse time just a bit.

Returning to the moment when Mrs. Gaud was checking in on Mark to see if he had passed out, Saneko stared at Mark. She really wanted to continue going like she did before, but she remembered the outcome that would happen if she did. She put her hands in her pockets and began walking away. The gravitational pull around Mark stopped. He coughed a bit and tried to get up, looking at Saneko walking away.

"Wait! This isn't over yet!"

"It is."

With that Saneko teleported away as she had already shown off that power. The students were left shocked at the sudden disappearance. Saneko still showed off her powers enough to get people to process her strength, but she didn't go as far as she did before.

Mrs. Gaud turned back to Mark, making sure he wasn't hurt.

"Did she actually do something to you?"

"... Yeah."

In the third world above, Kray and Chrona were at a loss for words. Kray pointed at the hologram in disbelief.

"DID SHE REALLY JUST DO THAT?"

"I can't believe it but I do think she actually did."

"Wait, does that mean K1 was also reversed?"

"Yeah, probably."

"So was he sent back here or what?"

"I don't know. He should be immune to any physical attack from the mortal realm, but this was something none of us could have expected. He was probably sent to a state of both existing and not existing."

"That sounds brutal!"

"Yeah. I don't know how a being like this girl can even exist."

"So... do we send another knight."

Chrona thought about the question. She did not expect Saneko to be able to defeat K1 without even knowing of its existence. Even so, sending another knight down was probably their best bet.

"Yeah. I think we should."

The two continued staring at the hologram, wondering if sending another knight would even do anything.

As the sun set later that day, Saneko was on a swing at a nearby playground, sitting next to her disciple. She was drinking a banana smoothie with one hand while keeping her other hand on the chain of the swing.

"So what did you do today Demon Babe?"

"Your great master has just saved the day. You see, I reversed a very serious time paradox. If I didn't do it, the world would have been plunged into chaos."

"WOW! YOU ARE SO AMAZING AS ALWAYS!"

The boy's eyes sparkled with adoration. He was very easily influenced, but so was Saneko considering she got all of her personality traits from anime.

"Haha! Of course I am little one."

Saneko naturally would never tell him that the great disaster would have just been her being expelled. That didn't seem cool.
