Chapter 48

Saneko stepped out of the ice cream shop with a content smile on her lips as she unsurprisingly sipped on a banana smoothie. The cold drink, with its sweet flavor, never ceased to bring Saneko pure happiness. She savored each sip, because for her, every single sip of the smoothie was as good as the last.

"Ah, absolutely nothing can even come close to this!"

Her eyes were half closed as she began walking back to her house. As she strolled down the sidewalk with the straw in her mouth, her mind drifted to a particular power fantasy anime she had heard was coming out. It was actually an adaptation of one of the light novels she had just bought recently. The timing was pretty good.

"EEEEH! I can't wait for 'Stop Fighting Me, I'm Immortal!' to come out! There aren't many series where the main character is an immortal detective that goes around solving crimes with ease. I guess that just goes to show how brilliant it is."

She was lost in her thoughts about the anime, but something interesting caught her eye. She had just finished the smoothie and tossed the cup aside, not really caring that she was littering. She narrowed her eyes as she saw a man in his mid-twenties walking down the street, minding his own business, not saying anything. Normally, something so ordinary would never catch her attention, but this was different somehow. The man was far too ordinary. Almost as ordinary as a self-insert protagonist in an isekai anime.

Her eyes followed the man, until he did something strange. He walked down a dark alleyway. Surely someone so ordinary would never do anything like that. Walking into an alleyway? No, that is far too unordinary. No one does that.

"What do we have here? Maybe I am destined to be a detective protagonist just like in that light novel after all. I guess I should go check."

Saneko walked over to the alleyway, only for her eyes to widen as she saw a multitude of injured men in masks on the ground, all bleeding and groaning in pain. One reached out his arm and muttered something.

"Help us..."

Saneko looked up to see that the man was nowhere to be found here. She gritted her teeth as she thought about what this man could have possibly done.

"This isn't good..."

Saneko walked right past the guy who was begging for help. She absolutely did not care about that. Her mind was on other things.

"Dammit! That guy could have very well been an actual cool person! Not as cool as me of course, but that's neither here nor there."

The guy on the floor let out another groan before collapsing, unconscious. Saneko walked to the end of the alleyway, only to be met with a big brick wall. The man couldn't have just exited from the other side. Maybe he really was an isekai protagonist in the real world. Well, that would imply he was from another world to begin with, but it was still plausible.

"I really hope this guy isn't just a boring cultivator like everyone else..."

Closing her eyes, Saneko used clairvoyance to find him, and she easily spotted him walking down another street not to far away with his hands in his pockets, as if nothing had happened. Saneko immediately thought that the man was trying to act cool.

"WHAT THE HELL? HE THINKS HE'S ALL THAT! WELL I'LL SHOW HIM!

Saneko didn't even care about her mother's rules at this point. She teleported right in front of him, not even bothering to put on a smug expression. She just looked pissed. The man took a few steps back as he gasped.

"Holy crap! You... you just teleported. Who are you?"

"That's what I should be asking you!"

Saneko took another step further, startling the man. Ironically, she was much more menacing when she wasn't putting on a show.

"Are you an alien? A time traveler? Or perhaps, an isek... *ahem* a person from another world?"

The man's eyes darted away as he stuttered, trying to come up with an explanation.

"I... I have no clue what you're talking about young lady."

Saneko's eyes flashed with rage as she lifted up her right hand. It automatically started glowing with the purplish Peacemaker flame.

"You know what I'm talking about now? You are standing before the great Demon Babe after all, so I suggest you speak truth."

There was no helping it. She had to mention how she was Demon Babe eventually. The name, despite being ridiculous, was pretty infamous by now, so the man instantly recognized the name.

"No way! The queen of Dying Star!"

"And the strongest person to ever live! Now answer my question or I will seal you within eternal darkness."

The man didn't even know what that was supposed to mean, but he was horrified either way. He put his arms up, trying to protect himself.

"NO PLEASE! I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG! THOSE GUYS WERE ROBBERS AND I WAS JUST DEFENDING MYSELF!"

"I couldn't care less about that. They could have been hyperglycemic orphans for all I care. I am simply asking you who you are, so speak!"

The man took a few deep breaths and reached into his pocket, throwing his credit card into the sky. Saneko looked up, her face filled with confusion as he did this seemingly random act.

"What the..."

"I didn't want to do this. I'm just defending myself!"

"What are you even-"

Suddenly, the card started to zoom towards Saneko at speeds far faster than light. It ripped the fabric of time apart with its speed alone, but Saneko was still able to comprehend this in slow motion.

"Hm? It's like a boomerang or something?

She reached out her arm and grabbed the credit card as it collided against her hand. The shockwave created from the force of the credit card parted, not only all of the clouds, but washed away the light of a galaxies worth of stars.

The man's mouth dropped when he saw that Saneko just caught it like it was nothing.

"W... WHAT?"

Saneko couldn't help but put on one of her usual smirks.

"Ha! You try to kill me do you? Well, I'll return the favor then."

She started reaching her flaming hand out.

"NO PLEASE! I'M BEGGING YOU!"

He fell to his knees and started begging for her to spare him. Saneko's expression darkened. She almost felt bad for him due to how pitiful he looked right now. She facepalmed and shook her head as she thought to herself.

"This guy is NOT an isekai protagonist."

Her flame disappeared as she sighed and looked back up at him.

"Just tell me who you are and I'll spare your pathetic life."

"I really am a normal person!"

"Okay, well I guess it's time to die!"

"NO! OKAY, I'LL TELL YOU!"

"Alright then. Do so now!"

The man sighed as tears pricked at the corners of his eyes.

"I am a normal person, but my credit card... it's alive."

Saneko had a deadpan expression on her face despite herself.

"Huh?"

She looked down at the credit card and realized that it had eyes that gave off a scared expression, but it didn't seem like it was able to speak.

"I'm lost..."

The man closed his eyes, trying his best not to cry from the overwhelming fear he was feeling. He tried his best to explain the situation to the best of his ability.

"Apparently every action we make creates a parallel universe, and it's not unheard of for people who die to be sent to other universes as a reincarnated object. It is really rare though, and this is most likely the first time it's happened in centuries."

Saneko's eyes lit up with excitement. She did not care about acting superior when this man just confirmed everything she ever wanted to know.

"ISEKAI ARE REAL!!!!!"

"W... what did you say?"

"THIS IS SO COOL! So, it's like a ghost credit card? Can it possess other cards too? Oh! Can it hack ATMs and give people free money?"

The man flinched again, not understanding what was happening at all. Saneko's personality did a whole 180.

"I mean... probably. I just use it for self defense."

"Wimp! I'm taking this now. It deserves to be in the hands of someone worthy."

"No please! I really need it. I attract so much danger for some reason, and I'm too weak to defend myself with my own strength!"

"Oh please. I'm sure it can't be that bad."

"No really it is!"

The man tried to stand up to explain himself, but as he did so, he tripped on a banana peel that just so happened to be there. Saneko tilted her head as the man fell face-first to the concrete.

"I'm pretty sure that banana peel wasn't there earlier."

The man rubbed his face in pain and stood up, looking both scared and embarrassed.

"See, it's not just trouble from robbers and muggers. I just have really bad luck in general."

"Ugh, why does this have to be wasted on you."

Saneko then thought about something. In some power fantasy anime, weak characters would wield a weapon that made them unbeatable. In fact, she remembered that some of those weapons just so happened to be people reincarnated into it. She immediately handed it back to him with a smile on her face.

"Take it. You deserve it."

"Huh? Why did you change your mind so quickly?"

"NEVER QUESTION THE GREAT DEMON BABE!"

The way her personality was switching constantly really threw the man off, but he had no choice but to show his gratitude.

"Well, thank you... I guess."

Saneko crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes.

"Name?"

"Huh?"

"Name? Don't make me repeat myself again."

"Oh, my name is Ian..."

"NOT YOU! THE NAME OF THE CARD!"

The man scratched the back of his head, not understanding this girl at all.

"Ah, of course. It can't talk, but I call it Cardy."

"How original."

Saneko sighed and waved him off as she started walking away. She was trying to pretend not to be excited, not realizing that she already gushed about how cool the whole situation was.

"Whatever, I shall get going."

"But wait! If there are cultivators as strong as you... maybe my card won't be enough. What if someone stronger attacks me? I'll surely die."

Saneko stopped in her tracks and started laughing out loud, as arrogant as ever. The man furrowed his eyebrows, not knowing what was going on.

"There isn't anyone stronger than me. That's a fact. An objective truth. As all things under the heavens-"

Suddenly, the boy that had become Saneko's disciple randomly found her like he always did.

"DEMON BABE!"

"NOT RIGHT NOW!"

The boy stopped and started tearing up. His lips quivered in sadness.

"I... I'm so sorry Demon Babe! I didn't mean to upset you!"

Saneko was just in the heat of the moment and didn't really mean to yell at him. She started panicking. Of course, not because she really cared about the boy's feelings all too much, but mainly because he may stop worshipping her. She ran up to him and patted him on the back.

"Ah, I was simply testing you. A disciple of Demon Babe must always show remorse. You have passed the test."

"So... I didn't really upset you?"

"Of course not."

The boy wiped his eyes and a small smile started to form on his face.

"Okay. I was worried. I just wanted to show you more magic I learned."

"Ah, go ahead!"

Ian watched the two talk and he looked down at Cardy.

"... I'm more scared than I have ever been in my life..."

Saneko looked back over at Ian and thought to herself as her disciple started to conjure up his magic.

"It is simply disgraceful. Such a powerful item, in the hands of a man who can't even stand up without getting hurt."

Saneko walked over to him, her eyes turning white. Ian automatically thought Saneko was going to kill her, so he closed his eyes and felt a shiver go down his spine.

"NO PLEASE!"

Saneko touched his head, and then her eyes returned to normal. She walked back up to her disciple, not explaining a thing. Ian just stood there, not knowing what to make of what had just happened.

"Did... did she curse me or something?"

It was quite the opposite. While Color Spectrum Black could curse people in any way, Color Spectrum White could remove such curses. She had just removed the curse of bad luck away from him because she felt that he had enough potential to be overpowered if he wasn't so unlucky.
